Ben England BA (Hons), PGCE, BEM is a music graduate of Bristol University, where he specialised in musical analysis, composing and musical direction. He trained as a conductor with Dr Alan Rump and Dr Adrian Beaumont, before going on to study conducting with Denise Ham of the London Conducting Academy. After graduation, Ben sang with groups as diverse as the New English Orchestra, the Bristol Chamber Choir, Bristol Opera, the Exultate Singers and the Choir of Clifton Cathedral. A bass baritone, he has performed widely as an oratorio and operatic singer, including lead roles in The Cunning Little Vixen and Der Mond (for Bristol Opera), The Magic Flute and the Pirates of Penzance. Ben currently teaches singing to adults and young people across the Bristol area. Ben is a former Musical Director of Bristol Opera, where he led the company in successful performances of Handel’s Samson and Lakmé by Delibes and he has led numerous choirs in and around Bristol for the past 20 years, including the large Bristol Cabot Choir and the Bristol Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Society and a number of smaller choirs. Having qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) of Music through the DfE Fast-Track Teaching programme, Ben worked for South Gloucestershire as a Head of Music and county Music and Music Technology specialist for eight years. In 2011 Ben took up the role of Director of Music at Colston’s Girls’ School, where he ran music across five schools (including four primary schools) from 2011-2016. His work as an educator brought him to the national stage on numerous occasions, as he lectured on music and leadership at conferences for the DfES and the National Association of Head Teachers. Ben has worked extensively with professional composers to champion their music, often commissioning and performing new works. These composers include local musicians Richard Barnard and Eric Wetherell, as well as more recently the eminent John Rutter and conducting a premiere by the renowned composer Patrick Hawes. Since leaving teaching, Ben has worked on a freelance basis for Bristol Plays Music, the music education hub for the City of Bristol, based at the Bristol Beacon (formerly Colston Hall). In this role he has organised and coordinated major performances at the Colston Hall, Bristol Cathedral and further afield. He managed the Bristol Youth Choir from 2016-2017 and coordinated the live BBC Radio/TV music broadcast from Southmead Hospital on BBC Music Day 2017. He has written award-winning education materials and been nominated for three national Music Teacher awards for his work on projects such as the Bristol/Monteverdi 450 choral workshops and university seminar and the Bristol Minute of Listening. He is the author of the curriculum materials for the planned international 2021 Berlioz celebrations. During the Coronavirus outbreak of 2020, Ben established HOMECHOIR, a free YouTube channel on which he broadcasts a range of free musical and educational programmes including choir rehearsals, music theory teaching and a Sacred Sing on Sunday mornings. In October of 2020, Ben (as founder of homechoir) was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) by Her Majesty the Queen for services to the community during the COVID-19 outbreak. Following the success of the Quarantine Choir, Ben was appointed Musical Director of the Self-Isolation Choir (founded by inspirational business leader Mark Strachan) which in 2020 has grown to one of the largest choirs in the world. Their inaugural project Messiah at Home was produced with some of the world’s greatest musicians including Laurence Cummings, Carolyn Sampson and Jennifer Johnstone and gained international attention. Messiah at Home was featured on the national BBC Evening News, all the BBC radio stations, NHK (Japan) CBS (USA) and many more – and has become part of the official Wikipedia entry for Messiah. The choir has grown to 12,000 strong and has recorded such amazing works as Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Mahler’s 2nd Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem and Allegri’s Miserere – working with the world-famous choir Tenebrae and their conductor, Nigel Short. Ben conducted the Self-Isolation Choir in the World Premiere of Still, Still the Night by Patrick Hawes in December 2020, and their version of Hawes’ Quanta Qualia was played on Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs in March 2021. Ben is much in demand as a choral leader and has taken on the Musical Directorship of the UWE Singers, a large SATB choir based at the University of the West of England. Ben lives in the South-West of the UK with his wife Ana and their children Katie and Bobby.

