Our home is in Gloucestershire but we reach rural writers all over the UK and beyond. Dialect is here to develop talent, connect with communities and offer rural writers opportunities to share their work. Our Story Dialect launched quietly in July 2020 with an online Summer School of taster workshops. A programme of workshops around Stroud Book Festival followed, along with regular critique workshops, courses, a Writer In Residence scheme in partnership with Lake 32 and an Arts Council funded mentoring scheme. We are now offering regular courses focused on the craft of writing and immersive writing workshops in intriguing rural locations. Dialect is now a Community Interest Company, committed to investing in literature and author development. We will soon be launching DIRT, a plantable ecopoetry press… Ethos Dialect speaks from the edges of things. I had therapy, travelled, changed jobs, stayed at home with the kids, started my own business and I completed courses. But it was only when I started working with a coach that I started to see the change I craved. Coaching helped me connect with myself. It allowed me to take charge of my life, to enjoy being me.

I'm passionate about children growing up feeling seen, heard and understood. Acceptance, belonging and connection in family life are so important. Over two decades of working with children, fostering and having my own birth children means I know this is easy to aspire to, but can be hard to achieve, especially if your child has different needs to others around you. My own journey into parenting was back to front – I was a foster carer for 7 years along with my husband, Steve. Our first “child” was 17 and our second was 14! These experiences plus having my own birth children who are now 6 and 8 have taught me there really is no one size fits all. We’ve had many moments feeling stuck, minunderstood, frustrated and exhausted over the years. In those challenging times having a safe space to talk, reflect, step back and access our expertise on our children has consistently made a huge difference to our experience of family life. When we had support as parents we were better able to support our children and family life was calmer and happier. It’s why doing this work matters so much to me. When I help you - your whole family will reap the benefit and you'll enjoy this precious time together so much more.

Their foundations established the ethos for St Rose’s and St Martin’s today: the happy, family-atmosphere where children and students are challenged to develop and achieve their potential. Set in beautiful grounds within walking distance to the centre of Stroud we offer a nurturing and social environment for students to develop their independence. We provide education, therapy and day and residential care for children and students aged 2 to 25, with a wide range of disabilities, including Autism. In our nursery we have mainstream children, as well as children with disabilities. Many of our students have physical disabilities, as well as sensory, learning and communication difficulties; some also have complex health needs. Parents and carers trust us implicitly. Our very individual and flexible approach means we can easily adapt the programme for each student. As their needs and aspirations change and they develop, we offer new opportunities to support their personal growth and independence. Our integrated team of dedicated and specialist staff makes this possible. As well as specialist teaching staff, we have our own therapeutic staff on site, offering a range of therapies, including physio, speech and language, occupational, aquatic, massage and music. We have our own hydrotherapy pool. We also offer specialist medical support, 24 hours a day. Our staff are truly exceptional, and the trust we build with families is very strong. We also provide individual programmes through strong links with mainstream schools and FE colleges, so students can specialise and flourish where their aspirations lie. Fun and achievement exist side-by-side and we celebrate success in many ways. Students enjoy many social occasions and events held at St Rose’s and St Martin’s and at outside venues.
