In the afternoon we will have some fun exploring the possibilities using these unique textiles for Gelli Plate printing. &nbsp;You will leave full of inspiration and with a stack of experimental prints!

Jayne Emerson is a practicing textile designer, author and tutor based in north Gloucestershire, UK. She has an MA in Fashion from Central St Martins and a 1st class degree in Textiles from Loughborough College of Art and Design. &nbsp;She has over 25 years experience as a conceptual textile designer. Selling internationally to clients ranging from Chanel and Dior to M&amp;S and Boden. &nbsp;

Jayne regularly teaches experimental textile workshops and taught Kirstie Allsopp how to needle felt on TV. &nbsp; She is the author of 6 craft books, including Simply Felt, The Impatient Patchworker and New From Old all about up-cycling your wardrobe. She is also the founder of No Rules Textile Society, an online community of textile adventurers.

All materials are provided - if you have any textiles with particularly interesting textures you would like to include feel free to bring them along. &nbsp;

It&rsquo;s also a great size for practicing quilting. &nbsp;You could also use the star blocks to create matching table mats.You will end up with a stunning centrepiece for your table, perfect for those special occasions.

The session includes a worksheet, knitting demonstrations, plus a PowerPoint presentation covering plus graduation dyeing with Procion MX Cold Water dyes.&nbsp; There will also be a range of samples, to inspire further exploration after the session.

Aimed at anyone with an interest in textiles and soft sculpture, the workshop examines the artistic potential of knitting.&nbsp; The emphasis is on creating experimental samples, rather than a finished piece, although techniques can be adapted to create a garment, accessory or household object.

Yarns, any will do, but bright rainbow shades if possible.
Several small stitch holders or safety pins.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Bondaweb on a roll: This is the primary material you will be using.
Fabric ground: A plain fabric base, this can be cotton or polyester (scrap fabrics for the patchwork design)
Haberdashery: Scrap fabrics and a variety of threads. Gather beads, sequins, ribbons, yarns, or any other embellishments you want to incorporate into your artwork
Iron and board: To fuse the fabric layers together, no steam. Iron should be on its hottest temperature.
Hand sewing needle and thread & hand embroidery needle and thread.
Fabric scissors.
Acrylic paint: very small amount (2 colours) & paintbrush.
Baking parchment (greaseproof paper) to protect your iron
If you are machine embroidering your artwork, you will also need:
Sewing machine with free hand capacity

It will consider DIY approaches to tool and material making, while questioning our motivations and needs to utilise drawing as a vital tool in a creative practice.

This course is suitable for anyone, from those new to textiles, through to experienced makers who want to explore or refresh ways of thinking. You may be a teacher or lecturer looking to recharge your creative batteries, a student who wants to further your current knowledge, or maybe outside of formal education and fancy trying something outside of your usual remit.



WHAT TO EXPECT:
This approach to creativity focuses on a playful and ‘what if’ method of developing ideas for future designs or art directions through drawing. Mark-making, form creation, repetition and colour trials will be used as a basis to explore drawing through patchwork, weaving and hand stitched quilting. While you may choose to develop ideas onto ‘finished’ artefacts, drawings or designs, the series focuses on ideas generation as a part of the whole creative process.
We spend so much time thinking through ideas to completion, often before we even put pen to paper. What might happen if we think through such things while actually engaging in making, playfulness and ‘just doing stuff’ so, that we build an engaging and rich resource of research? Drawing can also be a challenge that brings anxiety, but a free approach to what might constitute drawing can often release those super exciting but unexpected ideas – that frequently never surface when we are rigid in our thinking.

 



WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
While we may have a host of glorious materials and tools available to us, this course will focus on using more every day and accessible materials with extensions suggested as to how ideas may evolve with a broader range of medium etc. In terms of fabrics and threads, it can be with scraps that you have available, old items of clothing or cloth and yarn that has been bought specifically for this.

This is an oportunity to enjoy a day of quilting in the comfort of your own home. &nbsp;There will be live Google Meets throughout the day to check on progress and to ask questions. &nbsp;You will have access to a PDF downloadable pattern, pre-recorded video tutorials as well as the recordings of the live sessions, and a materials pack will be sent to you prior to the start of the event. &nbsp;There will also be a follow up live session the following day to answer any questions.Materials pack will included:Fabric for the quilt top, Fabric for the backing, Fabric for the binding, 100% cotton wadding, all you need to provide is the thread, sewing machine and general sewing kit.If you can&#39;t make it on the day, you will have access to the live recordings, as well as the video tutorials.&nbsp;&nbsp;
