The course will introduce you to some of the most enduring photographic portraits and provide discussion on why they remain so seminal. The course includes an introduction to lighting and composition techniques for portraiture, as well as providing guidance on shutter speed, aperture, lenses, and other visual controls. You will use studio flash lighting to explore basic techniques in formal and informal portrait photography – though all of the techniques taught are transferrable to natural and other lighting media. There will be time for participants to photograph under three standard lighting set-ups. Some digital SLR photography experience is recommended. Morning The morning session centres on discussion of the work of some classic portrait photographers and standard techniques employed. The discussions will include elements of composition, pose, gesture, format and technique. Afternoon The afternoon session will cover practical studio lighting, standard lighting set-ups, direction of sitters, and time permitting also a brief introduction to some of the editing capabilities of Adobe Photoshop. Project Days are designed for those who are already familiar with digital photography processes but who want to pursue a particular aspect or develop more specific skills in one or more areas. This course is the perfect follow-on from our Digital SLR training courses and will support you in building upon your existing knowledge of DSLR camera skills and becoming a better photographer in general. Makaton awareness: Taster session for museums  Tuesday 5 December, 10am-12pm  Are you interested in finding out more about Makaton and learning some useful everyday words to use in your museum?  About this training  According to The Makaton Charity, over 100,000 children and adults use Makaton symbols and signs, either as their main method of communication or a way to support speech. This includes young children and people with learning disabilities.   The Makaton Charity explain that, “Makaton is a unique language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential communication skills such as attention and listening, comprehension, memory, recall and organisation of language and expression.”  During this virtual introduction session, The Makaton Charity trainer will:  provide general information about Makaton and how it may be used in different settings to support language development and communication, enable attendees to learn approximately 30 useful everyday signs and symbols, alongside 12 more words which have been tailored for museum settings. Required Activities Pre-Course We ask you to come prepared with issues which you are currently experiencing that you would be happy to discuss and be coached on. We also send out a short document containing questions and exercises which will help our coaches understand you better and work with you in order to receive the best training. Post-Course To achieve this ILM qualification, participants will have to complete the following post-course activities: 3 x work-based assignments need to be completed within 1 year from attendance and registration. Embedded in the assignments, the Certificate will require delegates to complete 18 hours of coaching or mentoring activity with 2-3 people. The Diploma will require delegates to complete 54 hours of coaching or mentoring with 4-9 people. Tutor guided learning will take on the format of book and video reviews with ongoing tutor guidance and support via phone, Skype or face-to-face. Optional: Self-initiated 2 x 45 min executive coaching sessions per delegate to offer a coaching best practice view. Course Material Each participant will be issued with a workbook to assist them both during and after the course, which will contain information, guidance and forms to assist with the coaching sessions. Participants will also complete a Paradigm psychometric report and receive a year's membership with the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM). In-House & Classroom Courses Available Online We have developed an alternative to traditional face-to-face training that continues to provide a full learning experience, and allows delegates to learn effectively whilst self-isolating from home. This is how it looks: Delegates booked on Classroom and In-House courses will continue to have access to their trainer online throughout the days that the course is booked to run. Prior to a delegate's course start date, they will be enrolled on our e-learning platform (in partnership with BCF Group) for the course they are booked on to.
