Suitability 
The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) qualification is ideal for those working in lower hazard environments (e.g. shops, offices), with smaller teams (i.e. less than 50 people), where HSE guidelines specify staff should be EFAW qualified or where they are supporting colleagues who hold a full First Aid at Work qualification. Learners should be a minimum of 16 years to undertake this qualification.

The informative and enjoyable one-day course will equip learners with the skills and confidence to respond to a range of first aid incidents and emergencies.

How to turn your creative passion into a career: first steps

Suitable for beginners and those with more experience, in this workshop you will design and create your very own bespoke, slate garden mosaic with Jacky from Mossy Mosaic.Mosaic making fits in perfectly with our vision of a world where recycling, repurposing and upcycling is the norm. Old slate can form the perfect base for a garden mosaic, hanging from the shed or balancing on a border. Bring new colour and interest into your garden with your very own bespoke design using vitreous glass, old china and sea washed glass!In this workshop you will use a reclaimed slate base to make a gorgeous mandala mosaic. You will be shown how to cut china and vitreous glass and you can also include sea washed glass and glass nuggets as part of your design. We will embed the tiles into an adhesive mortar mixture (an alternative method to gluing &amp; grouting). Learn how to provide initial support to someone experiencing a mental health crisis.
This in-person event will be held at the The Ashcombe School, The Student Learning Centre. The school has amble parking, please note the classroom is on the second floor. The school is a 5 minute walk from Dorking Main and Dorking Deepdene train station.
While the course may cover material that is emotionally triggering, we prioritise creating a safe and supportive environment and your self-care is important to us. Learners are encouraged to opt out during any section if needed, respecting their decisions and comfort levels.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are for everyone who works with, lives with or supports adults. They will teach you the skills and confidence to spot the signs of mental health issues, offer first aid and guide them towards the support they need. In doing so, you can speed up a person’s recovery and stop a mental health issue from getting worse.


Our courses won't teach you to be a therapist, but we will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis - and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. But more than that, we aim to give you the information, skills and insight to look after your own mental health so that you can set an example for young people. Siân Ellis-Martin joined Blake Friedmann in 2018 and is building a list of fiction and non-fiction at the agency. 

With regards to fiction, Siân is looking for commercial, upmarket and accessible literary novels. She always wants to be completely absorbed by the world of the novel, to jump into the character’s life and be swept into the narrative as if she’s been there all along.

Details 
Using pre-recorded training, interactive on-line content (through Padlet), self-directed learning and live events, this substantial and comprehensive blended training course keeps delegates interested, engaged and learning new ways to bring excellence to their 24-hour postural care provision and focuses on the often neglected lying position and how unsupported lying drives changes to a person's body shape which impacts sitting, standing and functional movement. 

You will have access to the online learning from 23rd April 2025 and be provided with all the information you will need to complete the course. At 1pm (BST) on 23rd April you will then join the trainers for an introductory event via Zoom to provide an outline of the training and to answer any questions you may have. Over the next few weeks you can access the pre-recorded training videos and interactive online content to enable you to complete the workbook. On 4th June 2025 there will be a series of live discussion events for the specific ages the course covers to assess your learning (you must attend at least one of these events - please see below for further information). 

Why? 
People with complex needs, deserve a thorough, co-ordinated 24-hour postural care service. We only get one body and yet people with complex disabilities don't always get the 'annual service' afforded the equipment they use.
Posture Positive report (2020) found training is a key aspect to developing resilient and robust 24-hour postural care for people with complex needs. Every person with complex needs or limited movement requires a comprehensive 24-hour postural care service delivered in a personalised way. 

Who? 
The course is suitable for specialist physiotherapists, specialist occupational therapists and other highly trained healthcare professionals working in health, SEN and social care. 
The course breaks down the life span of a person as follows:
0-3 years
Children and young people in education
Adults
Older people and palliative care

Each delegate selects the aspects of the course relevant to their particular area of practice whilst having access to all the course resources.

On completion of the course, it is hoped delegates will be equipped with the knowledge needed to deliver an outstanding, person-centred, 24-hour postural care service.

Sarah Clayton (BSc, PGCE) CEO Simple Stuff Works Sarah is passionate about all things postural care. Sounds dull but it turns out that her passion translates into highly contagious enthusiasm.
