Ron Bell was born and bred in Manchester, but spent much of his life in the
Reading/Oxford area, working as a scientific computing specialist. He retired to
Scotland in 2007 – mainly so that he could continue to climb Scottish hills
without risking his life on the M6 – and has lived happily near Melrose, in the
Scottish Borders ever since. He became a photographic judge whilst still living
in England and continued under the auspices of the Scottish Photographic
Federation from 2009. He achieved LRPS in 2010, and is a past Chairman of
Galashiels Camera Club and, currently, their External Competition Secretary.
Ron's other passion in life, besides photography, is climbing Scottish hills. He
has completed all of the Munros (including the Tops and Furths) on his 60th
birthday whilst still living Down South, and completed the Corbetts on his 70th.
Ron is currently working on the Grahams and Donalds to complete all 1094 hills
in the Scotttish Mountaineering Club’s “Full House”. He has a mere 33 left to do
– but is in a race against old age
