I believe that dog training is a vital part of caring for your dog, and something which is often overlooked. It is our way of communicating with our dog – imagine starting a new job, and your boss or colleagues didn’t tell you what was expected of you, but got frustrated when you got something wrong? Now imagine, this is where you lived and had no escape from these expectations. It is our responsibility as our dogs guardian to show them what we expect of them, and not set them up to fail. Training is not just about getting your dog to carry out tricks or walk at a perfect heel. I believe we should be celebrating our dogs character and working with our dogs to ensure that we reach our goals together. You will be amazed how different your walks can be when your dog learns to walk on a loose lead – much more relaxing for you and your dog. I have recently graduated as an SA Pro Trainer. This means that I completed Julie Naismiths Separation Anxiety Pro Trainer course, and passed all three assessments. I am also a proud member of the Pet Professional Guild which is a force free organisation. Who am I? I am Amy, and have been passionate about animals for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I had a wide variety of pets, from goldfish and hamsters, to dogs and cats, to snakes and bearded dragons. I have always been fascinated in animal behaviour and why animals act how they do. From a young age, I always felt a close connection with animals and was able to read their behaviour fairly early on. I currently live with my rottweiler, Coco who you will probably see make an appearance in many photos and videos, and a desert king snake called Shesha. So… why choose me as your dog trainer? I have over 10 years of experience working with animals. I find many of the core principles in dog training can be applied with any animal. Whilst at university I learnt how to train various animals even including meercats and a serval! I spent 6 years working with and training birds of prey, and was lucky enough to be heavily involved with training our Raven, Millie. I have lots of experience training dogs, and have learnt about them both practically, as well as learning the theory behind why they do what they do. To back up my experience, I have many qualifications listed to the left. I am regularly attending seminars and short courses to further my knowledge and ensure that I am following the most up to date best practices. I will never suggest or use aversive methods – this is something which causes your dog pain or discomfort. There are many trainers who still use these outdated methods for easy and fast results. I do not believe in taking short cuts when it comes to the welfare of your dog. Choke chains, slip leads, prong collars and e-collars have no place in the world of modern dog training. I will always be honest with you – if the behavioural problem your dog is presenting is something beyond my remit, I will let you know and be happy to advise you on where to look for further assistance. The Natural Animal Centre provides educational courses on animal behaviour, training and management. The NAC courses have been running since 1999 and have trained many animal behaviourists who have gone on to build successful careers in behaviour and training. The NAC is run by a team of industry experts and is an approved UKRS and ABTC provider, offering the highest standard of accredited courses to animal owners and professionals alike. The NAC has its own virtual learning environment that allows students from all over the world to join in with courses, lectures and webinars, ultimately fulfilling the NAC mission statement; “Positively influencing the wellbeing of animals worldwide”. Heather and Ross Simpson founded the NAC in 1997 when they opened the first centre in Sussex. In 2003, they moved to Wales and opened the second centre and they remained there until 2019 when the NAC Sanctuary moved to Chichester after Heather sadly passed away the year before. With a background in animal behaviour, Heather has published her first PhD paper on zebra behaviour working with Professor Christine Nicol of Bristol Vet School. The Natural Animal Centre ran animal behaviour courses for people to come and stay and spend weeks at a time studying the science of animal behaviour, in a centre purpose-built for the animals it was home to. The NAC then developed further and converted the EBQ and CBQ stage 1 courses into online distance learning programmes which pioneered the way that people could learn the science of animal behaviour for these species, in as much depth as they would have done in person, from home. With this step forward came the release of the EBQ Stage 2 and the CBQ Stage 2. As of 2021, the ownership of the Natural Animal Centre changed when Ross chose Alex Le Grand as a successor. Alex brought on board Debbie Busby and Aliyah Woodland to help him develop the NAC further into the future of the animal behaviour industry. The Natural Animal Centre is now managed by the new team and is re-structuring all the courses and developing them further to move in line with the animal behaviour industry becoming more controlled over the coming years. With this, new programmes are undergoing development and in 2022 there will be more courses available for owners, professionals, degree students, etc.

I have a profound passion for painting and have sold my artworks world-wide. I am also an avid bookworm and keen writer. Growing up, I harboured a great love for martial arts. Choosing Karate as my discipline from the age of 7, I fought competitively as a child and acquired my brown belt by the time I was 13 years old. After retiring from my beloved hobby at the age of 15 due to debilitating knee injuries, I spent the next decade attempting to re-build my body, eventually settling on a low-impact fitness regime consisting of weight-lifting and the gentle, healing practice of yoga. Today, my injuries have thankfully dwindled drastically and I returned to martial arts at the tender age of 30 in 2019 and have fallen in love with the martial arts world all over again and continue to train as much as possible.

My many years' experience dealing with a range of illnesses, injuries and incidents has given me confidence in passing on my knowledge, and a drive to ensure that people are capable of performing competent first aid. During my time as a Paramedic, I quickly noticed that the most helpful conversations between First Aiders and Ambulance crew members were with those who felt confident that they had been able to help.
