Digital West Midlands

London

We are pleased to share that WMCA have now launched the West Midlands Digital Roadmap, which was unveiled recently at WM Venturefest. Please see the official press release below: WMCA unveils plan for region’s digital future The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) has launched its plan to give the region a digital reboot, with an aim to tackle digital exclusion, reach net zero and support a post-Covid recovery. The WMCA Digital Roadmap was presented at Venturefest West Midlands, one of the region’s top business events for digital entrepreneurs. This year’s keynote speaker was Ben Francis, the West Midlands-based founder of billion-dollar sportswear brand Gymshark. The plan outlines five missions to digitise the region, including becoming the UK’s best digitally connected region and increasing access to digital opportunities by tackling digital exclusion. The plan will build on the successes of the region’s 5G testbed and its innovation in transport, and make the most unique regional opportunities like HS2, the Commonwealth Games, and Coventry City of Culture. The Digital Roadmap was launched at Venturefest by Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands. He said: “This Roadmap sets out an ambitious plan for the West Midlands – to become a technologically advanced, forward looking digital economy, where everybody has access to the internet and data is used to improve our public services. Imbedding the latest technology into our economy will also help us reach net zero, where innovation still has a huge role to play in reducing the burden on us to change the way we live our lives. “Growth has been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, but despite the adversity, there is also opportunity. The pandemic has accelerated the switch to digital and highlighted the need for a better-connected economy. To bounce back, we must weave digital into the way we do business. This means more digital bootcamps to train us for the jobs of the future; more digital devices to connect our residents to opportunities; and more innovation to help us reduce our carbon footprint and save the planet.” The Roadmap has been developed over the last six months and has been approved by the WMCA Board. As well as aiming to make the West Midlands the most digitally connected region in the UK, the roadmap aims to address the issue of the ‘digital divide’. Since the start of the pandemic many firms have quickly adapted to their employees working from home and communicating online. However, lots of small business have struggled to adopt technology fast enough and some families have struggled with home schooling due to a lack of devices or unaffordable connections. The plan sets out to ensure the region remains number one in leadership on 5G, there will be an accelerated full fibre rollout, and 4G connectivity will be boosted. The roadmap highlights key sectors to support where the region is already globally competitive: Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) in Coventry; data-driven healthcare in Birmingham and Solihull, and the gaming industry’s ‘Silicon Spa’ in Warwickshire. Venturefest West Midlands was founded to provides entrepreneurs, investors and innovators to meet, engage and exchange ideas for co-operation and collaboration, particularly in the fields of science and emerging technologies. It is led by the WMCA along with local enterprise partnerships, universities and business organisations. Also speaking at the event was Kari Lawler who launched a start-up at the age of 14 and is also a member of the Young Combined Authority said: “Through my AI youth initiative, YOUTH4AI I have been able to communicate to young people the importance and possibilities of AI. “The West Midlands has a young population which will benefit from a decrease in the digital divide and an increase in digital connectivity.” Cllr Patrick Harley, WMCA portfolio lead for Culture and Digital and leader of Dudley Council said: “Digital connectivity is going to be vital to our economic recovery and harnessing digital innovation will enable economic growth for the next decade and beyond. “This roadmap will help us realise the potential of digital to transform our economy and build economic resilience, firmly putting the West Midlands on the map as the most digitally connected region.”

