Accrington Stanley Community Trust is an award-winning, non-profit, self-funding registered charity (Number 1139575) and community organisation that has been working within the Hyndburn community since 2007. After becoming a registered charity and re-forming as a Community Trust in 2010, the organisation has seen an accelerated rise and growth. Accrington Stanley Community Trust was originally established under the banner of Football in the Community in 2007, with the aim to bring the professional club and their community closer together. Natural progression from Football in the Community resulted in the scheme being taken on to work alongside and under the guidance of the Football League Trust. Accrington Stanley Community Trust has expanded at a phenomenal rate and we now work in 4 key themed areas: Sports Participation, Education, Health & Wellbeing and Social Inclusion. Football and in particular, Accrington Stanley Football Club has the ability to engage people, improve community cohesion and raise the hopes and aspirations of the people of Hyndburn. As a Club we are committed to ensuring that we respond to local needs whilst working strategically in line with regional and national agendas. We all recognise that sport can play a prominent role in addressing major issues such as obesity, anti-social behaviour, health, employment and attainment. Through key partnerships and a robust multi-agency approach, we ensure that we can achieve our aims and objectives effectively and efficiently. Our partnerships work underpins the entire scheme delivery programme and enables us to work strategically within Hyndburn. These relationships enable us to engage with underrepresented and hard to reach groups.

This award will be used to support business growth in the rural communities in the west of Northumberland. We aim to work with people who are considering self-employment as a viable alternative to employment. We are particularly interested in assisting people from the farming community looking to diversify, home working to support young families and helping older people stay in their communities. We offer customised training opportunities on a range of open courses for a wide variety of job and life skills opportunities through one-to-one learning support, individual learning plan, progress reviews and advice and guidance. We have delivered programmes ranging from privately funded courses to ESA, EFA 16-18, Traineeship, Apprenticeship, Advanced Learning Loan and Adult Education contracts from entry level 1 to level 7. Our excellence in quality assurance, leadership, and project management have enabled the sustainability of our business, timely completion of our learners' courses and in getting to their destinations. Our average success rate since 2014 is ninety-eight percent. Zurbel Training works with local communities such as the Job Centre Plus, Connexions, Advice & Guidance and the Outreach Team in making sure candidates are guided on the right path. Our gratitude to our business partners working with us for our learners' work job placement, 95 per centre. With the support of our centre partners, courses are now delivered closer to learners' vicinity within their community. They also have the opportunity to study from home via our online E-portfolio assessment system. On completion, all our learners supported with progression route into further education or employment, where we offer them workshop activities on their CV writing, confidence building and job interviews techniques. General feedback from stakeholders i.e learners, employers, staff and funders have been so encouraging, in seeing learners achieving their aims. Our main aim is to increase our provisions to the hard to reach target group in the country and to secure direct funding.

Bold ideas, big conversationsReform’s report, 'Academy chains unlocked', presents results from the first survey of academy chain chief executives. It recommends reform to the funding and oversight of chains to raise standards across the country. Since first introduced under Labour, academy schools have been the main way that governments have sought to raise the standard of schools. Their popularity with policymakers means that two fifths of state-educated children in England now attend an academy. While there are different forms of academies, all have greater responsibility over the curriculum, staffing and finances than other state-funded schools. Yet the evidence that academies have improved school education is not clear cut. Labour’s academies have almost certainly led to sustainable improvements in pupil outcomes. However, the Coalition Government’s academies have had variable impact, with some lowering, some sustaining and others improving education in those schools, depending on the starting point of the school. Taken in its entirety, the evidence suggests that the recent academies are not having the transformative impact on education that was expected by government. The Conservative Government has changed its approach to academies. It now expects all new academies to join or establish an academy chain – groups of two or more academies run by the same sponsor – believing that chains will help unleash the potential of academies to spread educational excellence across the country. Yet, as with individual academies, the evidence on academy chains shows variable impact on pupil attainment. There is a dearth of information explaining why, as no research has established a full enough picture of what academy chains do.

