WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS CLASS?
Come and learn the art of knotting a dreamcatcher. 
Dreamcatchers have evolved through the ages as more and more people became aware of them and fell in love with them. One of the evolutions was through Macrame. Macrame may seem daunting at first, it is however very easy to learn and adds that lovely boho feel to any space.

This workshop will teach you the basics of knotting and decorating macrame dreamcatchers and give you some time to reflect on the coming year/connect with other macrame dreamcatcher lovers or just give you that needed self-care time, with the aim of creating gorgeous pieces with a respect for their initial intentions in mind.

Have you ever made something truly from start to finish?&nbsp;
 Have you ever set out with nothing, and ended up with something tangible &amp; useful in your hands?
In this two day workshop you will learn the ancient craft of bark basketry. The techniques, methods and materials you&rsquo;ll use have changed very little since pre-historic times.
We will cover
Day 1&nbsp; - The history of bark usage&nbsp; - Understanding trees &amp; bark - Identification of suitable trees - How to harvest bark&nbsp; - How to store bark - Case study; Native Americans &amp; Wester Red Cedar
Each student will harvest their own bark ready for the following day
Day 2 - How to prepare and use bark for baskets - Barks strengths and weaknesses&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; 
Each student will create their own basket using a combination of bark they have harvested, and some harvested &amp; supplied by Fazey Woodcraft.
We will be making folded bark baskets, similar to the one shown in the workshop image. These are based on a pre-historic Native American design, called a 'Makuk'.

Each student will also learn basic carving and green-woodworking techniques for making the rim &amp; handle of the basket.
As with all woodcraft &amp; bushcraft activities, the most important elements are identification &amp; respect. Tree identification, respectful harvesting and general woodland knowledge will permeate the days learning.

If you new to sewing or just want some tuition to improve your techniques or learn to read and follow a pattern this is the dressmaking workshop for you!
During the one day workshop we will make an easy fitting tunic top or over the knee length dress using the Tilly and the Buttons &lsquo;Stevie&rsquo; pattern (included in the ticket).&nbsp; Helen&nbsp;will teach you how to choose the right size for you, how to prepare the fabric and pattern to be set up for success.&nbsp; You can choose to create this design as a top or dress.&nbsp;
We have Pfaff sewing machines in the studio for you to use to construct your top or dress. &nbsp; You are welcome to bring your own machine if you prefer. &nbsp;Help is available all day as you create your garment.

Are you new to sewing or looking to improve your skills? This dressmaking workshop is perfect for beginners or those wanting to refine their techniques, including learning to read and follow a pattern. 

During the session, you will create an easy-fitting tunic top or knee-length dress using the Tilly and the Buttons ‘Stevie’ pattern (included in your ticket). You can choose to make either the top or dress version.

Hannah has been crafting since she was a child, she loves textile art, making with fabric, thread and fibre. She teaches and shares her passion and skills in textile art, felt making and also dressmaking and quilting.

Philippa Sitters has worked in literary agencies since 2012, spending 10 years at David Godwin Associates. She has recently launched her own agency, PSA Ltd where she represents authors in both non-fiction and fiction across the literary-commercial spectrum. Her authors are prize winners and those whose books have been optioned for tv and film, from journalists to actors, lawyers to martial artists, her list is extremely varied and she wouldn't have it any other way. 

In fiction Philippa would like to see big stories, whether that's a commercial rom-com or a literary inter-generational bildungsroman. She loves character-driven novels, authentic voices in richly-drawn locations. 

On the non-fiction side, Philippa would love to find unique narratives from experts in their field, beautiful memoirs from those who've lived an extraordinary life, histories, science explorations, or ecological deep dives.

We are excited to have the immensely talented mixed-media textile artist Linda Harvey join us for our April Tea 'N Chat event. With over 25 years of experience in both teaching and creating, Linda brings a deep well of knowledge and a true passion for her craft. As the Head of Textiles at Archbishop Holgate's School in York and a dedicated member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work, Linda's commitment to her art is truly inspiring.
Linda’s artwork is a mesmerizing fusion of rustic textures and innovative techniques. Drawing inspiration from her travels, she transforms photographs into expressive, abstract textile creations. Her work beautifully reflects her love for color and texture, incorporating elements such as hand-felted backgrounds, free-motion embroidery, intricate layering, and rust dyeing.

LINDA HARVEY  Textile Artist and Head of Textiles at Archbishop Colgate School, York

Linda studied Textiles and Surface Design at University Centre Somerset, graduating in 1994. She is a textile artist and Head of Textiles at a York secondary school and a member of York Textile Artists and The Society for Embroidered Work, which promotes and supports the best in stitched art worldwide.
The inspiration for her work mainly comes from the places she visits, taking photographs of anything that catches her eye. These photographs give a starting point from which her work evolves, often working on several pieces at a time, as she enjoys an expressive and experimental way of working.
Linda is inspired by rustic textures and the ageing process, drawn to anything corroded and tarnished and immediately seeing how it can be turned into a textile art piece. Colour and texture are the key elements in her work.



The Textiles Skills Centre Associates are a team of volunteers that manage the social media platforms and website, and offer support, mentorship and advice to textile teachers and trainees. We organise free resource networking events each month (Tea 'N Chat) and are always on hand to help and encourage when needed.

Understand the acceptable variations within the normal ECG of healthy adults.
Recognise the expected patterns of an ECG from a healthy child from birth onwards and identify abnormalities.
Interpret abnormal ECG patterns in adults.
Diagnose arrhythmias as an underlying cause of palpitations and syncope. Exploring sinus rhythm, extrasystoles, paroxysmal tachycardia and the importance of a physical examination.
Identifying syncopal episodes attributable to cardiovascular disease as opposed to arrhythmias.
Recognise ECG markers for tachycardias, bradycardias, pre-excitation syndromes, bi-fascicular block, and first-degree block with bundle branch block.
Differentiate between supraventricular and ventricular extrasystoles and be able to diagnose broad complex tachycardias, ventricular flutter and fibrillation, sick sinus syndrome, and Stokes-Adams attacks.
Recognise and identify symptoms associated with the causes of acute or chronic chest pain in patients who present with myocardial infarction (heart attack), pulmonary embolism, significant central pulmonary embolism, pericarditis, aortic dissection, oesophageal rupture, spinal disorders, vertebral collapse, posterior infarction, and angina.
Recognise symptoms indicative of conditions such as pulmonary oedema, chest diseases, and pulmonary congestion.

Safely and competently set up an ECG machine
Introduce patients to the ECG test, adhering to compliancy requirements before and after testing
Perform an ECG test to national guidelines
Understand basic traces and their correlation to cardiac issues

Appreciate normal and abnormal ECG variations in the context of varying pathologies.
