Girls That Scuba

London

Girls that Scuba is a community of inspiring women who are passionate about scuba diving. We range from the scuba instructor, the beginner, the never-put-on-a-scuba-mask, to the full-time ocean activist, and everyone in between. Want to know how we became the thriving online community you see today? Here’s the Girls that Scuba story! 2016 – The Group and Website Sarah Richard was the only woman divemaster working on a boat in Micronesia and she wanted more women to talk to about diving. Finding a lack of spaces online, she made her own. The Girls that Scuba Facebook group was born. Girls that Scuba founder Sarah Richard smiles widely. She is taking a selfie on a boat, wearing a blue whale shark print dive skin. Within 5 months, Girls that Scuba became the largest women’s diving community online! Our content needed a space outside of social media, so we started the Girls that Scuba blog. The website continues to share educational diving articles, equipment reviews, and dive destination advice. 2017 – Girls that Scuba Store The community wanted a way to spot other members underwater, so our mask strap covers became our first piece of merchandise and we launched our Girls that Scuba online store. Over the years the store has grown to include log books, changing robes, DSMBs, passport covers, and so much more! 2018 – Girls that Scuba Trips and Membership As well as bringing divers together online, people wanted to be able to meet other members in person. Who were we to say no? Our first Girls that Scuba Day event took place in Indonesia, and was shortly followed by our first Girls that Scuba trip to Komodo Island. We now host scuba and freediving trips around the world. We also hosted our first ever Girls that Scuba Underwater Photography Contest – the first to highlight women in underwater photography. Allied with dive businesses and travel providers, we created and launched the GTS Membership Card – the first membership of its kind in the industry. The membership continues to offer hundreds of discounts on dive centres, liveaboards and scuba brands worldwide! 2020 – Courses and Ambassadors Whilst the dive industry took a collective surface interval, we collaborated with instructors and marine scientists on a series of webinars and offered sponsored scholarship places on each one. Inspired by our incredible community, we also introduced the world to our first group of Girls that Scuba ambassadors! 2021 – Returning to Travel With dive travel starting to reopen, we hosted 4 international and 5 UK based trips. Our second group of inspirational Girls that Scuba ambassadors stepped into their roles. 2022 – Trips and More Set to be our biggest year yet for events, we will be taking divers on 9 international dive trips and 7 UK adventures! Get Involved The simplest way to get involved with Girls that Scuba is to be part of our online communities! We’ve now grown to over 16 social platforms (more on that below), but it all began with our Girls that Scuba Facebook group which remains at the heart of our community today. Our private groups are a safe space open to women and non-binary people, and any other social platforms can be followed by people of all genders. For the opportunity to join us in person and dive on one of our incredible scuba adventures, head to Girls that Scuba Trips. If you want to share your Girls that Scuba pride far and wide, check out our merchandise on the GTS Store. And for exclusive discounts on our store and hundreds of dive brands, centres and holidays worldwide, pick up your GTS Membership here! Hi! I’m Helen. Yoga teacher, plant power nutrition enthusiast and anatomy nerd. I’m a lover of life and travel, trail running and surfing, plant-based food and sunshine. I believe in living life to the fullest, by doing what I can to feel optimal every day. My passion is sharing all that I’ve learned through yoga, meditation, nutrition and coaching, with others to feel their best too. I want to help you to be the best version of yourself: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, each and every day, because I know that yoga works profoundly on all these levels in making positive changes and improving lives. Take a class with me. My first experience of yoga was with Katy Appleton’s, Geri Halliwell DVD at age 15, that my mum gave me! Being a competitive swimmer at the time and completely focussed on my sport, I wasn’t impressed – I found it slow and boring. It wasn’t enough of a work out and I didn’t see the point (sorry Katy, I think you’re amazing now!). Oh, young Helen, how little you understood! Although I didn’t ‘get’ it at the time, I firmly believe that this was still a poignant introduction to yoga, something that would change my life in just a few years to come – thanks mum! Fast forward a few years, when I was 23 and teaching english as a foreign language in Japan. I started Karate lessons with one of my students and realised just how incredibly inflexible I was. One of my other students was training to become a yoga teacher and my interest was sparked. I started practising in my 11th story apartment (overlooking Mt Fuji nonetheless) several times a week to a Bryan Kest DVD and I became hooked on his Power Yoga style. This was more like it. The same year, one of my flat mates gave me a copy of The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle, and for me this was a turning point in my way of thinking, literally. I realised that we can be in control of our minds and that our minds should not control us. As my practice developed and I met and trained with great teachers, what began as a purely physical practice, evolved into something so much more. Yoga is a practice of the mind, body and spirit but we all have our own entry points. For most of us in the West, it is the physicality that attracts us. For some it is the desire for relaxation. But sooner or later, we find we’re gaining so much more than what we originally signed up for. It is this whole body and mind approach and the transformative effects that yoga has, that I want to share with you. Whether you’re new to yoga and curious, or more experienced in your practice and what to delve deeper, join me for a class, private session online or in person, or training.

