Reaching Higher is a youth charity with a Christian ethos. We are focused on serving young people and challenging them to be leaders of their own lives. We teach young people the value of transferrable skills and help them discover the skills they’ve developed from their own lived experiences. They have a unique opportunity to learn and develop in a safe and welcoming environment whilst having fun!

Sadly, the message young people so often receive is one of conformity and comparison, they can be left feeling that they aren’t enough as they are. Our vision is that every child and young person would love their God-created uniqueness and be confident in their own voice and place in the world. Where young people are facing challenges we provide mentoring and workshops that enable them to explore who they are and what is right for them so that they can confidently pursue their chosen path in life.

Our aim is to provide young people and external partners the necessary support to help tackle the issues of marginalised youths between the ages of 16 and 24 living in the UK and Ghana. Our belief in incorporating education and training as key methods, whilst encouraging personal and social development, enables youth to have a voice and place within their communities and society as a whole. To help at risk young people from diverse backgrounds, create opportunities which are challenging and exciting, enabling them to learn and develop in a supportive environment. To provide preventive or recovery support they will need to move from a Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET) to Education, Employment or Training (EET) status. The company was founded in June 2011 by Buzz Bury, Sharon Phillips and Steve Burns after several months of discussions and business planning. The idea had been spurred on by significant cuts to public spending and the shift in emphasis for young people and community services to the development of social enterprise. Think Forward C.I.C. was created as the vehicle to provide services which benefit the local community, particularly young people and community groups.  The Team Steve Burns Steve has enjoyed a wonderful and challenging career in education for the last 22 years spanning the voluntary sector, social services, youth & community work, further education, and working with young people excluded from mainstream schools. His experience includes four years within a managerial position in a pupil referral unit in Blackpool. Steve is committed to life-long learning and has so far undertaken a MEd in special education, a post-graduate diploma in youth & community work and certificates in counselling, careers guidance, life-coaching and a Master Practitioner qualification in NLP. Buzz Bury Buzz is a qualified Youth and Community Worker with more than 28 years of experience ranging from club and issue-based work to management and staff development. He has significant experience in project management, particularly specialising in supporting art and creatively based activities and is an established and valued European Youth Work Trainer within the “Youth in Action” programme of the European Union. He has demonstrated innovative training delivery in the fields of “Youth Participation” and “Global Citizenship” as well as supporting international volunteer initiatives. Sharon Phillips Sharon has 16 years of experience working in services for young people, both in career guidance and in a leadership role for Integrated Youth Services provision. In her previous role at Blackpool Council she was the strategic and operational lead for training, development & accreditation for Blackpool Young People’s Services. Being passionately committed to youth workforce development, she is enjoying being back at the coal face delivering training and in her spare time (ha ha) is in the middle of studying for her Masters Degree in Youth and Community Work.

I qualified in Swedish massage and Preheat treatments back in 1997, and while I continued to use my massage qualification, my main career was as a surgical nurse and then a midwife on a high risk unit. After another 9 years of working with mainly physically disabled children and volunteering in disabled sports camps, I also qualified as a sports therapist. My medical background has given me a good understanding of both physical and mental health issues and injuries for which massage treatments may be sought, and the ability to identify causes of muscle tension that other therapists may not be able to. I particularly have lots of experience of using massage in physically disabled children , particularly spastic cerebral palsy, and in women's health, domestic abuse victims and PTSD sufferers. I am a multi award winning massage therapist, aromatherapist, certified oncology practitioner,trauma practitioner, breathwork instructor and massage tutor.My courses are one of a kind, covering the physiology from a medical perspective.

Our mission is to change the world – one girl at a time. Rites for Girls trains women to mentor girls right through their adolescence and to facilitate girls’ groups.  In Girls Journeying Together groups preteen girls prepare for puberty and learn how to take charge of their emotional, social, and mental well-being. This guidance continues through their teenage years.  Our Facilitators also support their mothers as the girls journey through this pivotal phase.  Our Girls’ Net groups provide guidance and camaraderie through times of challenge to small groups of same-age girls (aged 8-18) in weekly online sessions.  Our Mentors offer tools for coping well and the girls access their inner resources while also realising that they’re not alone.  We train women to become the woman they needed in their lives when they were young.  And together we make growing up for girls an easier, safer, and better supported journey.

Project 4 Youth Empowerment (P4YE) is a Community Interest Company born by four friends who became tired of constantly speaking about issues impacting young people negatively, so they decided to do something about it. Concerned about the number of young people involved in, or on the verge of criminality, unemployed, or not in education or training, our team decided to try to change the narrative by dedicating tailored programmes for young people. We assist young people and families by offering a range of support such as group and 1:1 mentoring, online workshops, case study workshops, a weekly youth club, advocacy, and signposting to other professional services. Prevention, intervention, and diversional work is at the forefront of what we do and what we aim for with our young people. We have been trained in Conflict Resolution and mediation and work to resolve instances that can often lead to situations of serious youth violence by using our bespoke methods. Our team has many years of experience of working with young people in a variety of settings such as youth work, teaching, specialised gang work, outreach work and working with young people with special educational needs (SEN). We also have experience in leadership, project management and media and we use our skill sets when developing projects and programmes.

Holistically, we also support family sessions alongside the children, in parallel workshops called The Parenthood Academy: Self development for parents, as well as exploring strategies on progressive parenting for the millennials. The multi award-winning Manhood Academy for Boys was birthed by 8 men who shared a single vision. Following a trip to Gambia by 4 of the co-founders of Manhood Academy, in February 2016 a community call out brought them together in the same room, meeting at an Ethiopian restaurant in South London. At the end of the round table meeting they unanimously chose to “Be the change we wish to see in the world” by collectively establishing The Manhood Academy.Each founder previously holding a distinguished track record in youth work, from a BAFA award winning senior educator to working on the streets of London with urban youth. The Manhood Academy officially launched to the community at Park View Academy, London on October 15th, 2016.A curriculum was co-designed from the collective wealth of experience of the founders, and the nameManhood Academy, Womanhood Academy & Parenthood Academy were coined. Established under the umbrella (CIC) community interest company name: Lifehood Academy on 15 May 2017. The Manhood Academy program was implemented with the intention of exposing our young people to character building experiences, tests and master classes.All geared towards shifting young people’s paradigm, from the chronic news headlines, school disenfranchisement and stereotypes some of our young people manifest as a self-fulfilling prophecy. Bringing about a new and empowering context, supporting the our youth to take responsibility for decisions that will set the course for a positive future.
