Ruth Summers (she/her) has been creating bespoke glass art since 1998 and runs workshops teaching the skills of stained glass where you can create your own small copper foiled stained glass creation or unique sun-catcher which you can take home with you at the end of the day. * Half Day Taster Workshop – 3 hour (for 1 or ‘you & a friend’) * Full Day Workshop (for 1 or ‘you & a friend’) Prior to the workshop we will work together to design your glass piece so your pattern is ready to be brought to life on the day. We design and make decorative glass for various applications. Our studio facilities enable us to fuse glass, paint, stain & enamel, acid etch, sandblast, engrave, brilliant cut and lead work using the traditional methods. We also restore damaged church stained glass according to the UKIC (United Kingdom Institute of Conservation) guidelines. Rainbow Glass Studios was established in 2001. Between us we have decades of experience working in glass with various companies across Britain. We are often written about in the press and featured on TV.

Muna Zuberi - Glass ArtistI am a glass artist and make glass appliques, architectural and art stained glass, glass paintings, and drawings. I am always conscious of the history of the stained glass craft when designing new pieces but am reviving this ancient art form to create new and exciting contemporary pieces. Visually I am particularly interested in maps (both modern and historic), diagrams and aerial photographs and these have informed a lot of my work. These items are a visual representation of an area depicting the relationships between elements and objects in that space. They can show the way and highlight barriers and in this way give us a different perspective on the world to reveal things previously hidden. This additional vantage point helps us to explore and understand the world. I am also inspired by dalle-de-verre – a technique popular in the 1960s where glass billets are set in concrete to form windows. I combine different techniques such as glass painting, fusing and glass mosaic to create flat and sometimes 3D artworks. I am ‘mixed race’ and this has led me to think about wh

Originally from North Devon, I have lived and worked in various countries, particularly the Middle East and Mediterranean, and have been both influenced and inspired by the different cultures and architecture from my travels.  This combined with my keen interest in the environment, nature and the landscape, has provided me with the possibility of creating unique and individual pieces, whilst helping to preserve the natural beauty that surrounds us.   In 2003 I wanted these bright and cheerful mosaics to  withstand all weather conditions so through experimentation I developed this process.  My mosaic mirrors, panels and lamps and balls are designed for both indoor and all year garden display.   They can be used as wall panels – a feature among climbing plants, placed in a gloomy corner, floated on ponds and lakes, hung from trees or filled with solar lights all bringing a splash of colour to our dormant winter landscapes or creating a hint of “The Secret Garden’ beyond. I run a number of different courses and workshops every month to teach this uplifting and cheerful skill whether just as a day out with friends, learning a new hobby or wanting to  improve your skill.  Please contact me for more information.

Both courses are designed for students with some previous experience in stained glass or have already either completed a beginners course or attended a workshop. The course will focus on developing ideas and extending technical and artistic skills in design and stained glass execution. Students will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together and how to enhance your designs. Tools are included in the cost but materials will be an extra charge for materials. NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading – Evening (Mondays) 19th September (6 weeks) to 31st October, 6.30pm - 9pm | £210 materials and tools included NEW - Beginners Stained Glass Leading (Wednesdays) 28th September (5 weeks) to 2nd November, 2pm - 5pm | £210 materials and tools included This Short 5-week (6-week evening) course is designed for newcomers and beginners. Whether you are a complete novice or would like to practice your skills, you will be guided through the steps and skills needed to create a simple stained glass panel using traditional leading techniques. You will be encouraged to experiment and learn how different colours and glass types work together. You will produce a final leaded panel approximately 25cm x 25cm using coloured glass. The course will cover basic panel design, creating cutting template, selecting and cutting from a beautiful range of coloured glass, leading, soldering cementing and finishing techniques. One-Day Workshops An Introduction To The Colourful World Of Traditional Stained Glass One Day Workshop 9.30am – 5pm | Saturday 24th September | £145 This one-day taster course allows you to experience making a piece of traditional stained glass as a 20cm square panel to take home. This is a practical course, you will learn the basic construction process: cutting glass, putting a panel together with a lead, soldering, cementing and finishing. A choice of simple abstract designs will be available, as well as all the materials needed to create your stained glass piece.

My stained glass is designed to enrich the emotional experience of the viewer. I am interested in ideas. My stained glass is the result of thoughtful dedication as I explore less obvious ways to approach a design. My stained glass explores a use of an iconography, influenced by nature, combined with our deep-seated human need of ornamentation and decoration. I seek to marry harmony with visual stimulation. I seek to enhance, uplift and delight. I seek to create visual sanctuaries of respite from the stressful, chaotic world of today. I am fascinated by the idea of a ‘universal visual harmony’ and how it invokes feelings of positivity and well-being in the viewer. There is no formula for creating visual harmony and I am constantly seeking and exploring new solutions
