THRE - Third Sector Human Rights & Equalities

thre - third sector human rights & equalities

THRE – Third Sector Human Rights and Equalities, is a nationwide project led by GCVS in partnership with HTSI and EVOC The project is working with Scotland’s Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs) to develop resources, training and networks to support third sector organisations towards taking a human rights and equalities first approach to their organisational development and delivery. THRE will also be working to give organisations and individuals the skills to become human rights and equalities champions, allowing the sector as a whole to better challenge inequalities and make a positive difference. THRE aims to act as a bridge connecting Scotland’s innovative and thriving third sector to the country’s existing internationally recognised human rights and equalities sector and help to deliver the Scottish Government’s vision for a Scotland that is inclusive, free from discrimination, and where the human rights of everyone are respected, protected, and fulfilled. Staff are based in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Highlands to work with their local TSIs to give the project national reach combined with a local understanding of the needs of the third sector across Scotland. THRE is funded by The Scottish Government Equality and Human Rights Fund which is managed by Inspiring Scotland. As a freelance 'cello teacher I have many years of teaching experience from teaching in both the state and private sector. I have also work for Music Services, involving individual and group tuition, at junior and senior levels.  I try and use many of the pedagogical ideas of the ‘Kodaly System’, especially when teaching beginners, with its emphasis on singing,  musical games, rhythm and with the introduction of music-reading, fluency in the musical alphabet. Other areas of my work in education have always included close involvement in the production of lecture-recitals and demonstration workshops, mostly with the Astaria String Quartet, the Foundation for Music in Hospitals or in the past, Live Music Now! I have presented workshops and lecture-recitals for Arts Alive, Birmingham University, the City of Edinburgh Music School and the Education Department at Symphony Hall Birmingham, often to National Curriculum and National Lottery specifications. During the summer months, I have been a regular tutor on the 'Fantasia Music School' music course for many years. I have also researched authentic performance-practice and contemporary (classical) music, through both commissions and subsequent performances. This has led to intensive collaboration with eminent composers as well as time spent coaching student composers, giving me valuable insight into the creative process of compositions and the interpretive and technical difficulties for the performer. My own personal interest and inspiration has always been teaching, performing and coaching chamber music, specifically the genre of string quartets. As an experienced chamber musician, I have performed and coached the main works for string quartet, the chamber music for 'cello with flute, clarinet and piano as well as the solo repertoire for violoncello. I am also familiar with the orchestral repertoire, opera and theatre music, through extensive work as a freelance player. Please request my CV for my professional referees.

Welcome to our website where I hope that you enjoy it and find what you are looking for. I am honoured and privileged to be the Head Teacher of Newbattle High School. I am proud to be leading such a great school where our vision and values are centred on supporting all young people to exceed beyond their potential. This is reflected in our school motto “Challenge” and our hashtag “AIMHIGHER”. The school’s ethos is ambitious, inclusive and supportive. Based within our Community Campus, working together for better outcomes is a priority and I see this every day in action where we know, and are proud of, our students. We are well supported by our parents/carers, community and partners both in and outside of school. A few aspects of our vision which sets us apart. All students are strongly encouraged to stay on until the end of S6 with correct courses to suit every young adult. These range from Advanced Higher, Work Based Learning, College Delivery onsite, Wider SCQF courses etc. We have an overwhelmingly nurturing ethos here where every student counts. This can be seen through our extensive and unique pastoral structure staffed with our Mental Wellbeing Nurse, Teacher of Wellbeing, Nurture staff, Outreach Teacher, Pupil Care and Welfare Officers and our fully funded Positive Learning. These important roles complement our House and Support for Learning teams. We are a Centre of Excellence Digitally with resources, partners, learning pedagogy etc to ensure that our pupils are advantaged digitally. We have learner pathways for career, College or University and have engaged Higher Education (Edinburgh University being a pivotal partner), Further Education (Edinburgh College being a pivotal partner) and Businesses as partners in the totality of our curriculum and school.
