Learn the skills of a Crime Scene Investigator ... Explore the exciting world of the Forensic Investigator in this unforgettable interactive experience day. You will spend the day using real forensic methods and techniques to perform a range of established crime scene investigations. All investigations that you perform are "hands-on", giving you the opportunity to learn how these procedures work in real life. Your day will include: DRUG TESTING: Perform a drugs test! The suspect was carrying a small plastic bag of a white substance when arrested. He was known to police as a cocaine dealer. Was he carrying cocaine? Carry out chemical tests to establish if the white powder was cocaine? FINGERPRINTING: Learn how to lift and record fingerprints using the conventional dusting process to detect and preserve fingerprints. MICROSCOPY: Use a light microscope to forensically examine crime scene samples. Discover how to use different magnifying powers to optimise the results. FABRIC SAMPLE ANALYSIS: Compare samples collected at the crime scene and on the suspect to identify human hairs. SOIL ANALYSIS: Analyse soil samples collected from the crime scene and compare against soil recovered from the suspect's shoes. Identify which soil sample is common between both crime scene and suspect. Use chemical tests to confirm your results. TOOL MARK IDENTIFICATION: You have a known tool impression from the crime scene. Use forensic casting techniques to create clay impressions and compare with a range of tools recovered from the suspect's tool shed. Which tool did he use? BLOOD DETECTION: Blood-like stains were found at the crime scene. Before sending samples to the forensic lab we need to establish if they are blood samples. Use established forensic tests and procedures to identify blood spots and stains that may not be visible to the naked eye. DNA EXTRACTION: Perform an extraction procedure to extract DNA from samples provided. You will be able to see (and feel) actual DNA once you have completed the process! In this unique course with tutor Sarah Reece you will learn how to cut two shapes of stones: The first will be a free form shape with a flat edges as shown in the images. The second the focus will be how to create a traditional cabochon. This stone will be have a flat base with a rounded top. This will be cut from rough stone which you can each select from Sarahs beautiful collection. You can decide the shape and size and which part of the stone you wish to use. The class size is limited to just 1 student. So you do not breathe in harmful rock dust during the process, you will be cutting the stone while it is in water. With this in mind, please wear older clothes, and waterproof shoes – wellies are advised as it is not a clean or dry activity. Water sprays from the rotating wheels as you are working. We will provide you with a waterproof apron. This course is an excellent introduction to stone cutting. It allows you to step into the world of Lapidary where you can cut and create any shaped stone you desire, you won’t be beholden to the shop bought stone. This means your projects and settings can become completely unique as per your designs. You will be working with a Cab King 6″ and the Diamond Pacific Pixie Cabbing Machine. We support you throughout the session and provide demonstrations to show you the techniques and steps needed to create your project. All tools and consumables are supplied The stones you will carve are NOT INCLUDED in the price of the course – This is something you can choose on the day so you can select something you would like to work with. Sarah has priced up different varies in generous sizes ranging from £3-£20. If you would rather not buy stone to work with, no problem, Sarah has plenty of beautiful flint that you can use instead. What to bring: For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within the workshop. Wellies or older waterproof shoes advised. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. There are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of. Also pack your own snacks and drinks for the session if required.

Classes focusing on relaxation, Qigong, 1st part of long sequence and basic Pushing Hands.

Jewellery from reclaimed copper: You will use traditional metalworking tools and techniques to turn copper reclaimed from electrical cable and heating pipes into a bracelet and pendant or a pair of earrings.  This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and the price includes all the materials you will need to complete two pieces of jewellery to take home with you at the end of the workshop.

Stained Glass Workshop: 2 Days

The one day glass fusing course is designed to give total beginners an introduction to a new skill, and allow more time to create a larger piece of work. At the end of the day, you will have created a glass bowl, wall hanging or large wave (approx 30cm x 30cm). You should also have had some fun! I keep the glass fusing classes small, to make sure it's easy to give everyone as much input as is required. There is a 2m gap between all work-stations, to help maintain social distancing. We also provide visors (or you can wear your own mask), and there is lots & lots of hand sanitiser. All equipment & materials are disinfected before the start of each day. You don't need to bring any materials, as everything required to create your piece of work is provided. The only thing you need to wear are closed shoes (e.g. no sandals), and to bring some lunch. We can also arrange lunch at a small cost, if required. You'll start the day by creating a design - you can bring your own, or we can provide one. You'll learn how to cut the glass & then build up your design which is then fired overnight. You will be able to collect your design the next day, or we can arrange to post it to you (you just need to cover the cost of the postage). Timings: 10am - 4pm Buying as a gift? Just select the most appropriate date and, if that turns out not to be suitable, the recipient can simply reschedule over the phone or by email (we just need 2 weeks' notice).
