Along with Government funding, it has helped us to weather the pandemic, keep our staff, and allowed us to reopen fully last September. However, we face a challenging period, as we build back our trading income.

Louise Smith opened Make North in August 2019 in Preston City centre, as a community maker-space where members could access facilities such as pottery wheels and print benches, as well as attending formal courses taught by our resident-artists Christine, Katie and Micaela. Seven months after launch our membership had grown to over 80 members and 100's of people had participated in courses, then Covid-19 closed our doors. In response we launched a home-pottery service and spent 15months delivering clay to member’s doorsteps and collecting their pots to glaze and fire, over 120 households participated, with all ages taking part. As it has for many the pandemic has been tough for us and we were too new to be eligible for government 'cultural recovery' funding and so after a long period of not covering costs and with ongoing uncertainty over Covid, we took the decision in July to close. We survived the lockdowns thanks to the enthusiastic and generous support of our members, we are incredibly grateful and hope we can find a solution to reopen soon!

Objectives As a charity our objectives centre upon: Relieving hardship Advancing education Developing capacity and skills of socially and/or economically disadvantaged members of our local community in Barking and Dagenham and its neighbouring boroughs. Our main focus is on the support of people who have a learning/physical disability or have mental health needs or other complex issues. We do this by providing support, information, advice and guidance across a range of training programmes and other meaningful activities which help our beneficiaries to identify their needs and enable them to fulfil their potential and participate more fully in society.

A little profile on me, I am and always have been devoted to Dance. I have danced from the age of 7 studying styles such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Freestyle, Lyrical, Contemporary and many more. I Studied at Birmingham Ormiston Academy for 2 years taking Level 1&2 Extended Diploma In Performing Arts & Dance (graded D*D*.) Then moving to Manchester for 2 years to attend Shockout Arts Academy studying Level 3 Extended Diploma In Performing Arts and Commercial Dance. I travel up and down the country taking classes in my spare time learning different choreography and styles you can never stop learning. I am a certified Teacher for AcrobaticArts and AcroTrix programs and also offer the UKA Dance syllabus and medal programme for Acro dance, Freestyle, Jazz and Ballet, also registered with the ADFP. I have all my DBS checks, Child Safeguarding, First Aid, Covid-19 preventions and fully insured. In November 2020, I opened The DevotionArts Acrobatics Centre, where we offer you all the equipment you need to be the best you can be, including being a Certified AcroPad Centre.
