Emma Broughton of Fairy Wren Embroidery, Graduate of The Royal School of Needlework and Author of 'Embroidered Boxes' is delighted to offer you this exciting class to learn the basics of Goldwork Embroidery working her lovely Strawberry design.
You will learn how to:
Prepare the fabric
Felt padding
Couching with Japanese thread
Stitching Pearl purl
Chipping with bright check
Materials included in kit* (This is included in the course price so no surprise costs on the day)
Fabric and thread colour can be chosen on the day
Fabric (Red or Blue)
Calico
Felt (Yellow for Gold, White for Silver)
Gutermann thread (No. 415 for Gold, No. 8 for Silver)
Gutermann Extra strong thread (Buttonhole thread)

I will have some equipment available to borrow or purchase on the day of the class. Please be aware that some items I may not have enough for each student, with the exception of ring frame supports.
Embroidery scissors (From £5)
Goldwork Scissors (From £5)
(not essential but Goldwork threads can blunt scissors, therefore it is recommended to have a separate pair)
Ring Frame support (£25), a 5” Ring frame is included in the price. I will have a variety of supports available to borrow or buy on the day to use with the frame supplied. You can bring your own if you have one, but the frame should be no bigger than 6” for the fabric to fit. (It is always recommended to have a hands-free frame so you can use both hands)
Mellor (£12) (Not essential but a very useful tool)
Thimble
Velvet board, padded beading tray or an off cut of velvet
Magnifying Glass
Needle Threader
Fabric pen/pencil, which is friction removable, I prefer the Sew line Pencils.
About the VenueThere is no parking at the Mill but the central car park is a few minutes walk from the Mill and always has plenty of spaces available (Pay and display or by App). For Those wishing to travel by train, Salisbury train station is also only a few mins walk from the Mill.The Mill has a very popular restaurant on site and offer 10% discount to participants to use in the cafe on the day of the workshop for refreshments. Refreshments available at the on site cafe or please bring your own lunch.
For insurance reasons anyone over the age of 18 is very welcome.
