This one hour evening workshop will help you to start the process of thinking about what you want to do (e.g: major repairs, improved access, reordering to create flexible space, installing toilets or a kitchenette) and the initial steps to take towards developing it into a viable project. We'll also look at the different types of funders you might want to consider applying to for a grant. Please note numbers are limited to allow everyone a chance to tak and share their ideas.

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, MG, YA, ADULT FICTION Clare Wallace joined the Darley Anderson Agency in January 2011 and is building both the Darley Anderson Children’s Agency and the Darley Anderson Illustration Agency lists as well as taking on adult fiction for debut authors. Clare is particularly looking for funny chapter books for younger readers at the moment, as well as contemporary MG, YA fantasy, romance, and rom coms, especially with underrepresented protagonists. For picture books she has the widest taste, from daft to lyrical, rhyming to prose. As well as being busy with the children’s and illustration agencies, Clare is open to debut adult fiction submissions that could be described as book club, rom-com, romance, saga, reading group, fantasy or historical fiction. She often doesn’t know what she’s looking for until she finds it (although she is not the person for steampunk or space opera). She represents picture books, middle-grade, teenage and YA and debut adult fiction. The clients Clare represents include Perdita & Honor Cargill, Caroline Crowe, Tom Ellen, Martyn Ford, Stewart Foster, Olivia Hope, A M Howell, Polly Ho-Yen, Rachel Ip, Beth Reekles, J.P. She loves to discover memorable new characters, bold and unique voices, strong concepts and gripping storytelling. LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, CHAPTER BOOKS, MG, YA Lil is a Senior Editor at Hachette Children's. She has well over 15 years experience in the publishing industry, working for major publishers and literary agents too.  For twelve years, Lil was a Senior Commissioning Editor at Working Partners Ltd – the creatives behind massive commercial hits such as Beast Quest, Warriors and the Daisy Meadows series. There she created globally successful concepts for every age group and developed storylines so the books were unputdownable. Lil is also an author in her own right: she has written 6 books under her own name, and ghost written many others under various pseudonyms.  In every age level, Lil would like to see originality - particularly in voice. A strong character with depth, venturing on a quest that's never been undertaken before will get her excited. The 'quest' doesn't have to be epic in scale, it could be as small as petting the next-door neighbour's dog, or getting the good looking new kid to notice you, it just has to be something a reader will want to invest in. She also loves humour and is happy to see anything quirky (perhaps even downright silly!).  For picture books, Lil would like you to submit a covering letter, and 1 complete manuscript, double-spaced, with spreads marked out, in a single word or PDF doc. Training & Networking - Getting ready for the NEW Code of Fundraising Practice This session highlights the main changes in the NEW Code of Fundraising Practice that comes into effect on 1 Nov 2025. It will also give tips about what hospices need to be doing to be compliant. John Brady John is a highly experienced fundraising manager and leader with over 25 years of experience, the last 20 being at the most senior level in the organisation worked in. Working as a Senior Leader, Executive Director or Chief Executive he has a wide range of experience of managing and leading teams, strategic development, financial analysis, fundraising compliance and management of a broad range of fundraising specialisms such as Events, Trusts and Foundations, Corporate, Charity Retail, Individual Giving and Legacies, with specialist experience within Individual Giving. That has included introducing or developing regular giving programmes, managing gaming products such as society weekly lotteries and raffles, developing or creating direct mail programmes and telephone campaigns. John’s first professional fundraising role was as Divisional Manager at the British Lung Foundation (now Asthma and Lung UK) and has worked for a number of other charities including, Alcohol Focus Scotland, Sense Scotland, Erskine, and as Chief Executive of OneKind. John’s last role was at St Andrew’s Hospice where he led income growth in Individual Giving by leading the introduction of an Appeals programme and the tripling of the Lottery to £1.1 million per year. John joined the sector in 1998 following the death of his younger brother at a young age due to stomach cancer. This instilled in John a passionate belief about the difference charities can make to making the world a better place somehow. John champions ethical fundraising and so joined the Chartered Institute of Fundraising becoming chair of the Institute of Fundraising in Scotland and was made a Fellow in 2016. He was a member of several committees and working groups focussing on reviewing and enhancing fundraising regulation and compliance. He has been a Board member of the Hospice Income Generation Network and Enable Scotland and is currently Chair of Enable Trustee Services.

LOOKING FOR: CHILDREN'S: PICTURE BOOK TEXTS, NON-FICTION, POETRY Lucy Brownridge is Editorial Director at Wide Eyed Editions and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, and formerly Thames & Hudson where she helped to establish the Children’s list. She specialises in highly illustrated picture books and non-fiction (including poetry) for children. She has commissioned and edited books which have gone on to win the Carnegie Awards, The British Book Awards, the Klaus Flugge Prize, the Blue Peter Prize and have been translated into over 30 languages. She has been editor to Alan Ahlberg, Quentin Blake, Mariajo Ilustrajo, Yuval Zommer and Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho among many others. She is the author of The Fantastical Safari and The Cat Family series, and many other books for children. She is interested in the history of illustrated children’s books and is always looking for innovative ways to use the book format.