Brighter Futures @ Safer Places

brighter futures @ safer places

Essex

Safer Places (formerly known as Harlow Women’s Aid) has over 40 years’ experience in delivering holistic support services to adult and child survivors of Domestic Abuse across Essex and Hertfordshire. Over the years we have grown and adapted our services to meet the needs of the communities we serve. Domestic abuse has both a devastating and radiating impact and affects the survivor and their families, friends, colleagues and communities. Our team take a non-judgemental and respectful approach to their work and we will do all that we can to ensure that everyone who needs our services can use them, how they want to, when they want to, and where they want to. Domestic abuse does not discriminate and happens in every community. We are proud to work inclusively with anyone who has experienced abuse and our services are designed to reach everyone impacted by abuse. To do this we offer a range of services and work collaboratively with our partners in a range of venues. The support that we offer is holistic, trauma informed and individually tailored to each survivor as we know that although there are common behavioural patterns, not one experience is the same as any other and there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution. We know that survivor’s needs are better met when they are involved in creating solutions as equals so our support is co-produced alongside survivors. Our highly qualified staffs are there to empower survivors, giving them the knowledge and confidence to choose the steps on their journey to recovery. Many go on to achieve things they once thought of as impossible. The foundations of our organisation were built by survivors – as were the foundations of one of our refuges. A former project saw a number of survivors qualify as carpenters, bricklayers, painters, plasterers and amenity horticulturalists. The refuge now accommodates 10 families in separate self-contained flats built solely by survivors, for survivors. We recognise that if we are to see our vision materialise and help to create a world where everyone lives a life free from fear and abuse, we need to respond to abuse together, as one. Our training helps professionals and members of the community to recognise the signs of domestic abuse, understand the issues and respond quickly and effectively when a survivor chooses to access support. From short awareness sessions to full IDVA and ISAC qualifications we are committed to sharing our experience and what works to make more families safer. Safer Places vision is a society where everyone lives a life free from fear and abuse Mission Safer Places exist to drive down the incidence and impact of domestic and sexual abuse and to support those who use our services in their journey to recovery, resilience and independence. Values These are the values we promise to uphold so we never loose sight of our mission: Client Led – We empower our clients to exercise choice and control of their support. We ensure client’s voices are heard and that they impact our decision making and shape our services Accessible – We work inclusively with our clients, partners and communities. Anyone who is at risk of experiencing abuse can access our services when, how and where they need them. Respectful – We adopt a trauma informed, holistic approach to support. We listen and believe, are non-judgemental and open and honest about what we can and cannot do. Effective – We deliver high quality services that work for our clients. Our practice is informed by our clients, research, evidence and learning from experts by experience.

The City Of Edinburgh Music School

the city of edinburgh music school

Edinburgh

One year ago today, we were not sure how we would be delivering educational experiences for our students. Two years ago, the situation was even worse as we were not sure whether we would be able to offer anything meaningful at all in person. The relative normality of this year’s first day of school brings reassurance and joy. So far it seems that everyone has grown over the summer, and our returners look more confident and poised than they did six weeks ago. No doubt they have many stories to share, much better in person than through the various social media platforms that they have been inhabiting. Our new S1 students are excited about starting this new phase in their lives. A few have had to ask for directions to classes, but good for them that they have the confidence to do so. They will bring much to the future of our school and in the blink of an eye they will be in S6 preparing for the next phase. Being Part of the Community The vast majority of our students are showing their pride in being part of the Broughton High School community by wearing school uniform and dress code. That is part of their contribution to their school, and is most welcome. I would emphasise that although school uniform is much less expensive than the designer clothing that teenagers might choose to wear, we are keen to support families who are struggling with the cost of clothing. The best way to access this is via our guidance team, through either a direct phone call or an email to school reception. Academic Success More detailed information will be forthcoming, but I am absolutely delighted to share that the attainment gained by our S4-S6 students last year was outstanding. Despite the many challenges that they had to face, they contributed to the best set of SQA results that the school has ever seen. Better than the exam-free years of 2020 and 2021. Better than any year since statistics have been recorded in the current format. This is particularly remarkable, given that the national pass rates have actually declined this year. This level of academic success is not just down to ability but comes as a result of many factors: hard work and resilience; support from parents and carers; and untiring high quality teaching and regard from staff are some. A massive well done from me and the whole school staff to those young people. Senior Staffing News We welcome Mrs Lisa Evans to our school senior leadership team. Mrs Evans has been a curriculum leader in another Edinburgh school for the past eight years, and was previously an English teacher at Broughton. I am delighted that Mrs Evans is back in the Broughton HS family and we look forward to great things. Recently we also welcomed Mr Steven Frew back to Broughton HS after a few years as a curriculum leader in East Lothian. Mr Frew joined us just before the end of the summer term in the role of Senior Development Officer. One of his key roles is to explore the diversity in our school community and make the most of the opportunities that this provides. This will be fascinating and will provide further impetus to cohesion and success in our school. Mr Frew was also previously with us as a Business Education teacher. It speaks volumes for Broughton HS that staff who have progressed in their career are keen to re-join us further down the line. I am pleased to inform you that Mrs Shona Wallace, Depute Headteacher, has been appointed on an acting basis to the Headship of Craigroyston Community High School. Mrs Wallace will work hard – as she always does – to support the community at Craigroyston. We wish her well, and look forward to her return in the latter part of the academic year. Finally, I would like to thank our parental community for the support you give to our school. We will keep trying together to make things as good as possible for our young people. Most of the time we get it right, and long may that continue. John J Wilson Headteacher *********** Broughton High School aspires to be a learning community known for its excellent learning and teaching. We maximise student achievement; provide support, welfare and inspiration. We are committed to continual improvement. Our students will be confident, successful and able to contribute effectively and responsibly to society. They should foster an interest in life long learning. We are a consistently improving organisation. Our core values are the same - respect, inclusion and integrity in all that we do. Tolerance and a willingness to learn about other cultures have been at the heart of Scottish education for centuries. By embracing the Scottish tradition and developing through a curriculum for excellence we hope to develop as truly global citizens. Broughton High School is developing as a centre of excellence in the wider community with our business partners and neighbours utilising the building during and beyond the school day. The development of partnership working is important to us and we actively pursue their development. In school, it goes without saying that we provide a secure and healthy environment, but we aim for much more. We aspire to personal excellence at all times. In every classroom, on the playing fields, through every note played in the Music School we aim for the highest standards. These can only be achieved if the whole school community works in partnership.

