What to expect No matter your leather crafting dreams or goals, 1-2-1 tuition has you covered. Time: Sessions run from 10am - 4pm. There will be a light lunch served at midday and tea/ coffee breaks throughout. Location: Sessions can be run online or from the Workshop of Hands Of Tym in Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX16 9DH. Parking: Parking is available on the drive with easy access via the M40. Transport: Banbury train station is a 30 min walk. Trains run from both London Marylebone and Birmingham to Banbury in 50 minutes. We’re also well connected to Reading, Oxford, and Leamington Spa. What's included in the price? Following a varied career in Accessories design and development across many roles and international brands I set up Hands of Tym in 2016. The courses I offer are suitable for all, from experienced to total novice. Come along to learn something new, and design and make your own leather bag in a day.

Learn how to design and create your own river table.

This workshop is open to beginners as well as intermediate-level students, so you can take your time and learn at your own pace. You'll be guided through all the steps of making jewellery from scratch, so you'll leave feeling confident in your skills whatever level you work at. The week is designed around you and you needs and aims. We'll have everything on hand that you need, including the silver clay and tools. We even provide the accommodation and endless tea and coffee to keep you refreshed throughout the retreat. The week will be an immersive experience that helps you feel like part of our family here at Gifted Crafts.

The course is pefect for beginners and more advanced mosaic makers. A perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of mosaics. Learn how to make classic and contemporary mosaics on this six-day residential mosaic workshop in Greece using local stone and marble. The Lagou Raxi Hotel in the mountains of Pelion provides a wonderful backdrop for this relaxing, informative holiday in an unspoilt area of Greece. June 25 – July 2, 2022 Saturday Arrival of participants. Experienced students will meet in the studio to prepare their materials and substrates and to finalise their designs. Meet & Greet for the whole group. Short Introduction to the history of Ancient Greek and Roman mosaics and an overview of contemporary mosaics. Welcome Dinner at the hotel. Sunday Getting started. Discussion of the commonly used approaches to mosaic making with an overview of mosaic tools, materials and techniques. A look at the ‘classic’ mosaic rules and the fundamental skills needed to make a direct method mosaic including how to cut and lay the tesserae and design principles. Students work on a practice coaster. All students finalise their main design and prepare their substrates. Students start work on a 30cm by 30cm mosaic on Jackoboard which is suitable for indoor or outdoor hanging. Afternoon: visit to one of Pelion’s remote and beautiful beaches and Byzantine mosaic relics. Monday Students continue with their own pieces with Helen’s support and direction. Tuesday Students continue with their own pieces with Helen’s support and direction. Afternoon: As before and a PowerPoint presentation on the art of Andamento – the visual flow of the mosaic. Wednesday Students work at different paces so those who are ready may already have started on their second or even third piece. The other techniques covered during the week are mosaics on mesh and using found materials such as pebbles and shells with tile adhesive. Afternoon: As before and a PowerPoint presentation on Contemporary Mosaics. Thursday Students continue with their own pieces. Those who are ready will seal and grout their main mosaics. Demonstration of how to grout. Demonstration of how to apply a mesh mosaic to a fixed surface using tile adhesive. Afternoon: Excursion to visit some Pelion monasteries or other sites of interest. Friday All students finish their main piece and/or their extra mosaics and prepare for an informal exhibition of the week’s work in the studio. Exhibition, group photo and farewell dinner. Saturday Departure of participants, or a rest over the weekend*. * There is a possibility to continue using the studio, tools and materials unsupervised over the weekend for a small extra charge. In this workshop you will be making a luxury Xmas wreath, start by making a large  round base from freshly harvested willow you can then build your wreath using a combination of different greenery, dried oranges, lime, grapefruit, apple, star anise, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg, fir cones, juniper, holly, ivy and much more. Your wreath will smell and look fabulous. Festive snacks and a glass of mulled wine  included.

Within this day you will learn how to mould a part of your/your partners/ your childs body in a safe, non toxic, water based material called alginate. You will then learn how to make a cast from that mould using a sculpture plaster. Once the cast is removed from the mould you will learn how to 'fettle' the cast in other words make it perfect, then you'll have the option of adding a colour to the cast or mounting it on a stand. What you learn during the course can be used to cast your children's hands and feet when you're back at home, I can supply all the materials you need to do this. I've been running this type of workshop for 25 years so I'm very experienced in the process. I cast my own mothers hands about a year before she died and they are my most prized possessions as they have picked up so much detail

During this class we will explore the creation of abstract sculpture starting with the development of ideas, shapes and forms, then we will use some composite sculpture material to transfer your ideas from a sketch to a 3 dimensional work. The material we use is rigid but very easily worked with rasps and reduction paper so you'll quite quickly gain confidence in working with it. We will supply a dust mast if requred You don't need any prior experience in sculpture or a background in art to enjoy this course, I'll take you through all aspects of the creative process. At the end of the day you'll have a piece of work to take away but we will also have discussed how to take your original to the next stage which will be moulding and casting to re-produce it in a hard wearing material.
