I BEGAN MY JOURNEY TO YOGA IN THE FITNESS INDUSTRY 25 YEARS AGO AND LIKE SO MANY OTHERS I EVENTUALLY FOUND MYSELF ON A YOGA MAT. I continued to explored my yoga practice with Iyengar, Bikram and Vinyasa yoga. Eventually I committed to my body, mind and practice which lead me to completing my Bikram Yoga Teacher training and a 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Teacher training with an "Outstanding" grade from the renowned teacher Claire Missingham followed by an Advanced 300 hour teacher training with Jason Crandell. My knowledge expanded with my Yin Yoga training with the amazing Sarah Powers and Post natal yoga with Nadia Narain. In January 2018 I completed my Inferno Hot Pilates training with the awesome Gabriella Walters, Level 1,2 and 3. My Yoga For All training with Dianne Bondy and Amber Karnes helped me to understand the greater need for classes to be accessible for everyone no matter what the shape or size of our bodies. Yoga is for everyone. I believe that yoga should be accessible for all abilities and all bodies, to help students feel comfortable in their own bodies, with their own practice through alignment, flexibility and strength in a playful and inclusive environment.

A short history of our North London Branch 2000 to present: Step Teachers are proud to have started out from 'The Shed' at the back of the garden of Mr & Mrs Georgiou's (Marios' parent) house in Southgate, North London. It didn’t take long for Marios, Jim and the team (which included his brother George, sister Angela, best friend from school Andrew, and Jim's brother-in-law Ben (our current Managing Director, Compliance Manager, Sales Director and Finance Director) to outgrow The Shed and move to Ashfield Parade in Southgate Circus, opposite the tube station. Barely 16 months later and the Step family were on the move once more; this time crossing the busy High Road to the rather grange building of The Grange. In April 2007, we went north across Southgate Circus and made our home in South Point House, above Southgate's once iconic Wimpy restaurant. Sadly it's now Paddy Power. After a decade, our tour of Southgate took us to Solar House, directly opposite St Andrew's C of E Primary School.

What is Yoga4Health? Yoga In Healthcare Alliance* (YIHA) is a UK-registered charity dedicated to integrating the benefits of yoga into healthcare. YIHA works with the NHS and other health professionals to support patients and help them make lifestyle changes. YIHA was commissioned by the NHS to create the 10-week Yoga4Health social prescribing programme which is delivered by Yoga4Health teachers, including me, in the UK and abroad. Paul Fox, Chief Operating Officer, YIHA says “The Yoga4Health programme is about empowering people to discover how much better they can feel by adopting a simple daily yoga practice. A large proportion of illness could be avoided or mitigated if people became more active and changed unhealthy behaviours for healthy ones. Activating patients to feel they are in control of their health and can take steps to boost their physical and mental wellbeing is key. At the same time, our programme aims to take them on a beautiful journey into their body, breath and mind to become more accepting, aware, mindful and kind to themselves. It is self-care by tapping into this powerful mind-body medicine: yoga”.

I’m Sally and since I discovered the many benefits yoga can bring to one’s life I have been a dedicated convert. In order to broaden and deepen my practice I undertook my teacher training course with Yoga London under the guidance of Silvia Pingazali and am now able to thankfully fill my days with yoga! Yoga has completely changed my approach to life and I am now reaping the benefits of a more mindful approach to every day living with the added benefits that a daily yoga practice brings of feeling comfortable and at ease with your body. I truly believe that the practise of yoga can enhance the lives of everybody no matter what age or level of fitness and I look forward to sharing yoga in the local community.
