The touch, holding, &nbsp;swaying, and simple repetitive movements allow the participant to feel &nbsp;safe within the circle and provides an opportunity for expression and &nbsp;creativity. The dance also provides an enjoyable form of exercise and &nbsp;movement.The aim and scope of the Circle DanceCircle &nbsp;Dance training aims to enable and skill up staff to provide their own &nbsp;movement and music sessions with their service users. Staff have &nbsp;welcomed an activity in which people with moderate/medium stage dementia &nbsp;can engage. It offers the opportunity for a shared activity with &nbsp;partners, relatives and carers. It can be used in residential and day &nbsp;settings, assessment units, NHS and voluntary organisation groups with &nbsp;older people, people with learning disability, mental health conditions, &nbsp;and physical disabilities. It can be offered at care home social &nbsp;events, and Alzheimer&#39;s Cafes.How has Circle Dancing been adapted for people with dementia?(including learning disability, older people with physical disabilities &amp; mental health conditions)Dance &nbsp;and movement have been successfully included in care provision &nbsp;activities since the 1940s. There is a body of research evidencing the &nbsp;promotion of well-being through making use of rhythm, touch and &nbsp;movement; moreover several practitioners/researchers have evidenced the benefits of using folk music with older people and people with dementia.From &nbsp;1996-2002, Dorothy Jerrome provided regular sessions in Brighton, which &nbsp;were evaluated and written up in dementia journals, and in a book on &nbsp;therapeutic dance. Also available is an &nbsp;online resource containing dance notes and choreography, to accompany the music.Training Facilitator: Liv McLennanLiv has had a passion for working for people with dementia since her &nbsp;teens, when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer&rsquo;s-type &nbsp;dementia. After a music degree and time as an army musician, Liv worked &nbsp;for various charities, including the Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society, developing &nbsp;projects mainly based around peer support and groupwork. &nbsp;Liv then completed the renowned Certificate in Music Workshop Skills at &nbsp;Goldsmith&rsquo;s College, and has been self-employed as a community musician, &nbsp;working with different groups. The main areas she specialises in are &nbsp;Early Years, Community Choirs and people with dementia. She works with &nbsp;various organisations, including Westminster Arts, Age Exchange and &nbsp;Alzheimer&rsquo;s Society delivering music, movement, reminiscence and &nbsp;cross-arts projects. She is also a trainer in these areas and has run &nbsp;training sessions for community musicians and care workers in how to &nbsp;incorporate these techniques into their work. Liv plays the cello, &nbsp;highland bagpipes and saxophone, and dabbles in ukulele and kantele! In &nbsp;her spare time, she enjoys Circle Dancing and learning Appalachian Clog &nbsp;Dancing. What is Circle Dancing?
Circle dancing developed from traditional folk dance from around the world. Music and dances from the circle dance repertoire have been simplified and adapted for both seated and standing dance. The touch, holding, swaying, and simple repetitive movements allow the participant to feel safe within the circle and provides an opportunity for expression and creativity. The dance also provides an enjoyable form of exercise and movement.
The aim and scope of the Circle Dance
Circle Dance training aims to enable and skill up staff to provide their own movement and music sessions with their service users. Staff have welcomed an activity in which people with moderate/medium stage dementia can engage. It offers the opportunity for a shared activity with partners, relatives and carers. It can be used in residential and day settings, assessment units, NHS and voluntary organisation groups with older people, people with learning disability, mental health conditions, and physical disabilities. It can be offered at care home social events, and Alzheimer's Cafes.
How has Circle Dancing been adapted for people with dementia?
(including learning disability, older people with physical disabilities & mental health conditions)
Dance and movement have been successfully included in care provision activities since the 1940s. There is a body of research evidencing the promotion of well-being through making use of rhythm, touch and movement; moreover several practitioners/researchers have evidenced the benefits of using folk music with older people and people with dementia.
From 1996-2002, Dorothy Jerrome provided regular sessions in Brighton, which were evaluated and written up in dementia journals, and in a book on therapeutic dance. Building on Dorothy’s work, Cynthia Heymanson and Kath Kershaw developed and adapted Circle Dance for people living with dementia and other health issues by training staff in care settings. Cynthia and Kath worked closely together to provide training across the UK to empower staff so they can feel confident to provide simple seated and standing dance and enjoy music and song.
The management and delivery of Circle Dance, established by Kath and Cynthia, was transfer to Dementia Pathfinders in October 2013 and we have delivered many successful training sessions since then.
Course Aim 
This one-day course will introduce participants to the use of Circle Dance and provide them with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver circle dance sessions in their own settings.
The course is suitable for practitioners who work with people with dementia in group settings, such as care staff, activity coordinators, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, community dance practitioners, community musicians, exercise instructors, day centre workers and volunteers who are based in settings with people with dementia.
Course Objectives
To introduce learners to the history of circle dance and its contemporary use in the field of dementia
For learners to experience a variety of the circle dances
To give a basic understanding of how dementia may affect physical and cognitive skills with respect to dance
To equip learners with skills in devising basic choreography for circle dance in dementia
To explore links with other activities, such as reminiscence, exercise and music
To encourage learners to consider the planning, delivery, observation and monitoring of their circle dance sessions
Learning Outcomes - at the end of the course learners will be able to:
State the benefits of dance and specifically circle dance, for people with dementia
Describe best practice in group facilitation skills for people with dementia
Plan and deliver circle dance sessions in their work settings for people with dementia
Create new dance steps to music for use in their settings
Devise effective ways of using observation and monitoring of their circle dance sessions
Training Style/Approach
The day is a mixture of taught content, experiential and creative learning, delivered in a relaxed way.
The delegate rate includes 20 tracks of specially selected Circle Dance music suitable for standing and seated dance. Also available is an online resource containing dance notes and choreography, to accompany the music.
Training Facilitator: Liv McLennan
Liv has had a passion for working for people with dementia since her teens, when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s-type dementia. After a music degree and time as an army musician, Liv worked for various charities, including the Alzheimer’s Society, developing projects mainly based around peer support and groupwork. Liv then completed the renowned Certificate in Music Workshop Skills at Goldsmith’s College, and has been self-employed as a community musician, working with different groups. The main areas she specialises in are Early Years, Community Choirs and people with dementia. She works with various organisations, including Westminster Arts, Age Exchange and Alzheimer’s Society delivering music, movement, reminiscence and cross-arts projects. She is also a trainer in these areas and has run training sessions for community musicians and care workers in how to incorporate these techniques into their work. Liv plays the cello, highland bagpipes and saxophone, and dabbles in ukulele and kantele! In her spare time, she enjoys Circle Dancing and learning Appalachian Clog Dancing. She is also on the board of trustees for Sound Sense, the Professional Association for Community Musicians.