Her on a Hill is a women's walking company launched in spring 2019. Our aim is to get more women outdoors enjoying the countryside with all the health benefits that this can bring. We aim to provide a relaxed and enjoyable guided walking holiday or navigation course where you will feel welcomed and well looked after. We know that without happy customers we wouldn’t have a business and we put a huge emphasis on your enjoyment while you are walking or learning to navigate with us. We know that your leisure time is important to you and we want you to get the most out of your time away. In order to achieve this, everything is organised with care and attention. You don’t have to worry about a thing so once you have booked you can sit back, relax and look forward to some great guided walking and /or learning with a small group of women who want similar things from their break. Her on a Hill offers a range of guided walking holidays, navigation courses, guided day walks and workshops, some with additional activities, but all with walking at the heart of things. We aim to provide different levels of walking and learning to suit most women; from leisurely strolls through to mountain hikes and multi-day treks. Our start up programme is intentionally small but we plan to expand our list in line with your feedback and input so do get in touch if you want to help shape Her on a Hill. About Clare Kelly I am a qualified Mountain Leader and National Navigation Award Scheme Course Director and have worked in the outdoor industry for over 20 years. I began my outdoor career working as a walking guide for Exodus, one of the UK's most respected adventure travel company. While with Exodus, I led guided walking holidays in Italy, as well as Nepal, Morocco, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Austria, and Spain. Between 2007 and 2018, I worked as a walking guide for Walking Women, guiding holidays in the UK and beyond. From 2012 to 2018, I was employed as office manager at the same company and combined this role with my guiding. In 2016, I set up Navigation for Women to help women develop new skills, gain confidence in their map and compass reading and put these skills into practice in the hills of the UK. I gain a huge amount of personal satisfaction from passing on the outdoor knowledge that will open up a whole new world of walking to the women who come along. In 2019, I embarked on the next chapter in the form of Her on a Hill. I have long dreamt about running my own walking company for women and I’m really pleased to have taken this huge step. It has been exciting and at times daunting and, now that it is a reality, I am enjoying providing a varied programme of memorable guided walking activities. I hope you’ll join me! Nepal – Where It All Began… In the 90's I lived a fairly sedentary life, living and working in London until one day a friend invited me to join her on a trek in Nepal. At the time, I wasn’t a walker at all but I did enjoy travelling and played squash once a week which, to my mind, meant that I was “fit”. So, of course, I said yes and promptly started training. My idea of training for a Nepalese trek was somewhat ill conceived – wandering the footpaths of Kent and Sussex on a Sunday afternoon really didn’t cut it! In Nepal, I struggled day after day, up and down those trails, cursing and sweating. And then, the mountains worked their magic and very soon it all made sense. The rose-tinted spectacles came out and my life changed forever. I was hooked on walking and on Nepal. The grandeur of the mountains, the wonderful people, the adventure of crossing rivers on rope bridges, the pure scale of the landscape around me, the joy of the simple routine of getting up, walking, eating and sleeping. Reaching Annapurna Sanctuary was simply amazing – to stand in a glacial basin at 4,000m and be surrounded by 7,000m peaks. Indescribable! I’ll never forget the sound of the glacier moving and cracking below as I tried to sleep.

