About Moscow School for the Social and Economic Sciences
The Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (Shaninka) is a non-state university founded in 1995 by Teodor Shanin, a renowned sociologist, peasant studies researcher, historian, and professor at the University of Manchester. The School’s strategic goals are to combine the best practices in Russian and international higher education, to bring the academic approach back to the higher education system, to support and develop social sciences and humanities as well as the fundamental education, and to provide maximum access to educational programmes for the residents of Russia and the post-Soviet states.
