What gifted children need most, very often, is other gifted children. We have been providing residentials, day events and more recently online classes where gifted children can find their tribe for over 40 years. Since the surge in online activity in the pandemic, our reach has broadened to include mixed-ability participants from the home educated community, but our culture of learning for learning's sake without the weight of judgment, assessment or the drag of trying to work alongside students who are not as curious about new ideas as you are, all remain the same. As well as our classes, we can offer advice to parents in negotiating with schools, and can sometimes fit in or arrange 1:1 sessions to introduce students to more advanced materials and ideas that can keep them challenged. Our regular courses and residentials are hosted on www.p4he.org [//www.p4he.org] (short for Philosophy for Home Education, but since we now offer philosophy, debate, improv, Shakespeare, creative writing and Dungeons and Dragons, and are open to school-frequenting people as well, there's more to it than that).

After graduating with a 2.1 BA Hons in Marketing and Business Studies, I qualified as a teacher and taught Maths, English, Music, Science and Business Studies in a Secondary State School. S6 Tutoring is a private limited company in the education sector, dedicated to tutoring and mentoring young people. The company is young and vibrant and is the choice for parents who want their children to maximise their academic potential. Our vision is to play a pivotal role in improving academic standards. The company provides an initial, honest, home assessment that will accurately evaluate a child’s need. Each tutor is CRB checked and has qualifications and experience relevant to the role. An assessment of a child’s ability and potential is carried out in the initial stages, leaving parents secure in their expectations. I encourage my team of tutors to be pro-active in their approach and be responsible for the provision of educational services, continually pushing the boundaries with effective and exciting teaching aids. We receive excellent recommendations and client reviews and have continued to attract new clients, due to the commitment of the team and the continued success rate in students passing and obtaining a place at their first choice of grammar school – details of which can be seen on our Results pages. In summary, I feel that S6 Tutoring will build on its success by continuing to offer an educational experience focused on the unique needs of each of our clients. The company has much improved since its inception, particularly with the launch of the S6 Hub. Our objective is to continue working with a personal and professional approach to provide our pupils with the opportunity to progressively learn and strengthen their skill set, to meet the demands of secondary education and maximise their potential.

Karen loves teaching people in all stages of life how to relax and feel better. She is also in her element supporting pregnant women and new mums. Karen Lawrence holds a Yoga Alliance recognised specialist qualification as a Yin and Restorative Yoga Instructor. She has also completed full training recognised by the Federation of Antenatal Educators which qualifies her to teach Pregnancy, Postnatal and Mother and Baby Yoga. Karen is a qualified professional Reflexologist, specialising in holistic therapy for pregnancy, menopause and women’s health. She has completed accredited training in Closing the Bones and Postnatal Recovery Massage. Karen holds a qualification in Aromatherapy for Birth. She has trained with MAM as a Three Step Rewind practitioner. She is a qualified Baby Massage instructor and a trained sound therapist. Karen is a Registered Midwife and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visitor), although she is no longer actively working in these roles. She is currently working part time as a registered health professional in the Covid 19 vaccinations programme. Karen believes in a gentle, holistic and compassionate approach to yoga, parenting and life in general. Yoga and meditation have helped her cope with some of the challenges of being a midwife, a health visitor, a mother and simply a human being. Karen loves to care for carers. Karen has a daughter with special needs. She knows all about the pressures of caring for others, both personally and professionally. Karen understands how important it is for carers to be able to rest and relax. Many people with heavy caring responsibilities come to The Calm Space for rest, empathy and relaxation.

A little bit about me – I have been learning music since the age of 7 years old. I qualified in all my instruments after taking my diplomas and went on to sign a record deal in a band called Vero. After the band split I carried on writing and consulting for the record industry for several years. Shortly after I set up a music studio, production and tuition company which became the biggest in Essex. Shortly after selling the business in 2018, I opened a music venue in Chelmsford called Hideaways. I’m also trained as a music examiner, but found travelling abroad for too long away from my family wasn’t for me.