Nuroo

nuroo

London

Nuroo was founded initially in July 2013 out of the desire to recognise the harsh challenges faced by nurses in their daily practice, but also to horn the joys of this rewarding career. It was changed from a community group to a business entity in September 2020 thanks to the hard work of some very talented individuals and the support of its members at the time. Our name comes from the compound word “Nurses’ Room” which is often used interchangeably with Nurses’ Station to describe an area of a healthcare facility where nurses and other healthcare workers perform their administrative duties when they are not in direct patient contact. We’re as unique as our name and the organisations we actively seek to support. This is because, steeped in experience gathered across the varied worlds of academia, business turnarounds, healthcare and strategy, Nuroo Leaders bring more than fifty years of combined effort, as well as social care delivery and compliance brain power to the table. We have assembled a number of clinical documentations from admission to discharge to help you prepare for and improve your CQC inspection rating. The initiative is designed to promote high-quality documentation that not only support the capture of the patient’s disease burden accurately in all healthcare settings, but also the appropriateness of nursing interventions and quality of care provided to the patient by ensuring all the information within the health record is of high quality and supports informed decision-making. We’ve also partnered with other well-recognised companies and talented care professionals that work tirelessly to give our valued clients the very best service available in the social care sector. So, whether you’re looking for staff training or/and preparing for your CQC inspection, it is important that you are able to demonstrate compliance with the regulators by making sure that you can evidence this with appropriate documentation, including clinical records and relevant up-to-date policies. The good news is that’s where Nuroo comes in! Nuroo is that little extra oomph when you need it, helping you to reset your inspection goals, put the one-speed gearbox of your documentation into drive, and gently press on the accelerator so that your inspection engine is back into motion towards the right direction of demonstrable care quality What’s more, Nuroo’s Clinical Documentation is created by nurses and for nurses, not just to prevent valuable time and effort being wasted on unnecessary paperwork, but also to ensure that interventions and actions implemented contribute to desired results. High-quality clinical documentation across the continuum of healthcare can be recognized in the analogy of a cruise. Just as patients rely on numerous providers and healthcare professionals to maintain a good state of health, passengers on a cruise ship rely on numerous crew members to ensure they have smooth sailing and stay on course. The anchor on a cruise ship can hold the ship in a certain location or be raised when the ship is sailing. Sometimes patients will be at one location for their care and the documentation is the anchor that provides the information needed for the healthcare teams to stay on course. When patients are discharged or complete a provider visit, they may see another provider in a separate location and setting. The new provider will rely on the documentation from the previous encounter to guide their medical decision-making. Each episode of care should therefore include documentation that clearly supports each new episode of care. Because like the anchor, the documentation supports a comprehensive view of the care provided for any single encounter, it may stop when the patient’s encounter or admission is over, but it is a clear record of each encounter. We are Nuroo, a membership organisation born out of the desire to recognise the harsh challenges faced by nurses in their daily practice, but also to horn the joys of this rewarding career. We represent the professional interests of our members and offer free, confidential advice and support on various matters including unpaid wages, work suspensions; NMC allegations; whistleblowing; discrimination, bullying, and harassment at work; career development; and much more. Our name comes from the compound word “Nurses’ Room” which is often used interchangeably with Nurses’ Station to refer to an area of a healthcare facility where nurses and other healthcare workers perform their administrative duties when they are not in direct contact with patients. We are as unique as