Barnes Common Limited formed in 1992 and has been a not-for-profit, limited liability company with charitable status since April 2013. For decades known as Friends of Barnes Common, the charity changed its name in 2022 to Barnes Common Limited (BCL) to reflect its evolving nature and help further growth. It is heavily involved in conservation, community and education engagement. Vine Road Recreation Ground is currently in the consultation phase of a proposed major enhancement of the site. Today, the charity is overseen by a Board of Directors and Management Committee. We have an active, growing membership, many of whom are part of our dedicated and invaluable team of volunteers.

SHRUB Cooperative (formerly the Swap and Reuse Hub Cooperative (Edinburgh) Ltd) was registered as the UK’s first student-­led community co­operative. It was established as a not for profit company limited by guarantee in March 2013. As of November 2018, we are registered as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), meaning we have charitable status. A large proportion of our members are students, mostly from the University of Edinburgh (UoE) but our membership is becoming increasingly diverse, incorporating individuals from a range of ages and backgrounds in the local community. We no longer describe ourselves as “student-led”, but instead we are “community-led”.

EEO aims to meet the needs of people who face barriers to participation in education because of factors such as cost, location or timing of courses. Established in June 2014, we believe it is important for young people, to be informed about criminal laws that could affect them. We believe that if they understand criminal offences, the risks and consequences of certain activities, police powers and their rights as individuals this will help them to make better decisions, and prevent them becoming involved in the criminal justice system.
