Week 1 Capture, technical notes, discussions, art context Understand the fundamentals of light and time in balancing an accurate exposure; No longer be a slave to the Auto setting! Learn how to utilise the Manual functions of your 35mm SLR camera including aperture, shutter speed, film speed and metering. Understand depth of field, composition and creative photo-making techniques; Appreciate photography within an art context – Begin to look at the work of other photographers Assignment: You will be given one roll of B&W film to be shot for the second week Week 2 Film processing Learn how to process B&W film by hand in Stills’ darkrooms. We will discuss different film types and chemistry, as well as best practice procedures for film handling. Appreciating photography within an art context-Sally Mann. Week 3 Contact Printing Gain an appreciation of general darkroom procedures;understand how to set up your enlarger and make a contact print using the traditional analogue method; learn how to make 8×10″ work prints using the single filter printing method. All paper and chemistry will be provided. Week 4 Darkroom printing This last session will allow participants to keep on printing with some one to one attention. We will also explore some basic dodging and burning and other printing techniques to get the most from your negatives and make a series of final prints. Courses are subject to minimum enrolment. General Guidance Notes for Pregnant and Breast Feeding Women and Asthmatics: From a risk assessment standpoint, provided all necessary control measures (such as good working practices, adequate ventilation, and the use of appropriate PPE) are in place then pregnant and breastfeeding women should be able to continue to work safely with photochemical products.Inhalation is the main route by which fumes and gases enter the body, making good ventilation a high priority. Exposure to irritant chemicals that would not affect most people may provoke an asthma attack in a person who already has asthma. For example, low levels of the gas sulphur dioxide can be produced by some ILFORD PHOTO processes. Most individuals would be unaffected but asthmatics may suffer adverse affects. ILFORD PHOTO products include no known human carcinogens, and no substances to which phrase R46 (May cause heritable genetic damage) or R64 (May cause harm to breastfed babies) applies. Most ILFORD PHOTO developers use hydroquinone, and their classification therefore includes R40 (Limited evidence of a carcinogenic effect) and R68 (Possible risk of irreversible effects). Some ILFORD PHOTO chemicals use boric acid or borates. These substances are classified as toxic for reproduction. As a result, the classification of some of the powder developers includes R60 (May impair fertility) and R61 (May cause harm to the unborn child).
Course Overview Teaching the theory and practise of suicide intervention skills that can be applied in any professional or personal setting, captured in a one-day event accredited by City and Guilds of London. We use only the most experienced suicide prevention trainers to deliver this unique learning experience: for anyone who seeks greater understanding and confidence to intervene with people at risk of suicide. The Suicide First Aid through Understanding Suicide Intervention (SFAUSI) course gives learners the knowledge and tools to understand that suicide is one of the most preventable deaths and some basic skills can help someone with thoughts of suicide stay safe from their thoughts and stay alive. Course Content SFAUSI is comprised of 4 parts, each 90 minutes duration. The programme teaches and practices the skills and knowledge needed to identify someone who may be thinking about suicide and competently intervene to help create suicide- safety as a first aid approach. Project Management Metrics, Key Performance Indicators, and Dashboards: On-Demand The ultimate purpose of metrics and dashboards is not to provide more information, but to provide the right information to the right person at the right time using the correct media and in a cost effective manner. This is certainly a challenge. As computer technology has grown, so has the ease by which information can be generated and presented to management and stakeholders. Today, everyone seems concerned about information overload. Unfortunately, the real issue is non-information overload. In other words, there are too many useless reports which cannot easily be read and which provide readers with too much information, much of which may have no relevance. We are now struggling to find better ways of communicating. Our focus today is on the unique needs of the receiver of the information. The need to make faster and better decisions mandates better information. Humans have a variety of ways by which they can absorb information. We must address all of these ways in the selection of the metrics and the design of the dashboards. The three most important words in a stakeholder's vocabulary are, 'Making informed decisions.' This is usually the intent of effective stakeholder relations management. Unfortunately, this cannot be accomplished without an effective information system based upon meaningful and informative metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs). For decades we believed that the only information that needed to be passed on to the client and the stakeholders were information related to time and cost. Today, we realize that true project status cannot be determined from time and cost alone. Each project may require its own unique metrics and key performance indicators. The future of project management may very well be metric-driven project management. Information design has finally come of age. Effective communications is the essence of information design. Today, we have many small companies that are specialists in information design. Larger companies may maintain their own specialist team and call these people graphic designers, information architects or interaction designers. These people maintain expertise in the visual display of both quantitative and qualitative information necessary for informed decision-making. Traditional communications and information flow has always been based upon tables, charts and indexes that were hopefully organized properly by the designer. Today, information or data graphics combines points, lines, charts, symbols, images, words, numbers, shades and a symphony of colors to convey the right message easily.
