Based in the Borders town of Peebles, surrounded by beautiful countryside, Rosetta Early Learners provides quality early learning and childcare for children from 2.5 years of age until starting primary school. Rosetta is a small, friendly setting where learning through play and working in partnership with families and the wider community are central to its ethos. The dedicated team of experienced staff and volunteers ensure a high adult to child ratio and we welcome parents and families to get involved and be part of the Rosetta experience. In addition to our nursery playroom and garden area we have access to the grounds of the adjoining primary school and nearby areas of green space and woodland. We work in partnership with Scottish Borders Council (SBC) to provide funded Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) sessions for children from the term after their third birthday. We also provide parent funded sessions for children from 2.5 years of age. We are open term time and the term dates follow those of the local schools with occasional minor changes to allow for staff training.

Vicky Ringer is a Specialist Dyslexia Teacher and an Assessor of children with Specific Learning Difficulties. She has a Post Graduate Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties. She is a member of the British Dyslexia Assocation and holds a practising certificate. Vicky has 12 years experience of teaching both mainstream and special educational needs. She decided to specialise in dyslexia after teaching lots of children within the mainstream classroom who displayed good understanding verbally but struggled to write down their ideas, found it difficult to remember ideas and were often disorganised. She saw how having a diagnosis of dyslexia and being taught in a dyslexia friendly way, could raise a child’s self-esteem and self-belief that they can achieve in the world. Vicky understands how difficult school can be for dyslexic students and is committed to helping them realise their potential through having a dyslexia assessment and through recommending appropriate strategies of intervention. She understands the concern and frustration parents often feel if their child is underachieving and works carefully to assess and recognise the child’s difficulties.

The academy works by matching the skills and experience of candidates with the jobs available to get people quickly into roles. The roles on offer are varied and include jobs in residential, nursing and supported living care settings as well as roles providing care and support to people in their own homes. There are currently a variety of permanent, temporary, full-time and part-time positions available ranging from care assistants and support workers to home care workers and shared lives carers. The jobs available do vary and can also include cooks and catering assistants, cleaners and office/administration assistants. People are matched to roles that suit their skills and interests through a discussion on the phone. Where necessary, full training is given (predominantly online at the moment) and support is provided throughout.