RQF level 1 Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health
Each year approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health condition and at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems in the workplace. Research has shown that work is the biggest cause of stress which can stop people performing at their best.

Mental health conditions are often hidden due to stigma and fear of discrimination and research has shown that a culture of fear and silence around mental health is costly to employers. The HSE guidance 'First aid needs assessment’ refers to mental health in the workplace.

This 4-hour qualification provides learners with the knowledge to recognise a range of mental health conditions, how to start a supportive conversation and when and how to signpost a person to seek appropriate professional help. Learners will know how to recognise and manage stress.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.

Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS)

Our CITB Online - Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher course is designed to give attendees a broad reminder of their responsibilities for health and safety on construction sites. Approved and endorsed by the United Kingdom Contractors Group, the SSSTS refresher course is a must for anyone who occupies a supervisory role on UKCG sites and wants to brush up on their knowledge of their legal responsibilities and the latest construction industry regulations.
The SSSTS Refresher course has been created to provide existing supervisors, or those who are just entering into a supervisory role, with in-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and procedures. If a candidate completed a full SSSTS training course up to 5 years ago, they will be required to attend a refresher programme.
Prerequisites
SSSTS certificates are of course valid for up to 5 years, but due to the ever-changing nature of the industry, it is recommended that staff stay up to date by enrolling on a refresher course long before the qualification expires.

This one-day course is a must for anyone considering or already working within a construction or civil engineering environment. This course provides Health and Safety awareness and is endorsed by Build UK as a standard training for all operatives on site.
Aims
To give a clear understanding of Regulations & Legislation that applies to construction work and is an ideal refresher for any operative that has previously completed training in Health & Safety.

To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date or have completed an NVQ2 or higher in your skills set.

Understanding culture and diversity within the context of a salon, including opportunities and challenges for aesthetic therapists. Diversity and inclusion. Principles of diversity.


M04 – History, Definitions and Roles
The origins of microneedling and development of PRP, evolution of treatments, types of equipment and range of applications. Historical perspective and modern day examples of PRP therapies.


M05 – Health & Safety & IPC
H&S legislation, Standard Precautions (for blood borne pathogens), Pathogen types, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Handwashing and Hygiene, Hazardous Waste Disposal (non-specific), Preventing Needlestick Injuries. A detailed look at viruses, bacteria and fungi. Handling clients with infectious conditions and infestations. Transmission modes. Sterilisation processes in the workplace, including autoclaves.


M06 – Regulatory Obligations
Pathways – employed, contracted and self-employed, Management of H&S at work, Local and national government laws and bylaws, DBS types, Record Keeping, Hazardous Waste Disposal (specific), Insurance and insurance types, Accident reporting, The Keogh Review, HEE guidelines, Professional bodies.


M07 – Professionalism & Effective Communication
Presenting a professional image, guidelines and recommendations. How to effectively communicate with your clients and colleagues, communication methods, communicating efficiently in consultation.


M08 – Consent
Understanding consent types and your client’s capacity to consent. The importance of valid consent. Consent frequency. Risk assessment. Storing consent documentation – looking at paper and digital/cloud. Consent and the law. Determining if consent is robust.


M09 – Environmental and Sustainable Work Practices
Sustainability in the workplace. Running an efficient salon (water efficiency, waste reduction, interior fittings). Advancements including digital options (clients and suppliers).


M10 – Anatomy & Physiology
A&P for collagen induction therapy. Veins, arteries and capillaries (phlebotomy overview). The integumentary system – structure and function. Microneedling – depths and penetration. The lymphatic system. The circulatory system. Skin as a defence barrier. Skin – functions and layers. Merkel cells, Langerhans Cells, Keratinocytes and Melanocytes. The epidermal-melanin unit. Fibroblasts and connective tissue. The effects of ageing. Skin changes over time. Skin rejuvenation including optimising cell function and increasing natural collagen. Inducing regenerative healing. The Fitzpatrick Scale. A detailed look at cell function, specifically melanocytes, keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Microneedling the skin, effects and collagen response. Wound healing – stages (haemostasis, inflammatory, proliferative and maturation). Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Topical applications to improve keratinocyte function. Whole blood – composition. Platelets and growth factors (types and functions). What are platelets? Understanding platelet modes of action. Platelet Rich Plasma – preparation. PPP and PRP. PRP Activation and collagen response in vivo. Fibrin network formation. Dermal needle puncture - repair pathway. Examples of microneedling applications. Needle depths and facial skin thickness. Types of treatments – a case by case examination.


M14 – Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) – Harvesting and Preparation
Phlebotomy. Using correct needle size and anticoagulant. Understanding autologous treatment types with PRP. The treatment agent pathway. Whole blood processing.
