The Pioneer Sailing Trust

the pioneer sailing trust

London

Once it became apparent the complex restoration of Pioneer was possible, the decision was made to set up Pioneer Sailing Trust in 1999. The trust, whose founder trustees were Mary Falk, Charles Harker and Rupert Marks, is a registered charity. From day one practical help and funding has arrived in generous measure from many individuals, organisations and local businesses. Pioneer’s new purpose is to offer young people the challenge of sailing, which often proves to be a life changing experience. Pioneer has accommodation for three qualified crew and twelve trainees. As a powerful and strong sea going vessel, she is ideally suited for day sailing or passage work in the Thames estuary, across the North Sea or the English Channel. Being a crew member highlights and emphasises many vital qualities essential in life and the trust believes these practical and new experiences helps develop young people. The trust also opened Harker’s Yard in 2009 to further its work with training and education in the marine industry and provided opportunities for work experience and apprenticeships in marine engineering and boat building and repair. Pioneer Sailing Trust works closely with life development trusts, training agencies, councils, social services and other organisations devoted to improving the life prospects of young people, many of whom deal with difficult circumstances. Young people often find time at the trust opens new windows of opportunity.

Education Impact Academy Trust

Birmingham

I am delighted to have been appointed as CEO of Education Impact Academy Trust from 1st January 2022. I will be building on the great work of my predecessor, Steve Hughes. It is an exciting, but challenging, time for all of us working in this area but I know that by working together, we can make great things happen. Our purpose is to provide a wonderful education and improve the life chances of all the children and young people in our Trust. We will ensure that our children and young people are given a broad and balanced education which prepares them well for success in their future lives. We provide strong challenge and support to our Academies and work together in our aim of ensuring success for all. As a Trust we truly value the success of every child and young person and we place the sharing of excellent education practice at the core of this value. Professional development, challenge and support are at the heart of ensuring our staff can all reach their own personal bests for the benefit of the children and young people. Our Trust benefits significantly from the variety of schools within the Trust, enabling staff to benefit greatly from the opportunities we have for collaborative working. In addition, we are able to benefit tremendously from sharing best practice and the expertise we have within our organisation. It is vital that all of the schools improve because they are part of the Trust and that there are clear advantages to joining the Trust.

St Mary's Academy Trust

I would like to introduce myself, Melanie Priestley, Chief Executive of St. Mary’s Academy Trust. I am proud to lead our nine primary schools, which are based throughout Barnsley. I am passionate about supporting all of our schools in order to make a real difference to our local communities and to help them thrive. At St. Mary’s Academy Trust we inspire all of our children to have high aspirations and encourage them to see opportunities; not barriers or obstacles. We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that is tailored to meet the needs of our individual communities. We pride ourselves not only on high educational outcomes but on providing our children with a variety of experiences and opportunities, the resilience to face challenges and the skills to succeed. By enabling all of our children to realise that they have many choices open to them in life; we prepare them to step out into the world as responsible citizens with the Trust values and Christian ethos instilled within them. We believe our children can make a difference to society and our future. Our Trust does not stop at the school gate. It is our public duty to work alongside our local communities to ensure a better world for all. We have a collaborative approach to learning across our SMAT family and firmly believe that we all have a lot to learn from each other. We look after and support each other to improve in all aspects of what we do and provide people with the confidence, compassion and courage to succeed and be whoever they want to be. We work to instil a passion and pride in all those within our care – children, staff and families – for where they live and who they are. Our communities have many opportunities to offer us all. Our desire is to ignite a spark in all who work with us.
