Why working with a native German tutor will help your German The aim of our German tuition is that our students read, write, understand and speak our mother tongue to the best of their abilities. Being native speakers puts us in the position of working on our students' German in all aspects of language learning - from improving their pronunciation and intonation of German words, expanding their vocabulary in "Hochdeutsch" (standardised German) to advancing their understanding of various idiosyncrasies in German grammar. Even though many of these aspects can of course be taught by a non-native teacher, only a trained native speaker of the language will know whether your choice of words is not only appropriate but also natural in the context in which you used it, and will be able to help you speak German without accent. Unlike other German tutors, we don't believe it is possible to focus exclusively on conversational German. While speaking German is an important part of the learning process, even the most basic of sentences tends to require a good understanding of several, often interconnected, grammar rules. Hence, a good understanding of German grammar is essential. Otherwise, you would run before you could walk, and unfortunately the latter strategy is often encouraged by tutors who follow a conversational approach. Instead, our lessons involve speaking, writing, reading, listening, and a thorough grammar training, so that you learn the language properly. Our approach to teaching German- simple but correct With absolute beginners to the German language, we start by looking at the basics, such as how to introduce yourself, express likes and dislikes, and talk about your hobbies. In the process, we explain the conjugation of regular and irregular verbs, and key rules regarding German syntax. We also advise on the proper pronunciation of German words and point you to those letters that sound different than in English. While building your vocabulary on a range of topics from here on, our main focus will be to keep your sentences simple but correct, before gradually adding complexity as we move along. You'll find examples of our explanations of German grammar on our German language blog "Auf Deutsch, bitte!" Beginner students often struggle to express their ideas not because their vocabulary is so basic but because they try to translate literally between their native language and German. Simple but correct stops students from translating by keeping their focus on German grammar, by showing them to simplify their ideas with ease and by encouraging them to make good use of the German words they have learnt. Even fairly complex ideas can be expressed in simple terms when you think of synonyms for what you'd like to say and you concentrate on bringing your point across. The advantages of this approach are grammatical accuracy and confidence in writing and speaking. As soon as our students have developed the flexibility to simplify with ease, we work towards increasing nuance and complexity of their sentences through text work, grammar training and discussions in class. Intermediate and advanced students also benefit from our approach as it helps them to unlearn mistakes they made in the past and develop their fluency in speaking and writing. I was stalled in a comfortable yet loveless relationship that was dispassionate and wonted. I felt lost, confused, and alone. Most painfully, I was caught in a corporate job that while financially beneficial, sucked the life out of my soul. I was unable to perceive a way out, depressed because I couldn’t decipher what steps to take next to change my life, and at a total loss as to how to regain happiness. I was caught in unhealthy habits, addictions, and fears. It was a silent suffering, like slowly suffocating from carbon monoxide poisoning. Then I became crippled with anxiety. My heart would race, I would break out in a cold sweat, my vision would narrow, and I would edge nearer and nearer toward fainting or vomiting. The experience was visceral and terrifying. And, it brought me to yoga. I remember very little about my first yoga class except that it was the first time I sat face-to-face with my pain, and I survived! Laying down for Savasana, the final resting posture, I surrendered into the floor. Layers of stress, fear, and panic melted away. For the first time, in a long time, I felt at peace in my body and in my mind. I don’t remember when I went back to yoga again, but I know I did. I left class knowing I had just met my biggest challenge and my greatest gift. Yoga would eventually teach me that I could experience the depth of my pain, and not only survive but thrive. Meditation would eventually teach me that I could feel my feelings and not run away. Yoga and meditation shifted the entire course of my life. Today I live a life that many people dream of. I travel the world, do what I love, help others, and am married to a man I love and who loves me in return. I would not be here without the roadmap the practices of yoga, meditation, and personal growth provide and I promise they will help you achieve your unique vision of a life you are head over heels in love with too. Urban Botanical is a Botanical Design Service based in Dundee. Our bespoke service offers beautiful, romantic, naturally styled botanicals for your wedding or event. I established in 2016 Urban Botanical, my intention was to approach floristry from a fresh perspective, one not bound by rules or code. My background is in Fine Art having graduated with a BA Hons in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone then continuing on to gain a Master’s degree in Art History from St Andrews University. After University I worked as a freelance Arts Educator running workshops in DCA and McManus Galleries for a few years prior to working in floristry. By 2015 I was working in a local florist, my second florist job but my urge to push the forbidden boundaries and explore the ‘frowned’ upon often caused disagreement. My background in Fine Art influences my approach to floristry, often problem-solving in a different manner from the ‘old fashioned’ or ‘traditional methods’ of floristry. The floristry that excited me was different, it was modern..… arty.. I decided then I had to find my own group of like-minded artist type florists. Through ‘The Glasgow Flower School’ I came to meet Jay Archer – Multi-award-winning florist Jay is known for championing British-grown, sustainable and seasonal flowers, and is widely respected within the wedding and floral industry. Jay talked about largely being self-taught, her work was beautiful, I was in love.. I finally found the definition of ‘floristry’ that I fitted into. My confidence started to grow and I started to really believe in myself but also I realised that just like Art, Floristry is subjective and not everyone will like what I like. During my final year at Art School, we learned the basics of being a ‘self-employed’ artist, learning things like how to quote and price a particular job based on materials, design, and execution which has obviously helped me a lot, also things like Brand Identity, bookkeeping, and accounts. Brand identity or brand ethos for me is something of a journey, constantly defining the things that are important to me, for what I want Urban Botanical to look like, what it represents. Whilst Urban Botanical is my career it is also my lifestyle. Country forage walks with my children is just normal for us, as is collecting ‘pretty weeds’ and wildflowers. Throughout the spring and summer, my ethos is to mainly use locally grown flowers, greenery, and herbs some of which produce the most delicate flowers as well as scent which is an important factor in my bridal work. Scent can evoke memories which is where my love for flowers started as a little girl picking flowers in my parent’s garden, making perfume, and potions. Do I like my job? YES – I love my job, working with nature, and the seasons is something I never realised I would love so much.

Have you been to Italy and loved the fresh pasta you ate there? Would you love to keep eating that yumminess at home, but can’t find the same quality and delicious taste anywhere else? Don’t worry: you are in the right place! Ciao! I’m Silvana, a 4th generation artisan pasta maker from Naples, currently living in London. My great grandad started a pastificio in Torre Annunziata (a town next to Pompeii) back in 1893. His daughter, my beloved nonna Rosa, took over in 1927. I came in the picture a several decades later: when I was a teensy weensy 5 year old, my nonna decided I was a bit of an handful, and put me to make pasta in order to save the house from destruction! As I grew up, I also helped in the pastificio, until it sadly closed in 1995. I started teaching how to make pasta quite a few years later, in 2013, because I was frustrated by the confusion and misinformation there is around pasta, pasta making, and Italian food in general. To this day, my biggest achievements are: appearing on BBC2 as a pasta expert, publishing recipe on The Local Italy, holding pasta making demonstrations in Harrods, and being included in a roundup of best workshops in Britain by the newspaper “i.”
