It will also give tips about what hospices need to be doing to be compliant. John Brady John is a highly experienced fundraising manager and leader with over 25 years of experience, the last 20 being at the most senior level in the organisation worked in. Working as a Senior Leader, Executive Director or Chief Executive he has a wide range of experience of managing and leading teams, strategic development, financial analysis, fundraising compliance and management of a broad range of fundraising specialisms such as Events, Trusts and Foundations, Corporate, Charity Retail, Individual Giving and Legacies, with specialist experience within Individual Giving. That has included introducing or developing regular giving programmes, managing gaming products such as society weekly lotteries and raffles, developing or creating direct mail programmes and telephone campaigns. John’s first professional fundraising role was as Divisional Manager at the British Lung Foundation (now Asthma and Lung UK) and has worked for a number of other charities including, Alcohol Focus Scotland, Sense Scotland, Erskine, and as Chief Executive of OneKind. John’s last role was at St Andrew’s Hospice where he led income growth in Individual Giving by leading the introduction of an Appeals programme and the tripling of the Lottery to £1.1 million per year. John joined the sector in 1998 following the death of his younger brother at a young age due to stomach cancer. This instilled in John a passionate belief about the difference charities can make to making the world a better place somehow. John champions ethical fundraising and so joined the Chartered Institute of Fundraising becoming chair of the Institute of Fundraising in Scotland and was made a Fellow in 2016. He was a member of several committees and working groups focussing on reviewing and enhancing fundraising regulation and compliance. He has been a Board member of the Hospice Income Generation Network and Enable Scotland and is currently Chair of Enable Trustee Services.

Formal mindfulness is better known as meditation. It involves following established practices taking time out of your day to be still and silent, to focus on your breath, to be aware of sounds, senses, thoughts and feelings. It can also involve totally clearing the mind. Informal mindfulness requires no conventions. It simply means bringing mindful awareness to everyday life, to daily activities such as eating, walking, driving and housework. Informal mindfulness is also part of your interactions with other people, at work, at home and in your social life. People have been practising mindfulness for thousands of years. It is stated it originated from ancient Buddhist, Hindu, Chinese and Tao Te Ching philosophies. However, some may suggest that it has its roots in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. To give an idea of dates; Buddhism was founded around 400-500 BC by Siddhartha Gautama who was referred to as the Buddha. My feeling is that I am just grateful for all those who have practised before us from all corners of the world, inviting this practice into my life to bring calm into the chaos. 'The role of such mindfulness practices is to keep the mind properly grounded in the present moment, decreasing reactivity to what happens in the moment. It is a way of relating to all experience - positive, negative and neutral - such that overall levels of suffering are reduced and a sense of wellbeing is increased' (Germet & Fulton, 2005). Today there are a variety of definitions within the Eastern and Western approaches. We are indebted to Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn for bringing the benefits of mindful practice to the West through his Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programme (based on a type of Buddhist meditation called Vipassana). Dr Kabat-Zinn defined it as 'paying attention with purpose, non-judgemental and while in the present moment' (Kabat-Zinn, 1994, 2005). Over the years, I personally have benefited physically and mentally from mindfulness by: making time for 'non-doing' allowing me to be still enough to tap into my 'inner voice' living my experiences in a non-judgemental way, accepting as it is, letting go of my need to 'control' bringing moment to moment awareness to my physical body, thoughts, feelings and emotions What I have learned is that Life happens all around us; sometimes we can select what we experience and other times the experiences are a natural part of life. Either way, mindfulness practice has supported me to recognise the difference if I only honour myself enough by giving time to do mindfulness/meditation practice. Mindfulness is a way of life, a choice of behaviour and thinking. WHAT IS THE UNIVERSAL LAW OF ATTRACTION (LOA) Main Health Benefit: Learn to listen to your Inner Coach, not your Inner Critic In accordance with the Law of Attraction, you attract into your life those things, circumstances and conditions that correspond with the nature of your dominant, habitual thoughts and beliefs, both conscious and subconscious. The basic premise of the LOA is that like energy attracts like energy. The belief is that as we came from ‘source energy’ in order to attract what we want, we have to resonate with the energy of the Universe’s vibration by feeling, thinking and visualising our wants/purpose in life. However, taking specific action is always needed. As our focus is on LOA the more general lesson is that being positive, proactive and loving attracts more of the same into your life. Meanwhile pessimism, fear and lethargy will lead to a more negative experience in all aspects of life. By working to live more positively even just today, you’re already using the LOA to create a better existence. There are however 12 spiritual Laws of the Universe which are a network of interconnected spiritual laws that can impact on every aspect of your life. These laws can be used to assist in Law of Attraction work. WHAT IS NATURE THERAPY Main Health Benefit: Boost your immune system with relaxed mind and body. My name is Steph. I’m delighted you’ve found your way here to my website. So here it goes, a little about me and how I discovered this magic thing called yoga… To be honest, yoga wasn’t something I had given much thought to before I happened to find myself in the middle of a yoga class. After years of inactivity and sitting in an office chair staring at a computer nine to five, I remember how challenging my first class was. I had no idea what to expect, what I was doing or even why I was there. But, something about it brought me back the next week, and the next, and the next… Simply showing up changed everything! Do yoga with Steph at Three Towns Yoga Yoga was an unexpected discovery that took me completely by surprise. With each practice, it gradually became more and more a part of my life. My yoga practice helps me know myself better and helps keep me present and grounded as I continually search for balance in my life. Teaching and sharing what I’ve discovered about yoga so far is a real privilege and I’m dedicated to learning more so I can share it with you. I’ve been able to practise and learn with many wonderful teachers who have helped me discover more about this amazing practice. I completed my 200 hour yoga teacher training qualification with CYS Glasgow at Merchant City Yoga. I’ve studied with Bernie Clark, completing a further 50 hour Yin Yoga teacher training course. I practise regularly under the expert eye of my teacher Judi Farrell at Merchant City Yoga and assist her in the ‘Mysore’ room. I’ve also practised and learned with a host of amazing teachers including Rose Ann McKean, Siobhan Fitzgerald, David Keil, Scott Johnson, David Robson, Peg Mulqueen, Jacinta McBurnley, Taylor Hunt and James Boag. In teaching and sharing yoga, I hope to open the door to possibility, discovery and change for others with the same care and compassion as it was opened for me.
