My first introduction to Kundalini Yoga was 14 years ago whilst visiting a dear friend of mine in British Colombia, Canada. I hadn’t seen my friend for two years and I was amazed at how radiant she looked and how vibrant and content she was. She had been practising Kundalini Yoga! I’d never heard of Kundalini Yoga before and I was very keen to try it, so I joined her in her practice. I quickly noticed its many benefits and on my return home I continued a daily practice using a DVD by ‘Gurmukh’, a renowned Kundalini Yoga teacher/ trainer based in Los Angeles. I began to let go of things that were having a negative impact on my life, and I really had a renewed sense of self belief. I listened to my inner voice and I found myself attracting positive opportunities and people into my life. My energy and my motivation blossomed, and I became more creative and more content. For years I had wanted to go to University and so at the age of 37, with a four- year old son, I went to University to study Music. During my third year at University I had my second son and I graduated when I was 40. I continued to practise Kundalini yoga intermittently and then in 2016, I found a teacher in Leicester, Dr. Japjeet Rajbir Kaur Khalsa. After taking classes for two years I decided that I wanted to share the transformational technology of Kundalini Yoga with others, so I began my teacher training. “Kundalini yoga is the supreme technology to awaken your awareness and take you into your original self. It is a natural unfolding of your own nature”. I completed my Level 1 Kundalini Yoga teacher training with the Karam Kriya school in May 2020.

After traveling seven seas, both geographically and professionally, Mairi started running Yoga with Mairi classes in central Scotland, in 2018, gradually growing a small but inclusive community of dedicated Hatha Yoga practitioners. Now getting close to 1000 of teaching hours delivered. Mairi started practicing Hatha Yoga 20 years ago, and had an honour to learn from many amazing teachers across the world. Her practice was, however, particularly influenced by the Bihar and Hridaya schools of Yoga, and this orientation led her to discover the Akasha Yoga Academy (Bali/Thailand), where she completed her 200hrs Hatha Yoga Teacher Training in 2017. Mairi also holds a First Class Certificate in Philosophy of Yoga, from Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies affiliated to the University of Oxford (2016). Besides that, and somewhat relevant to her teaching, Mairi holds a continental MD qualification from her first degree, and she is a Master of Science in social medicine from her second degree. She also holds a postgraduate qualification in Cultural and Gender Studies. Since her first qualification from the School of Medicine at the University of Belgrade (Serbia), and until recently, Mairi was an academic researcher in social medicine and medical sociology, and for some time, also a lecturer. She was specialising in qualitative research and understanding health and access to healthcare, with a particular interest in complexity theory, holistic health & integrative healthcare. Before finding yoga, Amor studied English Pedagogy at University for 5 years in order to teach English. Pedagogy is the science behind teaching. It is the study of how one learns best and what conditions facilitate learning. Her professional career as an English teacher started while living in Chile, and this made her realise that beyond teaching a language, she wanted to inspire her students to live healthier, happier lives and to realise the potential that lies within each one of them. She has been practicing yoga since 2007 and asanas (postures) makes only a portion of her yogic practice. She is a teacher who walks her talk and who is nurturing and caring. Amor is not only a passionate teacher but an avid student. She radiates her love of yogic texts, Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine, fascia and more and shares this with all who see her regularly in her classes. With a functional approach to yoga, her “yang/active” classes encourage mindful movements in which traditional postures are combined with innovative transitions and different methods that support the development of the student’s mobility, flexibility, adaptability and strength. In her yin yoga classes, she guides practitioners not only through a somatic exploration but also through an cognitive and reflective journey, providing a safe haven for all. In her classes, you can expect pranayama practices, guided meditations, yoga nidra, inspiring themes and much more. With heart and soul, Amor brings a positive, explorative, insightful and nurturing approach to the practice and classes and provides her students with a truly holistic view of yoga.