Spencer is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies solely on the contributions of generous individuals and the industry. Spencer was named in honor of the late Robert S. Spencer, an innovative leader and past president of RIMS, and an outspoken advocate for risk management education. Since our founding, we have awarded over $8 million in scholarships and over $5 million in grants to universities and professional institutions impacting more than 60,000 students through our programs. We have taken actionable measures to foster a diverse pipeline of talent into the industry. The Spencer Educational Foundation believes diversity, equity, and inclusion in the risk management and insurance industry is a business imperative that only makes us stronger. Redesigned our scholarship application so that applicants can self-select their race/ethnicity and gender identity, in order to track (and measure) who exactly is receiving our scholarships. Changed our scholarship application review process so that all identifying information (name, demographics) is not visible during scoring, to avoid interference from unconscious bias to the extent possible. Enabled the creation of 43 new diversity scholarships (8 with the NYC Association of Insurance Women, 8 with Arch Insurance, 3 with the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies (LAAIA), 6 with Argo Group, 2 with Beecher Carlson, 3 with Beckage, 2 with Hylant, 2 with AF Group, 2 with Travelers, 5 with Allied World Assurance Company, and 2 with Liberty Mutual), specifically earmarking funds to be awarded to students who identify with a historically underrepresented group. This funding represents a deliberate investment of over $180,000 in diverse talent. Reaching out to MSIs and HBCUs to inform them of our Course Development grant and other opportunities, to foster the creation of risk management classes and programs at more educational institutions that serve historically underrepresented groups. Working with other corporate partners and industry groups to sponsor diversity scholarships and course development grants at Minority-Serving Institutions. Awarded Course Development Grants to 2 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to develop and launch their first RMI course on campus: University of the District of Columbia and Fisk University. Blantyre Soccer Academy is a registered charity SC 043613 whose objectives are to advance public participation in amateur sport of football by promoting the game of football through the provision of recreational facilities and activities. To improve the fitness and health of the persons for whom the facilities/activities are primarily intended and to provide a safe environment to encourage and promote the development of football, health, self-esteem and friendship within the community of Blantyre and its environs. This is achieved with age groups of children from 3 years to 19 years of age also an adult amateur team and an over 35’s team. We also are a Full Disability Club and provide a full player pathway. In our R & C, the committee of the Academy outline the genesis, rationale, objectives and future proposed development of the association and where we see ourselves progressing towards in the short, medium and long term. WE ARE A REAL COMMUNITY CLUB - "Building a Better Blantyre One Person at a Time" Blantyre Soccer Academy as a whole has, since its inception in 2010, been organised and run solely by volunteer coaches and administrative staff and exists as a non-profit making venture. As a self-funded organisation of volunteers we of course rely very much so on the goodwill of the local community we seek to serve. We aim to provide facilities and equipment and it will be available to anyone irrespective of race, colour, religion, sex, sexuality or disabilities. We aim to promote a respect for diversity and encourage people to take pride in themselves and their team mates through the game of football. As such we source sponsorship from local sympathetic businesses and other individuals who share the mission aims of our project. Like all such organisations which exist and thrive and are dependent on the goodwill of the local community, we are always seeking to source alternative mechanisms for funding so as to ensure our organisation continues to thrive and play a vital role in our local community in terms of social cohesion and integration. Blantyre Soccer Academy plays a highly significant role in providing diversionary activities, interventions and opportunities for young people in the Blantyre area, although we stress we are not limited solely too young people from Blantyre and positively welcome those from other districts to participate in all our activities. We strive to promote positive living, nutrition, discipline and exercise and in-still in our young people the advantages of a healthy lifestyle. Blantyre Soccer Academy seeks to provide our young people with positive role models and regularly invites successful sports persons to visit our young people so as to encourage them to participate in the diversionary and positive activities promoted by our club. I oversee Erasmus work-based internships from all over Europe. I also write large funding applications to give local people the opportunity to experience different cultures, learn new working ethics and enhance their employability skills.