My name’s Marion Webber and I’ve been working in the field of Arts in Health and more general participatory arts for over a decade. Studies* have proven the benefits of taking part in creative activities that support our daily lives. I founded Arting Celfio during 2020, to enable Healthcare professionals and artists specialising within Arts and Health to collaborate and provide high-quality, tailor-made, person-centered arts projects. I am a practicing artist based in South Wales, with extensive experience in Participatory Arts Practice. This has given me the privilege to work with diverse participants on many commissions resulting in the installation of artworks in both temporary and permanent exhibitions. My art practice and knowledge inform how I collaborate and co-curate projects with Healthcare professionals and fellow artists within the field of Arts in Health. I have an MA (with Distinction - Arts Practice Arts, Health and Wellbeing) and gained a PGCE PcET Teaching Qualification (Post-16 and Adult Education sectors). I deliver creative workshops, informed by reflective practice and a commitment to continued professional development that connects, and provides meaningful activities that value people’s input and stories. Caroline Waldegrave is the founding Principal, former Managing Director and co-owner of Leiths School of Food and Wine, one of the most prestigious and respected cookery schools in the country. After 33 years’ involvement, Caroline retired and became a non-executive director on the board of Leith’s in 2009. She was also Chairman of the Guild of Food Writers for several years, and a former member of the Health Education Authority. Caroline was awarded an OBE in 2000 for services to the UK catering industry. Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching and love of food have continued to be the fundamental drivers of Caroline’s work. Since stepping back from day-to-day involvement in Leith’s School, Caroline has focused on imparting her wealth of cookery knowledge at Dudwell School, on the site of the beautiful Waldegrave family home, Dudwell Field Farm. In addition, she owns the Barley Mow pub in London's Marylebone with three of her four children, as well as being a director of the family organic dairy farm. Caroline is also in demand for media appearances, and has been seen on various TV and radio programmes, including Chef School, Masterchef and Tricks of the Trade. In what spare time she does have, Caroline enjoys playing bridge and tennis, and attending the theatre. Publishing Caroline is the author or co-author of a range of cookery books. These include the Leith’s Cookery Bible, Cookery Course and Cookery School books (co-written with Prue Leith), Leith’s Easy Dinner Parties (co-written with Puff Fairclough and Janey Orr), Leith’s Fish Bible (co-written with CJ Jackson), The Healthy Gourmet, and the Low Fat Gourmet. Started in 2017, Bristol Relationships is a fresh, dynamic, experience-led training initiative created by Barbara Bloomfield, Dominique Sakoilsky, Rex Baird and Zoe Baird. Barbara, Dominique and Rex have over fifty years of experience, with tens of thousands of contact hours of working with couples and, more recently, families between them. They all worked extensively together at Bristol Relate and, from 2007, were a core part of the team that pioneered the Family Counselling service there. All continue to have busy private practices. Now they are looking to share, expand and develop this body of knowledge and experience by offering specialist training to those interested working directly with human relationships. Zoe has a strong background in administration and organisation and is responsible for all the non-teaching aspects of Bristol Relationships. Barbara Bloomfield, MA Barbara Bloomfield Barbara has been a Counsellor for 23 years and a Counselling Supervisor for 15 years. She trained with Relate in relationship counselling and has completed over 16,000 hours of counselling and supervision during her career. In 2007, after taking a Diploma in Systemic Family Counselling, she, along with Dominique and Rex, started the Family Counselling service at Relate Avon. Barbara was a member of the Relate Domestic Abuse Training Team and has been a national spokesperson for Relate for many years, often quoted on tv, radio and media. She has written five books about relationships, one of which won a Time Out award in 1986. Her most recent book, Couple Therapy: Dramas of Love and Sex, is the world's first graphic novel about relationship counselling and is published in 11 languages. This book led to her working at Warsaw University in Poland with postgraduates. In 2017-18, Barbara won a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship to study creative and innovative ways of working with relationships where neuro-diversity is an issue in Australia and North America. Barbara is a Director of Lapidus International, the expressive arts organisation that brings together creative writing and arts with better mental health. She has a master's degree in creative writing and taught undergraduates at Bath Spa University. Her life passion is to continue helping people to have better lives and connections through therapeutic creativity.

My name is Amy Powell and I am a catalyst for reconnecting people with their innate creativity. At Bristol Art For All we facilitate friendly, inclusive learning environments where people can explore their creativity. We started in 2015 running an open access drop in face-to-face community art class in Easton in Bristol. From December 2019 to March 2020 sessions moved to Hamilton House in Stokes Croft Bristol and since April 2020 have been online. Online sessions are run in partnership with local charities as well as sessions open to all adults. Current partners include Age UK and St Mungo’s Recovery College. All online sessions are around a theme selected by the participants, who use the art materials and skills they already have to devise their own projects. Support is on hand to give input on what is made. The sessions act as an online art studio with time for making and opportunities to share and get feedback on artwork. Participants are seen as artists first with the acceptance that we are all on our own life journeys. The focus is on creating learning environments where people enjoy the process of making. With this strong foundation people can have the confidence and resilience to develop further skills. This website gives a taste of the work made over the course of Bristol Art For All. Myself and Rosa Hewitt began Bristol Art For All in 2015. In 2017 Rosa went to the University of Hertfordshire to study Art Therapy. She now works in London as an art therapist with children. I continued with the project in Bristol with the support of volunteers, building my knowledge, experience and skills by studying courses in teaching, facilitation, communication and social enterprise. As well as volunteering with Arts and Health organisations including Studio Upstairs, Bristol Art on Prescription, Workers Education Association (WEA), Milestones Expressions programme and St Mungos Recovery College where I currently run their online art class. I love being a catalyst for people to reconnect with their creativity. It is a great privilege to have worked with over 200 people across Bristol and beyond. Some have attended for years others for one session but all have been welcome and encouraged in their art making. I am currently in the process of making Bristol Art For All into an online art school to reach people who would otherwise struggle to access mainstream arts education. I am interested to connect with organisations, which work with clients who would benefit from exploring and developing their creativity with the support of being in a group.

