The Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH) is a chartered body which provides employees at every level of an organisation with the skills and know-how they need to carry out their workplace duties safely. Nationally recognised and respected, it is aimed at people at all levels and it meets the government’s guidelines for introductory health and safety training. Course Duration The course takes one day to complete. Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 sets down requirements for asbestos awareness training. Basically, any employer involved in work where there might be a risk of disturbing asbestos, such as general building, maintenance, demolition, or refurbishment, is required by law to ensure that all affected employees are educated and trained appropriately. More recently the importance of adherence to the awareness measures has been emphasised in the Health & Safety Executive’s ‘Duty to Manage Asbestos Enforcement Initiative’ and it is now clear that non-compliance will not be tolerated. In fact, several perpetrators have already been served with improvement notices, or in the worst-case scenario a probation notice, which results in an immediate and costly halt to work. Employee training is believed to be the best way to target the estimated 1.8 million workers who are potentially at risk of life-threatening illnesses following exposure to asbestos in their day-to-day work. These people include plasterers, roofers, plumbers, electricians, demolition, maintenance men and joiners but also the less obvious workers such as computer installers, ground workers, landscapers, and fire & burglar alarm installers. Aims To raise personnel awareness of asbestos and the risks associated with it. To comply with the legal requirement of The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Course Content • Introduction to asbestos - nature and origin • Types of asbestos • Properties and benefits (use of asbestos) • Health hazards • Possible locations of asbestos in buildings • Current legislation and guidance • Legal limitations on work liable to disturb asbestos • Working safely/duty holders’ responsibilities • Safe working in areas where asbestos is present • Decontamination • Emergency procedures/accidental damage/general procedures. Prerequisites None – The course is intended either as an introduction or as an update. Assessment Delegates will be required to complete a short multiple-choice test at the end of the training. Certificate This course is covered by certification to provide to your Clients, CHAS (and other SSIP) as confirmation of training undertaken and is valid for 2 years. IOSH Working Safely incorporating Workshop H&S Essentials

Planned changes to the Construction Skills Certification Scheme mean that from September 2017, Construction Related Occupation (CRO) cards will be phased out. Without registration on an accepted course, or an industry-recognised qualification for your trade, you will not be able to apply for a CSCS card, unless you apply for the CSCS Labourer Card, to access construction sites. An IOSH Working Safely Certificate, along with a CITB Health & Safety Certificate, allows you to apply for a Labourer Card. Therefore, from September 2017, without a CSCS card, you won't get on site. The Labourer Card may be the only way you can get on site.

A high-impact programme designed to be fun and to get people fully involved. The first-class, jargon-free content is based on what people need to know in practice, not off-putting legal language. This introductory course covers: Introducing Working Safely: Accidents can happen to anyone. The realities of the human suffering behind the statistics. The importance of personal responsibility. Defining hazard and risk: Focusing on the six broad hazard groups, participants are asked to think about the hazards and risks they come across in their own work. 'Risk assessment' demystified. Identifying common hazards: All the main issues - aggression and violence, asbestos, bullying, chemicals and harmful substances, computer workstations, confined spaces, drugs and alcohol, electricity, fire, getting in and out, height, housekeeping, lighting, manual handling, noise, personal hygiene, plant and machinery, slips and trips, stress, temperature, vehicles and transport, and welfare facilities. Improving safety performance: Bridging the gap between management and workforce, encouraging participants to play their part. Also covered: contract work, inspections, safe systems and permits, protective equipment, signage, emergency procedures, reporting and health checks.

This IMI qualification is designed for technicians who maintain, diagnose and repair high and low voltage operating systems on electric/hybrid vehicles. It contains the skills and knowledge required to work safely around a vehicles high and low voltage train system, whilst carrying out repairs or maintenance. This course will also cover working safely around a vehicle that may have has damage to its high energy/electrical system.

This one-day course is a must for all construction operatives! Not only is this a legal requirement under CDM 2015, but if your Company is accredited to CHAS or similar SSIP schemes you must be able to demonstrate that suitable training has been provided to your staff. Prerequisites None - The course is intended either as an introduction or as a refresher. Assessment At the end of this course, all delegates will have a clear understanding of the requirements of Health and Safety Legislation and their responsibilities to comply with them. Certificate This course is covered by certification to provide to your Clients, CHAS (and other SSIP) as confirmation of training undertaken and is valid for 3 years.
