Humans are by nature complex insular and self-protective. Conversely, they are
also extremely curious and impulsive. In our fast-paced technology led world the
art of the conversation is rapidly being side-lined in favour of the safety and
anonymity of email and text. But what when we find ourselves in the situation of
having a difficult conversation with a real human face to face? A recent study
by Globis, the Japanese Graduate School of Management, revealed that 53% of
respondents to their “Difficult conversations” survey consciously avoided any
conversation where there was a chance of conflict. The reasons provided were
lack of appropriate training and lack of experience. The need to reverse this
trend through education is both timely and relevant. We aim to provide quality