I am a freelance designer-maker, applied artist, crafts-woman, whatever you want to call me – I stitch stuff by hand; fabric, metal, porcelain, leather, vitreous enamel.. . My work is various, it depends whether I am working for myself, to commission or collaborating with other artists. But whatever I do is slow to make; detailed hand stitching in any material whether in silk, linen, wool or wire takes time, consequently my work is also slow to evolve. I decided to show on this site what I do, who I am work with, how I work and also how I think. I want to show the work behind HER WORK not just the finished things. The journey from the first idea, searching, researching, drawing, sampling and eventually making the finished piece. You will be able to watch my work progress, or not; maybe by seeing this record people will come to value making that is manufactured by hand, heart and eye. In May 2010 I developed – Heart Space Studios ( from my yoga practice “Put your Hands in your Heart Space”) and for 5 years it was a space in Bristol England for all things textile. The activities at the studios can still be viewed – I closed the studio workshops in 2015 – the classes remain on this site as part of the blog, they contain many of my most popular posts….. Heart Space Studios continues as a group of makers who develop projects primarily for publishing companies. Most notably we work with designer Kaffe Fassett in the production of his patchwork quilt books and other fabrics.

You will spend the day using real forensic methods and techniques to perform a range of established crime scene investigations. All investigations that you perform are "hands-on", giving you the opportunity to learn how these procedures work in real life. Your day will include: DRUG TESTING: Perform a drugs test! The suspect was carrying a small plastic bag of a white substance when arrested. He was known to police as a cocaine dealer. Was he carrying cocaine? Carry out chemical tests to establish if the white powder was cocaine? FINGERPRINTING: Learn how to lift and record fingerprints using the conventional dusting process to detect and preserve fingerprints. MICROSCOPY: Use a light microscope to forensically examine crime scene samples. Discover how to use different magnifying powers to optimise the results. FABRIC SAMPLE ANALYSIS: Compare samples collected at the crime scene and on the suspect to identify human hairs. SOIL ANALYSIS: Analyse soil samples collected from the crime scene and compare against soil recovered from the suspect's shoes. Identify which soil sample is common between both crime scene and suspect. Use chemical tests to confirm your results. TOOL MARK IDENTIFICATION: You have a known tool impression from the crime scene. Use forensic casting techniques to create clay impressions and compare with a range of tools recovered from the suspect's tool shed. Which tool did he use? BLOOD DETECTION: Blood-like stains were found at the crime scene. Before sending samples to the forensic lab we need to establish if they are blood samples. Use established forensic tests and procedures to identify blood spots and stains that may not be visible to the naked eye. She has well over 15 years experience in the publishing industry, working for major publishers and literary agents too.  For twelve years, Lil was a Senior Commissioning Editor at Working Partners Ltd – the creatives behind massive commercial hits such as Beast Quest, Warriors and the Daisy Meadows series. There she created globally successful concepts for every age group and developed storylines so the books were unputdownable. Lil is also an author in her own right: she has written 6 books under her own name, and ghost written many others under various pseudonyms.  In every age level, Lil would like to see originality - particularly in voice. A strong character with depth, venturing on a quest that's never been undertaken before will get her excited. The 'quest' doesn't have to be epic in scale, it could be as small as petting the next-door neighbour's dog, or getting the good looking new kid to notice you, it just has to be something a reader will want to invest in. We will present in clear and simple terms the school’s duties under the Equality Act, help you guard against discrimination, and leave you with useful resources. How will this workshop help your school? This is a practical, "hands on" workshop designed to be engaging and constructive. Over and above helping your school fulfil its legal duties, it will help ensure that nobody is left behind or discriminated against. The workshop will show how all protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2010 can be reflected positively in everyday school life. It will consider real-life examples and make this more meaningful and relevant by inviting participants to bring their own examples of equality challenges in school. We will show you how to get the best out of CSIE’s toolkit ‘Equality: Making It Happen’ – a succinct and user-friendly set of reference cards to help schools promote equality – and leave you with at least two complimentary copies. Above all, the workshop will help develop a shared understanding and build a consistent response to diversity and equality.
