Future Workforce Fund plays a significant role in our ability to support the emerging needs of young people, and provide a flexible, adaptive offer that will directly support the Greater Manchester Young Person’s Guarantee. The school is named after Cardinal William Allen, a Lancashire man, who was born in 1532 and is known to have lived as a young boy at Rossall near to the site of the school. His determination not to abandon his Catholic faith during the reign of Elizabeth I caused William to flee to the continent where he founded the English Seminary at Douai and the Venerable English College in Rome in order that young Englishmen could be trained as priests and return to England to keep alive the Catholic faith.

A multi-academy trust (MAT) is a single organisation established to improve and maintain high educational standards across a number of member schools. Who were the initial member schools of the MAT? The Bishop Fraser Trust was established in December 2017 with two outstanding schools in Bolton. Canon Slade School and St James’s CE High School came together as convertor academies with the ambition to secure best practice, uphold the positive aspects of tradition and a provide distinctive Christian education for our families. We were delighted to welcome Bolton St Catherine’s Academy in May 2018 as a sponsored academy and Bury Church of England High School joined us as a convertor academy in January 2022.
