On my first visit it was clear that Shorin is a welcoming and supportive school. Part way through my trial month I can see that the potential for growth is vast and the support along the way will be unrelenting. I am now 9 months in and the support has grown as more members have returned to attending. With people at different levels and coming from different disciplines there is always something to learn from everyone.

Welcoming and supportive. As an older student, who hasn’t done karate before and wanted to do something different for my fitness and to learn new skills, I’m so glad I found this club. I couldn’t have asked for anything more and would thoroughly recommend anyone come along and give it a go.

A great Dojo with a fantastic club spirit! which I am proud to be part of. The training is both physical and mental. A traditional style with a proud history and Lineage, that is followed passionately with the intention of improving our own karate and helping to preserve traditional Okinawan karate. Highly recommended.

I've done a couple of different styles over the years and was drawn to the Shorin Bristol club because of the chance to learn an authentic Okinawan martial art, not just going through the belts but learning the history of the style and its teachers. The students are friendly and welcoming, and Joel Sensei is a fantastic teacher. Everyone's happy to share their knowledge, explain the techniques and demonstrate them in a practical way. It's always a pleasure to train, I'd thoroughly recommend 😀

I may be slightly biased as I have known Castasus Sensei for a few years now BUT I can easily say he is, without doubt, one of the best teachers of genuine Okinawan karate in England. He regularly travels back to Okinawa - the spiritual birthplace of karate - and diligently trains under the most senior teachers of Matsubayashi-ryu in the world. The dojo that he has established in Bristol is full of devoted, loyal and like-minded people who are always willing to listen and learn in an effort...
