Make a gorgeous mosaic mirror with local maker Jacky Cox from Mossy Mosaic. 

You will learn how to safely cut reclaimed china using a wheeled nipper. 

Applying a 'crazy paving' method you'll form your pieces into a creation to be proud of! 

There will be lots of lovely china for you to choose from, or you can bring your own special (perhaps broken) cups, saucers or plates to use in your mirror design. 

Jacky will guide you through every stage of the process, including how to grout your finished piece. 

If you have previously attended one of Jacky's workshops and are confident using a wheeled nipper you may decide to be more adventurous in your cutting technique: additional guidance will be provided for anyone at an intermediate level.

On this, 3 hour or 5 hour introduction to macram&eacute; workshop with Edinburgh artist Lucy Wayman, you get the opportunity to work on longer projects.&nbsp;You can choose to create a plant or pot hanger, or stay on to work on a more larger macram&eacute; project, such as a double plant hanger, wall hanging or bag.&nbsp;
The workshop will start with the basic principles and techniques of macram&eacute;, allowing you to build your confidence by creating small projects such as a key ring, before moving on to designing and creating your plant hanger, bespoke wall hanging, or bag.
Once you feel more confident, you will learn how to calculate rope lengths and plan designs to create your chosen hand-crafted macram&eacute; project&nbsp;using 100% cotton rope and a selection of coloured twines. A helpful instruction manual will be provided to guide you through your project.If you opt for the plant hanger project your workshop will finish after 3 hours. The longer wall hanging and bag projects last for an extra 2 hours, i.e. a 5 hour workshop.
This three-in-one workshop gives extra time for people who feel confident with the basics to challenge themselves with more elaborate designs under Lucy&#39;s guidance.

Welcome to the fascinating alchemy that is wet felting.&nbsp; Starting with wool fibres in a wide range of colours we will create a piece of felt &ndash; which could be a picture or completely abstract. &nbsp;The finished fabric will be suitable to stitch into or just hang on the wall. &nbsp;
During the workshop you will learn all the skills you need to be a successful felter.&nbsp; You will choose the fibres, layer them in the right way and then wet the wool and encourage it to knit together.&nbsp; Once the initial wool tangling has been achieved it is then onto the felting proper, it does take a bit of energy on your part but is worth the effort.&nbsp;
You will take home a finished item at the end of the session and I will keep you motivated with tea and cake!&nbsp;
If you want to continue at home, I always have plenty of wool roving and felting tools in stock.

Description
Come and join Hannah at Stitching Kitchen for an introduction to the fascinating alchemy that is wet felting. Starting with wool fibres in a wide range of colours, you will have fun creating a piece of felt – which could be a picture or completely abstract. The finished fabric will be suitable to stitch into or ready to simply hang on the wall. 




What you will learn/achieve

The skills you need to be a successful felter
How to select the fibres, layer them in the right way and then wet the wool and encourage it to knit together
Once the initial wool tangling has been achieved, it is then onto the felting proper. Wet felting does take a bit of physical energy on your part but it is great fun and is worth the effort
You will take home a finished item at the end of the session

Join us in sunny Northumberland for an evening of ancient and exciting pottery!

Raku is an ancient Japanese technique of firing pots, where the pieces are removed from the kiln red-hot, before being rapidly cooled either with or without combustibles (such as wood shavings) and sometimes in a reduction chamber (limiting access to oxygen so that the glazes do weird, wonderful and unpredictable things). 

We will provide you with up to three biscuit fired forms, and following a brief introduction (and safety talk) you will glaze and fire the pots using our Raku Kiln. This firing technique comes with a good deal of drama and jeopardy, and means that unlike our usual firings, you should have a glazed pot to wow your friends in approximately twenty minutes! The firing will happen outside in all weathers, the glazing can be done indoors, so please bring suitable clothing. 

Raku firing is brilliant for celebrating the science and mystery of glazing. It gives potters a chance to embrace the chaos and violence of rapid firing and cooling, producing pots that are unique and individual, and usually stunning. Some pots can even be fired without glaze, and then combustible materials such as feathers or horse hair draped or dragged across the surface producing carbonised, smoky abstract designs. This is known as Naked Raku!

The number of participants for each workshop is limited to six, to allow equal access to support, tools and tuition. It is also vitally important that instructions and safety guidalines are strictly followed. Anyone under the age of 16 needs to be accompanied by a responsible adult for the duration of the workshop. 

A word of warning - the kiln Gods can be fickle, and despite doing everything possible, some pieces will fail, crack or blow up (!) in the kiln. There are no guarantees in pottery, not even for seasoned potters. A second word of warning - working with pottery can be hugely addictive. You have been warned!

The new Ford Studio is housed in the old Reading Rooms - you will find it just up the road from Lady Waterford Hall. This qualification is designed for learners aged pre-16 and above who wish to develop skills and knowledge in creative craft.

This course has been designed to be as affordable for families as possible.
Please note, this is not a GCSE but is a GCSE Level course which is why it is designed to span 2 years, although we offer complete flexibility on the timeframe that learners can complete within.
This qualification is a Level 2 Qualification and is Ofqual approved carrying 15 credits. Other examples of Level 2 qualifications are BTEC Level 2 and the Silver Arts Award. Feedback from our past learners shows that this qualiifcation is widely regarded as level to a grade A*-C/4-9 at GCSE standard when applying for college or work placements.
Please also note, that whether this course is recognised as a GCSE equivalent by colleges and further education establishments, can vary according to location, college and even between courses at the same college. If reliant on this qualification for entry onto another course, it is recommended that you establish with the college whether or not this will aid admission, before committing to the course.

We don't impose any minimum or maximum ages on our learners as we recognise that every learner is an individual and is on their own unique learning journey. We believe, that their adult facilitator is the best person to judge whether a learner is ready for a particular course, but to enable you to make this decision we provide a workbook, free for you to try.
