This one-day course will introduce you to the principles of hand-crafted leatherwork through the making of your own hand-stitched, hand-dyed, leather belt. A hands-on course during which you will learn how to mark out, cut and dye veg tan leather to make a belt. You will then prepare it for stitching and practice the technique of saddle stitch. The course will also show you how to burnish the edges of the belt and finish the leather. The price includes tuition, use of the tools, the leather for the belt, and a buckle. Tea &amp; Coffee will be provided. Please bring your own lunch and any soft drinks/snacks you require. Closed-toe footwear should be worn. If you wish to protect your clothing (from dye etc.) please bring a suitable apron. As we use a stitching pony to hold the work we also recommend wearing trousers instead of a skirt or kilt. Learn an ancient technique, used by the Romans. It is very low tech and wonderful items of jewellery with a professional finish can be produced in a few hours. Students make moulds in plaster or cuttlefish to their own designs, then lead free pewter is poured into the moulds using hand gravity casting. The moulds can be reused to make pendants, earrings, brooches, keyrings and fridge magnets.
Due to Health and Safety precautions we are limiting class sizes to 8&nbsp;people, for all of our sessions, for the time being.&nbsp;
PPE (face shields, gloves and aprons) and hand sanitiser will be available&nbsp;for all of our workshops.

Join us for a day of dressmaking with our tutor Emma Smith.Emma has a wealth of dressmaking experience and teaches for sewing studios and pattern company retreats across the UK. &nbsp;&nbsp;
Learn how to adjust a printed pattern to fit you. &nbsp;Emma will teach you how to measure your body and create a toile/muslin in order to get a perfect fit to your bodice.

A very common adjustment is to allow for a larger bust. &nbsp;It is often known as a Full Bust Adjustment or FBA. &nbsp;Once you know how to make this alteration to your paper patterns your dressmaking will be transformed for ever!&nbsp;

You&rsquo;ll make a muslin/toile and then be able to make further adjustments to your pattern. &nbsp;Sheeting and pattern paper will be provided. &nbsp;You may wish to make the final version in your chosen fabric so bring along Lightweight cotton fabric, 150cm wide, 1.5m or 114cm wide, 1.8m to make the final garment.&nbsp;
If you have any questions please ask - otherwise book yourself on to a day of learning how to fit a bodice on yourself.Bring your sewing machine, basic sewing kit, fabric and lunch to nibble, we will keep you going with tea and cake! &nbsp;&nbsp;

Join us at Stitching Kitchen for a day of advanced dressmaking with our tutor Emma Smith. She will teach you how to adjust a bodice block to fit you - this can then be your jumping off point for tops and dresses from here on.  

Starting with a simple bodice block / sloper you will make adjustments to the calico mock up and then transfer these adjustments to create a bodice block which works for your body.

Make a Dachshund Workshop

You bought a sewing machine but haven&rsquo;t got to grips with it yet?&nbsp; This two and a half hour course is right up your street!&nbsp;
You can now extend your thread of knowledge with this sewing workshop for beginners. Join our experienced sewing tutor for this two and a half hour class offering an introduction to domestic sewing machines.
After getting to grips with threading, you&#39;ll also have the opportunity to explore different stitching techniques and seams, all with easy techniques provided by your host.&nbsp; We will also cover some trouble shooting and what are the typical problems which can occur.&nbsp;
During the second half of the workshop, we will focus on stitching techniques and make a coaster to take home
Once you have completed this class you will be ready to join us on either a quilting course or perhaps on some of the garment sewing workshops planned for 2024

Join us for this one-day online course and discover what makes quality teaching of history by exploring how to ensure coverage of the National Curriculum through practical creative methods, which will engage children in interactive methods which can be adopted and adapted for different age groups or themes, whilst ensuring progression and challenge for all. We will look at how to develop enquiry and secure a deep understanding of historical knowledge. There will be suggestions to encourage children to ask perceptive, historically valid questions, make careful observations and understand how historians use a range of sources of evidence in order to construct their interpretations of the past, as part of the recent focus on the development of disciplinary knowledge.
