When Bob Gormley, our Head Tutor, was working on a Ph.D. in Philosophy at Cornell University, he needed access to a medieval manuscript in the Cambridge University Library. Since Cornell wanted him to stay in New York to teach their undergraduates, Bob was ironically forced to go on leave from his Ph.D. in an attempt to finish the degree. An American rather than a British citizen at the time, Bob had to start a business to support himself so that he could live in the UK. So, in 2005, Bob built on previous test prep teaching experience he'd had in New York to start S.T. Logic, which quickly became the most popular tutoring company in London for American standardized test prep. As a result, Bob never finished the Ph.D. dissertation, even though he wrote about 800 pages of it...in Latin. In addition to the Master's degree he earned at Cornell, he does have two more Master's degrees (with distinction from Columbia University and London Business School) to go along with his quadruple major summa cum laude -- four majors with highest honors -- from his undergrad at Wheaton College, a small liberal arts college in the US. In 2022, the company changed its name to UpGraded Tutoring and continues to offer the outstanding tuition for which S.T. Logic was known. We offer lessons for the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and school work for the American, British, and International Baccalaureate curricula. Orange Beak Studio was founded in 2017 from a desire to work closely with illustrators and authors, to share knowledge and offer insight and encouragement for creatives. The co-founders of Orange Beak Studio are: Maisie Paradise Shearring an award-winning internationally published author and illustrator Ness Wood an award-winning designer and art director Orange Beak Studio Associates: Alice Corrie is a freelance children's book editor working on picture books, fiction and non-fiction. Katie Harnett is an award-winning internationally published author and illustrator. Louise Grosart has been working in children’s publishing for over a decade and edits picture books, non-fiction and fiction The Orange Beak Studio tutors have varied but complimentary skills. Maisie, Ness, Alice, Katie and Lou are all practising specialists in their fields of illustration, design and editorial respectively. In addition to this, both Maisie and Ness have teaching experience at post-graduate level. I’m a poet, prose-poet, short story writer and journal keeper. I write regularly for enjoyment, self-exploration, and as a form of reflective practice, and I’m passionate about the link between creative expression and wellbeing. “I’ve loved stories, poems and language since I was young. I’m fascinated by the different means we all use to communicate with others, and how we strive to overcome the blocks we encounter in our attempts to hear and be heard by others.” — RACHEL GODFREY I'm also a qualified and experienced Creative Writing for Wellbeing facilitator, offering interactive courses and workshops for adults, as well as one-to-one mentoring. I create and hold a space where participants can take creative and emotional risks to express themselves on the page in short (5-25 minute) bursts of 'live' spontaneous writing (poetry, narrative, prose-poetry, autobiographical fiction, memoir, and other forms), in response to a range of prompts. Participants can choose to share their writing and/or to discuss their reflections on the writing process, knowing that anything they do share will be held supportively. I constantly marvel at the diverse pieces generated by a single prompt and a time limit, and it’s a privilege to witness people grow in confidence as they entrust themselves, their writing and their creative process to the group. I have a background in ELT / TESOL (English Language Teaching / Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), and I’ve been a published author in this field for about 15 years. This work draws on my years of experience as a teacher and teacher trainer, and satisfies my deep interest in the patterns, sounds, and nuances of meaning of English.

You want the best for your child. You want to know they have been able to reach their fullest potential. My motto ‘no child left behind’ resonates with all families who have faced delays or denials to services. I taught for over 17 years and was a Head of Year to over 360 children, but I left my mainstream position to forge a better pathway when my son was 12 weeks old: I’ve not looked back since. During the pandemic I witnessed many children suffering with speech regression, especially my autistic families. I decided to undertake training in Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy for which I obtained a ‘High Distinction’ and in 2021 I successfully completed a MSc in Psychology (specialising in SEN) which informs my work. I am also registered with the BPS (British Psychological Society). Recently, ‘The Learn to Shine school’ appeared on the BBC after winning the ‘Making a Difference’ BBC award. I have extensive experience of working with and supporting children with Autism, PDA, foetal alcohol syndrome, Selective Mutism, ADHD, Dyslexia, complex emotional and behavioural difficulties, with significant results. It is essential to me that your child is nurtured as an individual, and given the correct tools for the rest of their life. I support numerous companies as an SEN consultant and currently advise Talent management The YMU group on neurodiversity. I am often interviewed for magazines and radio stations on SEN matters and want to dispel the myths out there! I created ‘Learn to Shine school CIC’ around the birth of my own little boy and girl. I know how hard parenting can be, and the challenges families face in the world of education, My passion is to enable every child, including my own, to be able to ‘Shine’.
