Course Overview:
The "An Understanding of Catheter Care" course offers participants a comprehensive understanding of catheters, their types, uses, and the essential skills needed to provide effective care for individuals with catheters. This course is designed for healthcare professionals, caregivers, and individuals seeking to enhance their knowledge in catheter care to ensure the comfort, hygiene, and well-being of patients who require catheterisation.

Course Content:
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Minimise the risk of infection
2. Professional, legal, policy and ethical issues relevant to urinary catheter care
3. Aseptic no touch technique and a “closed” system
4. Catheter care and troubleshooting
5. Care planning and recording requirements
This course does NOT include catheterisation / catheter insertion.
Course Objectives:
1. Comprehend Catheter Care: Develop a comprehensive understanding of urinary catheterisation, its indications, and the importance of proper care.
2. Perform Catheter Insertion and Removal: Learn the principles of aseptic technique and safe practices for catheter insertion and removal.
3. Provide Maintenance and Hygiene: Acquire skills in maintaining catheter hygiene, securing catheters, and preventing infections.
4. Educate Patients and Caregivers: Develop effective communication skills to educate patients, caregivers, and family members about catheter care and potential complications.

Assessment:
Participants' understanding of catheter care principles and practical skills will be assessed through quizzes, practical exercises, and discussions during the course.
