Loudwater is bright and packed full of artistic materials with an amazing atmosphere allowing all our visitors to fully immerse themselves in creativity in a fun way. We pride ourselves on a relaxed, informal approach to creativity that everyone can enjoy at affordable prices. A place where skills can be shared, and friendships developed, in an inclusive environment you’ll never want to leave. With dedicated creative zones and a small craft shop, there’s something for everyone at Loudwater. From ceramics memberships, group sessions for disabled adults, workshop days run by professionals in their field and more, there’s lots to enjoy. Part of the Charity Vision Homes Association [https://visionhomes.org.uk/] all monies received are ploughed back into supporting the Studio, enabling us to provide access to creativity at realistic prices for all.

started willow weaving as a hobby through Medieval Re-enactment around 2000, the first items I made were life sized willow bee skeps, eel traps, quivers, chicken cages and many other medieval items. Surprisingly I didn’t make a basket in the first year of willow weaving. As time moved on, I moved away from the medieval scene and started to make more everyday products including baskets and decorations. Due to the amount of people who asked me, I then started to run workshops in basketry and garden items. I also started to learn how to make greenwood spoons and bowls using traditional hand tools.

Most of my workshops are held at The Barn, Usk Castle Chase, near Usk in Monmouthshire, South Wales NP15 1QX, but occasionally they run in other locations. countryside and craft courses

The Husbandry School is the Devon based joint venture of Carole and Jonty Williams. A journey that started many years back, it is the passionately held culmination of both their lives.

blackthorpe barn

THE BLACKTHORPE BARN WAS BUILT ROUND 1550, PROBABLY BY JOHN DRURY WHO HAD JUST ACQUIRED THE MANOR OF ROUGHAM THROUGH THE DISSOLUTION OF THE GREAT BENEDICTINE ABBEY AT BURY ST. EDMUNDS IN 1539. It is timber framed with a vast, striking thatched roof measuring over 30 metres long. The barn’s purpose was to be used for the threshing and storage of grain and it continued as a grain store until 1985. You can read more about the barn’s history here. These days the threshing barn and the surrounding buildings are used for events including the festive craft market at Christmas and other art exhibitions during the year, as well as for weddings in the summer months.
