GCB Falconry & Pest Solutions Ltd Managing director is Gino Belmonte who created the pest control business off the back of a lifelong passion for Falconry. He flew, trained, reared, bread, hunted and displayed Birds of prey from the tender young age of 8. Having volunteered in many falconry centres every spare minute he build up a deep understanding and desire for this ancient craft. The diversity of this business means you will sometimes catch Gino at a wedding with his Owl ring bearers dressed to impress and be seen or dressed in camouflage hidden carrying out his pest control. After much success on the field in Rugby union and joining the Armed forces as a REME Recovery mechanic, Gino sort to begin his own venture in Falconry and Pest Control. Gaining his BPCA/ RSPH Level 2 in Pest Management qualification the business began. The initial desire was to create a business around Falconry with displays in mind. This is still the roots of the business but expansion has lead to utilising Birds of prey to their full extent. Bird control with Birds of prey is an environmentally successful means of control on sites such as Hospitals, Schools, Landfills, Shopping centres, Airfields, Sports stadium and so on. This venture required a pest control qualification that allows GCB Falconry & Pest Solutions covers wasp nest treatment and removal, honey bee removal, bird control, rodent control, mice control, insect control, rabbit control, fox control, fumigation and Covid-19 fogging. Many target audiences have called upon GCB Falconry & Pest Solutions and have always been impressed.

Urbed (Urbanism, Environment and Design) Ltd to close-Urbed Trust unaffected It is with great sadness that we announce that our partner organisation Urbed (Urbanism, Environment and Design) Ltd will close early in 2023. The employee-owned cooperative finds itself with no option, following the completion of several projects and operating in an incredibly difficult post COVID environment, particularly with public sector tendering. Urbed (Urbanism, Environment and Design) Ltd formed in 2006, and grew out of the original Urbed (Urban and Economic Development) Ltd from 1976. It is one of the last surviving members of a group of consultancies that pioneered the process of urban regeneration in the 1970s and 80s. Since that time Urbed have undertaken ground-breaking work on the reuse of industrial heritage, managed workspace, town centres, sustainable urbanism, domestic retrofit, urban design and coding. Their closure will not affect ourselves at the Urbed Trust. We are a separate not for profit company run by Urbed’s 1976 original founding director Dr Nicholas Falk. We will continue our work on smarter urbanisation and sustainable housing in both the UK and India. Who are the URBED Trust? The URBED Trust is a not for profit company with charitable aims set up to promote research into the future of urban areas, and to disseminate best practice. The trust was reconstituted after Nicholas Falk and David Rudlin won the 2014 Wolfson Economics Prize for showing how to build new Garden Cities that are visionary, viable and popular. A group of expert board members are overseeing different projects, in partnership with other public bodies.

It has always held a fascination for me and exploring the history, techniques and examples of embroidery from around the world has been a joy as I have learned more and more about this extraordinary craft. As well as Day Classes, the Certificate and Diploma, Summer Intensive Certificate and the Degree modules at Hampton Court Palace, I have taught at the Victoria and Albert Museum, The British Library and The Royal Free Hospital. Currently I have a studio at Lancaster Castle though I spend a lot of my time teaching and embroidering elsewhere. I run workshops and teach classes for the RSN, at Hampton Court and in Lancaster. Recently I've taught at The Brewery Arts in Kendal; Swallows and Artisans, Coniston; Farfield Mill Sedbergh; and Cumbria's Museum of Military Life in Carlisle to name a few. I also run Embroidery Groups in Kendal and Lancaster. Alongside that I continue to exhibit, recently I've curated exhibitions at Farfield Mill, at Cumbria's Museum of Military Life in Carlisle, and Lancaster Castle. And I found time to do online courses for the RSN and for the School of Stitched Textile, host a holiday for Colouricious and talks for embroidery groups. During Covid I've also taught and tutored online. When I'm not busy with all this I love undertaking renovations, and have done work ranging from samplers to a Shabraque for the Parachute Regiment's pony. This versatility came in handy working as an expert with the BBC One Programme The Repair Shop. It's busy but great fun.