our name and the people we actively seek to support. This is because nuroo refers to nurses’ ability to find balance within two opposing forces. Indeed, the daily routines of nurses are rarely the same as they are always on the front line interacting with people who are in stressful situations while having to react appropriately to emergencies and unexpected events. Not surprisingly, throughout history nurses have been a glowing light in some very dark days and despite entering the coronavirus pandemic understaffed, undervalued and underpaid, the skills, knowledge, and resilience of nurses across all disciplines and settings have been showcased beyond words as they work tirelessly in the most testing, bizarre and unusual circumstances. While it’s almost impossible to portray a typical day for a nurse, given how different healthcare workplaces can be, and how work can vary from shift to shift depending on which patient a nurse needs to see, there’s a constant expectation for nurses to step up to more – whatever this may be and regardless of their own personal challenges. The good news is that’s where Nuroo comes in! Nuroo is that little extra oomph when you need it, helping you put the one-speed gearbox into drive and pressing the accelerator so that you can set your career engine back into motion towards the right direction. It provides a safe place where nurses can step aside, offload, take a deep breath, recharge, learn from each other, advance and go beyond the call of duty. It is created by nurses and for nurses to help each other stay up to date with new research findings so that they can re-evaluate whether or not their current knowledge has relevance to their work, and avoid the risk of practicing in a way that’s either ineffective or even deleterious to patient care. Certainly, no one wants to waste valuable time and effort performing tasks that don’t contribute to desired outcomes. But to turn the tide so that we nurses can better appreciate and utilize information from research, there needs to be a completely different approach to networking – one that truly allows for both group and one-to-one input. Nuroo is determined to deliver on this agenda so that you feel impacted as a member. WHY WE ARE DIFFERENT. Our services are not for everybody! They’re for achievers: people who are resilient, bold, want to excel in their career, be of service, and make a real difference. If this sounds like you, then sit tight coz we’ve got you covered! With the assortment of care settings, it would be detrimental to the patient if a provider only considered the care that was provided in one setting to guide their medical decision-making. By using Nuroo’s Clinical Documents, you are taking a positive step towards effective record keeping which can turn the tide in CQC inspection drastically, especially in some key areas like respecting service users, seeking consent, ensuring care and welfare, safeguarding, and assessing and monitoring the quality of the service provision – all viewed by CQC inspectors as particularly important.

Business Resilience Fundamentals

By IIL Europe Ltd

In our VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world, organizational resilience is key to adapting, surviving, and thriving. The world is experiencing a level of disruption and business risk not seen in generations. Some companies freeze and fail, while others innovate, advance, and even thrive. The difference is resilience. As crises become more frequent, the ability to thrive in crises is now essential. The Oxford English Dictionary defines resilience - in an organizational context - as 'the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties'. A resilient business is one which is capable not of just withstanding shocks and disruptions in the business environment, but also capable of adapting to and taking advantage of them. It is more than simply bouncing back after a crisis or being an agile organization. Business Resilience Fundamentals training and supporting certification are underpinned by the publication BUSINESS RESILIENCE: A practical guide to sustained progress delivered at pace. It provides a cohesive, practical guide to building business resilience, enabling leaders to implement an effective framework in an inclusive and sustainable way. Participants will be guided on implementing and adapting a range of tools to build and enhance organizational resilience. This course will help participants to ensure their organization is better prepared for the next crisis and to anticipate fluctuations in the business environment to take advantage.