Sheffield

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is one of only three dedicated children’s hospital trusts in the UK and provides integrated healthcare for children and young people, including community and mental health care as well as acute and specialist services. We see children from 0-16 in most cases and in some cases up to 18. We provide a full range of services for residents of Sheffield and South Yorkshire as well as specialised services for patients from across the United Kingdom. Caring for patients across the UK Demand for our services is growing and we are increasingly delivering healthcare to patients over a wider geographical area as our reputation for providing outstanding specialist care grows. We have some of the best medical and surgical services for children in the country. In 2021/22, 210,439 patients attended an outpatient appointment (including over 25% virtual appointments). A further 60,720 children attended A&E. 26,255 Mental Health community contacts were made across the Sheffield region and 23,341 COVID-19 vaccines were provided to protect children, young people and staff. Provider collaborative for CAMHS Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is the NHS Lead Provider for the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Provider Collaborative for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Provider collaboratives are new regional partnerships of organisations that provide specialised mental health services. These partnerships are being established across England as part of a national programme of work that sees the responsibility for the commissioning of specialised mental health services transfer from the NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE/I) Specialised Commissioning team to the new regional provider collaboratives. The SYB Provider Collaborative for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) launched on 1 October 2021 and covers the following service areas: General Adolescent and General Adolescent LD Services, Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU), Specialist CAMHS Eating Disorders Units, CAMHS Low Secure and CAMHS Low Secure LD and Autism/ASC Services. Provider collaboratives comprise all the NHS Trusts and Independent Sector providers responsible for specialist mental health and learning disability and autism services for the population within a specific area. The SYB provider collaborative footprint covers Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. Our provider partners are Cygnet Hospital Sheffield and Riverdale Grange (eating disorders) who provide CAMHS services alongside the Becton Centre for Children and Young People provided by the Trust. Together we will seek to transform specialised mental health services in line with the priorities outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan. To find out more visit www.england.nhs.uk/mental-health/nhs-led-provider-collaboratives/ Staff We employ more than 3,000 people and strive to recruit and retain the best doctors, nurses, allied health workers and other staff. The commitment of our employees is key to the Trust’s success and reputation. The Trust is committed to being a leader in the field of training and research in children’s healthcare and we continue to deliver a strong portfolio of research and product innovation. View our Staff A-Z and meet some of our teams. Strategic aims We have three overarching aims that set the direction for the Trust and our clinical services in our vision “to create a healthier future for children and young people.” Outstanding patient care Brilliant place to work Leader in children’s health You can read more about our strategy at our Caring Together page. Sustainable Travel Plan We have released our Sheffield Children’s Sustainable Travel Plan for 2022-2025. This plan details all the sustainable travel focused work Sheffield Children’s will be doing over the next few years, while on the road to reach our aim of carbon net zero by 2045. Did you know that in 2020/21, visitors travelled almost 5 million miles to our sites in total, with an enormous 72% of those miles in a car? This equates to travelling around the earth 200 times! It is our aim to lower this and reach carbon net zero from patient and visitor related travel by 2045 at the latest. Reducing emissions associated with traveling helps to lower the levels of air pollution in the area. Air pollution has negative impacts on our health, especially impacting children and young people. Travelling to our Trust sites We understand that as well as the cost of living, the rising costs of fuel in the country are affecting everyone. Alongside the plan, we have developed our travelling to Trust sites page on our website for patients, families and carers, giving you all the options and information you need to travel for your appointments and care (including video appointments) and we will be including this link in appointment letters. History Sheffield Children’s Hospital was first established in 1876. Since 1948 it has provided services under the NHS and in 1992 it was established as an NHS trust. On August 1 2006, it became Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust under the Health and Social Care (Community Health and Standards) Act 2003. Find out more about our foundation trust status. Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is registered without conditions with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Integrated Care System (ICS) is a partnership of 23 organisations responsible for looking after the health and care of the 1.5 million people living in Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield. It is made up of NHS organisations (including us), local authorities and key voluntary sector and independent partners in our region. An Integrated Care System is another way of describing the ambition we have locally to ensure health and care services are the best they can possibly be. By working together we will be able to better join up GPs and hospitals, physical and mental healthcare, social care and the NHS and give our patients the seamless care they have told us they want. Through partnership working, we believe we can make real and long lasting improvements to the health of local people. As individuals and organisations working alone, we would never be able to achieve the same results. Our goal is simple. We want everyone in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw to have a great start in life, with the support they need to stay healthy and live longer. To find out more visit: https://www.healthandcaretogethersyb.co.uk/ In 2017 the partners who now form the Integrated Care System published a System Transformation Plan for South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw. Following the publication of the NHS Long Term Plan earlier in 2019 partners are now working together to create a new 5 year plan, which sets out how South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw organisations will work together to help deliver the Long Term Plan in our area. Sheffield Health and Care Partnership Sheffield Children’s is a member of Sheffield’s Health and Care Partnership (HCP), which brings together seven partners in the city to focus on issues that are better addressed collectively.