My journey began in 2003 when I achieved my qualification as a Driving Instructor, realizing a lifelong ambition and following in my father's footsteps. Helping young people navigate the road to safe driving has always been at the core of my mission. Life took an unexpected turn when my now ex- husband received an opportunity to work in Dubai, leading us to embark on a 15-year adventure in the Middle East. During this time, I temporarily stepped away from teaching. However, upon our return to the UK, the challenge of finding a Professional Driving Instructor for my 17-year-old daughter opened my eyes to the struggles parents face. This personal experience ignited my determination to re-qualify as an instructor, and I found immense joy in helping my daughter and other students achieve their driving dreams. In the wake of the global changes brought about by Covid, the demand for Driving Instructors soared. Distressed parents, unable to find professional help, approached me daily. Witnessing this struggle motivated me to create online courses, offering parents valuable insights and guidance for supporting their teenagers through the learning process. I also initiated the "Private Practice" Facebook Group, a community where I freely share advice to enhance home practice. 🚗 Online Courses: My online courses are designed to empower parents to provide the right support at home, ensuring their teenagers receive effective training. When I was employed by our sister company Reach Alternative Education, we were moved daily by seeing our families clearly needing support and guidance with various situations and circumstances. Although we were able to do this to a point our social consciousness knew that this was not enough. This troubled us greatly, so we set about researching what was missing from our local communities and how we could bridge that gap. We realised we could create a response to address the imbalance that would add to the already vital services out there; whilst making sure that what we offered was completely accessible particularly for our families who never quite met thresholds with statutory or specialist services elsewhere. After much careful consideration Reach Out (SW) CiC was born as a not for profit community interest company. We hadn’t of course anticipated all things Covid-19 so our pilot and launch are commencing slightly later than scheduled as we do our utmost to accommodate best practice in line with ever-changing guidelines from the government. We are very fortunate to have complete support from Reach Alternative Education along with our directors and Advisory Group. We believe we have a format that is responsive to the ever-changing need of environments. We endeavour to supply practical support, guidance and enterprising opportunities to our local families that chose to access it. We launch our pilot in late September 2020 with the aim of obtaining enough grant support and donations to make the provision available to fully launch our Not for Profit Community Interest Company in late March 2021.

Paths to Learning was established as an EDUCATION CONSULTANCY, by Felicity Gunn, in 2018. ITS PRIMARY PURPOSE WAS TO SUPPORT PARENTS IN FINDING THE BEST EDUCATION FOR THEIR CHILDREN IN THE UK. Parents may have been: British and returning home after working abroad, or international and seeking a boarding school in the UK or looking for a Special School for a child with Learning Needs. Felicity placed a significant number of children successfully, in a wide range of schools, both maintained and independent. UNDERSTANDING CULTURES emerged as a key theme for: advising schools in the UK receiving children from other countries, and parents and their children who were coming to the UK. To that end she ran a Virtual Summit entitled KNOWING CULTURE FOR BETTER EDUCATION 2020 at which 20 eminent speakers including head teachers, school managers, pastoral leaders and cultural consultants, contributed insights in how to manage the complexities and nuances of cross-cultural relations, thereby ensuring a fruitful educational experience for children unfamiliar with “the way we do things here.” All talks have been transcribed and are still available at no cost. As Covid 19 sped around the globe it was clear that few parents would be moving, or wanting their children to travel to the UK, for their education. Then early in 2021, Felicity married and moved to Derbyshire. As Christmas approaches, many of us find ourselves wondering how best to balance our budget and sustainability consciousness with the consumerist expectations promoted through the media. And this Christmas those concerns feel as real as ever. In the wake of Covid, and with the huge challenges of the cost-of-living crisis, young people across Devon are suffering from more mental health issues than ever before. “In the last three years, the likelihood of young people having a mental health problem has increased by 50%. Now, five children in a classroom of 30 are likely to have a mental health problem.” The Children’s Society Meanwhile, schools have their purse strings tightened weekly. Access to the arts is often one of the first priorities to be cut in school, even while children are known to benefit from it now, as much as ever. “I had a parent nearly in tears the next morning, as she spoke about how much her child had loved it and how it had boosted her confidence.
