Overview This course provides an explanation of the underlying concepts of the Risk-Based Maintenance approach, guidance on its relationship and integration within asset management and the overall risk management process. This course will show delegates how to develop an action plan for implementation into an effective and cost-efficient maintenance strategy.

The IMI Light Vehicle Inspection Technician Accreditation is for experienced mechanics who would like to gain recognition for their skills and knowledge. It is also accepted by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) as the stage 1 entry qualification for mechanics and technicians who wish to train to become an MOT Tester for class 4 and 7 vehicles (cars and vans) It is normally valid for 3 years and successful candidates, as well as receiving a certifcate, photo card and pin badge, will also be entered on to the IMI Professional Register. This is a public-facing register to showcase individuals working in the motor industry, who have been recognised for their experience, professionalism and commitment to ethical working practices. However, there will be no requirement for you to re-accredit if you go on to complete your IMI Level 2 Award in MOT testing (classes 4 & 7) within the 3 year period. As an Inspection Technician you must be able to work unsupervised – ideally, you should be in full time employment with at least 3 years experience (4 years if you wish to become an MOT tester) to ensure you are familiar with the techniques for vehicle servicing, inspection and system(s) diagnosis. There are 5 practical assessments for this route and two online exams, one containing 30 questions and a second containing 10 questions. The assessments will take place over a 5 day period with the online assessment taking place mid week to allow for any re-sits that may be necessary. You will receive a copy of Tom Denton’s 4th edition Advanced Automotive Fault Diagnosis book which you can use in the intervening period to study and practice your knowledge and skills prior to attending the course. PLEASE NOTE THESE ASSESSMENTS ARE TO A LEVEL 3 STANDARD AND ARE DESIGNED TO BE TOUGH. THEY CONCENTRATE ON FAULT FINDING WITHIN A GIVEN TIMESCALE. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES WILL FIND ALL OF THE FAULTS WITHIN 1 HOUR. The delegates are able to demonstrate: The participants are able to demonstrate knowledge of hazards and risks associated with working at height specific to a wind turbine generator (WTG) (L2 – Knowledge) The participants are able to demonstrate understanding of current national and regional legislation regarding working at height (L2 – Knowledge) The participants are able to demonstrate correct identification of PPE, including identification of Global and regional standard markings e.g. harness, hard hat, lanyards, etc. (L3 – Skills) The participants are able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to correctly perform pre-use inspection, service, store and correctly fit relevant PPE, e.g. harness, fall arrest lanyards, guided type fall arrest lanyards and work positioning lanyards (L2 – Knowledge & L3 – Skills) The participants are able to demonstrate correct use of the relevant PPE, e.g. harnesses fall arrest lanyards, guided type fall arresters and work positioning lanyards. This includes correct identification of anchor points and correct conduct on ladder (L3 – Skills) The participants are able to demonstrate correct use of evacuation devices (L3 – Skills) The participants are able to demonstrate how to approach rescue situations in WTGs and use rescue equipment efficiently (L3 – Skills & Ability)

Throughout the week, students practise and demonstrate a broad range of practical therapeutic skills under close supervision and rigorous on-going assessment by the two tutors and experienced facilitators. Students who have already successfully graduated from the course enthuse about how useful and enriching it is. Between Part 2 and Part 3 of the Diploma students are expected to carry out extensive therapeutic practice, with a minimum of 10 different people, under ongoing supervision. It covers all of the core elements required to build confidence when managing others including how to set and manage goals for individuals and teams, communicate effectively, give timely feedback in the right way and create conditions for productive working.

Understand the principles of the “Visual Factory”, basic “Visual Management Systems” and how to apply it to your working environment This workshop introduces the tools and practices of Visual Management as one of the basic components of a Lean Management System. It shows how it can be used effectively to support standardization and problem solving across all functions, allowing the detection of product and process abnormalities in your value stream in real time. It also serves as a communication tool by visually defining for people what "good" is, what the "standard" is, and whether it is being maintained. It allows a proactive approach to data gathering, leading to rapid data analysis, and aids decision making that results in corrective actions being taken in a cost effective way. To achieve this, the workshop looks at how to identify critical product and process information, how to record and display it, who needs to see it, and how does it lead to action that resolves a problem or a non-conformance when it occurs. The workshop also details the principles used in designing and implementation a "Visual Management System" in order to migrate your organization from one of gathering and analysing data, and reacting to abnormalities, to one of seeing waste, managing exceptions, and improving processes in real time.
