Blue Jelly Moon’s mission is to rescue beautiful china from being hidden away in lofts, cupboards, boxes and other hiding places and bringing them back to being admired with a modern twist. What started as a way to pass some time, has now become time I spend totally absorbed and at peace, I find I can just switch off my brain and let creativity flow. I have met some wonderful people at craft fairs and love seeing the surprise on their face, when they realise the pieces they are admiring, are made from previously loved, chipped or broken china. I still get a thrill from reading the wonderful feedback, from people who enjoy receiving their pieces through the post, whether it be for themselves or as a present for a friend or a loved one. After several requests for workshops I spent a great deal of time creating a fun and relaxed class so others may gain the benefits of such a wonderful craft, I now get to enjoy watching small groups of friends or sometimes complete strangers, get together and allow themselves to become absorbed and join me, as we help old, forgotten, but loved china come back to life. Maybe you would like to join me one day at a workshop, or maybe you can just help the cause by purchasing one of the many lovingly, handmade pieces you find here on the website or at one of the craft fairs I attend.

Debra works with the mediums of Mosaic, alongside painting and drawing. She graduated in Fine Art from Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford University some years ago. She recently completed a Diploma in Mosaic Studies at the London School of Mosaic where she spent time refreshing her knowledge of the mosaic process with its roots in antiquity, and grounded herself in the Roman and Byzantine styles of mosaic making. She is currently exploring contemporary methods, techniques and modern approaches to themes from the past. Further to her personal practice in mosaic making and painting and drawing, she is also keen to teach and pass on these traditional skills through workshops and art lecturing, currently with WEA and occasionaly at the British Museum. Passionate about all things floral and handcrafted Since I can remember, I have always loved flowers. My earliest memories are of helping my Grandmother in her potting shed with her African Violets. The most treasured are walking amongst her beautiful Rose Garden with it's heady scents and gorgeous blooms. Those memories combine together with the privilege of being a daughter of a Artisan Jeweler. I would often sit with my Father in his workshop and loved watching the process, from start to finish. From drawing the design to moulding the piece from the bare elements to creating something truly beautiful with his hands. From this, I have developed the utmost respect for handmade articles and as such it is my joy to create, teach and inspire Floristry, arts and crafts related pieces in a relaxed and informal way Everyone is welcome no matter the skill level from novice to advanced. With a little direction and encouragement each student is often very pleased and most certainly proud of their achievement🤩

Six Day Residential Mosaic Workshop in Greece

The course is pefect for beginners and more advanced mosaic makers. A perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of mosaics. Learn how to make classic and contemporary mosaics on this six-day residential mosaic workshop in Greece using local stone and marble. The Lagou Raxi Hotel in the mountains of Pelion provides a wonderful backdrop for this relaxing, informative holiday in an unspoilt area of Greece. June 25 – July 2, 2022 Saturday Arrival of participants. Experienced students will meet in the studio to prepare their materials and substrates and to finalise their designs. Meet & Greet for the whole group. Short Introduction to the history of Ancient Greek and Roman mosaics and an overview of contemporary mosaics. Welcome Dinner at the hotel. Sunday Getting started. Discussion of the commonly used approaches to mosaic making with an overview of mosaic tools, materials and techniques. A look at the ‘classic’ mosaic rules and the fundamental skills needed to make a direct method mosaic including how to cut and lay the tesserae and design principles. Students work on a practice coaster. All students finalise their main design and prepare their substrates. Students start work on a 30cm by 30cm mosaic on Jackoboard which is suitable for indoor or outdoor hanging. Afternoon: visit to one of Pelion’s remote and beautiful beaches and Byzantine mosaic relics. Monday Students continue with their own pieces with Helen’s support and direction. Tuesday Students continue with their own pieces with Helen’s support and direction. Afternoon: As before and a PowerPoint presentation on the art of Andamento – the visual flow of the mosaic. Wednesday Students work at different paces so those who are ready may already have started on their second or even third piece. The other techniques covered during the week are mosaics on mesh and using found materials such as pebbles and shells with tile adhesive. Afternoon: As before and a PowerPoint presentation on Contemporary Mosaics. Thursday Students continue with their own pieces. Those who are ready will seal and grout their main mosaics. Demonstration of how to grout. Demonstration of how to apply a mesh mosaic to a fixed surface using tile adhesive. Afternoon: Excursion to visit some Pelion monasteries or other sites of interest. Friday All students finish their main piece and/or their extra mosaics and prepare for an informal exhibition of the week’s work in the studio. Exhibition, group photo and farewell dinner. Saturday Departure of participants, or a rest over the weekend*. * There is a possibility to continue using the studio, tools and materials unsupervised over the weekend for a small extra charge. Beginner’s Mosaics

This mosaic workshop for adult beginners is led by Lindsey, who has worked in 3 and 2D design, along with many years experience of teaching art, design and mosaics. During this one day workshop you will learn how to apply a range of tiles using the direct method onto an MDF or plywood base. There will be a large collection of tile material to choose from and you don’t need any previous design or craft experience. You will learn how to create a colourful mosaic design, use tile nippers safely and learn how to apply tiles to a backing board. There will be a choice of bases to work on. The aim is to explore this fascinating craft in a relaxed and friendly environment.
