Staffordshire was one of the earliest county associations to be established in the country, being founded in 1939 – prior to outbreak of World War II. Its aim was to facilitate emergency planning during the War, to enable networking, to lobby for PCs and provide legal and other advice to them. In 1947 the National Association of Parish Councils (NALC) was founded (following work done by National Council of Social Service in 1934), which has a team of specialist legal, policy and financial advisors. More than 88% of the 180 parish and town councils in Staffordshire are in membership. The members range from the smallest of parish councils with just a few hundred electors to the largest town councils with tens of thousands of electors. The Association provides training and offers courses on such varied subjects as chairmanship skills, council procedures and accounting and budgeting. It also offers the formal qualification for clerks, the Certificate in Local Council Administration (CiLCA). There are 41 County Associations of Local (parish and town) Councils in England and Wales with some 9,500 parish, town and community councils in membership.

We are situated in a semi-rural setting some twelve miles south west of Birmingham. The village of Hagley is within close proximity to the national motorway network and on a train line from Worcester to Birmingham, yet still enjoys views of the Clent Hills and beautiful surrounding countryside. As a Catholic School we believe that everyone is uniquely formed in the image of God and we are called to live, learn and serve in Jesus' name, by living out the Gospel values and following the compassion of Christ. The courses, seminars, lectures and conferences at the Leadership Training Centre are designed and facilitated to support the formation and development of Christian leaders in their various practice of ministry. The Certificate in Ministerial Studies(CIMS) courses are open to Pastors and Church leaders from all Christian denominations. CIMS courses provide learning opportunities for effective Christian service within and beyond the local church. We continue to work in partnership with a selected number of theological institutions and organisations such as The Queen’s Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education, the Pentecostal Theological Seminary (PTS) and the Association of Christian Counsellors’ (ACC)). Partnership with PTS enables us to facilitate a Certificate Programme for Church Leaders and a UK MDiv cohort which should appeal to those who wish to advance their theological studies particularly in our Pentecostal tradition. The CIMS course, Helping People in Crises, for example, has been extended to incorporate the ACC acclaimed ‘Pastoral Care Foundation Course’ and provide an opportunity for those with a heart for pastoral care to sharpen their perspective and skills to become more effective in the care of people in their churches and local communities. We welcome every Pastor and key leader within the New Testament Church of God and other denominations to take advantage of our provision to enrich your personal and ministerial development and enhance your practice of ministry.

From the Headteacher, Michael Scott May I extend a warm welcome to our website. Newport Girls’ High School offers an all-round education with considerable strengths both inside and beyond the classroom. We support students academically to achieve their potential, whilst also developing resilience and promoting emotional wellbeing. As a relatively small school, there is a real family-feel to NGHS and our house system affords students the chance to meet peers in other year groups and to participate in healthy competition in a wide range of disciplines. There is an extra-curricular activity to suit all tastes at NGHS and staff work exceptionally hard to provide these opportunities for our students. We also organise a number of key open events during the academic year and welcome visitors to see all that NGHS has to offer. Our curriculum is academically rigorous with all students studying two modern languages in KS3 and separate sciences at GCSE. Some students also study Further Maths as an additional equivalent GCSE. At A-level we offer a full range of subjects to enable progression to university, apprenticeship or employment. Significant support with UCAS applications is available to all. Our pastoral team, comprising both teaching Heads of Year, SENDCO and non-teaching support staff ensure that our students’ individual needs are met and we work closely with families and primary schools to ensure a smooth transfer from Year 6. Newport Girls’ High School was visited by Ofsted in October 2019 for a section 8 inspection. We are delighted to have retained our outstanding status as a result of this visit under the revised Ofsted framework.

Cuban Salsa was derived from an earlier dance form known as ‘Son’ and other popular social dances as well as mambo and cha cha cha . The Cuban style developed into a very relaxed, passionate and expressive style where your personality gets to shine as much as your dance steps. It’s been danced since the 50’s and all started in Havana, the capital city of Cuba . Fun, passion and enjoyment are a major part of our Cuban Salsa classes and social events in Leicester, Nuneaton, Coventry, Derbyshire and Birmingham. Cuban Salsa is very much alive in the heart of the Midlands with Havana Salsa! Rodolfo and his wife Laura, and their team of trained instructors from across the globe have teamed up to bring the addictive Cuban Salsa to many people of all ages. With weekly Cuban Salsa classes in many cities across the midlands are fun and full of energetic content accompanied by great music and great people. Anybody can join the classes from absolute beginner’s right up to advance dancers. No partners are needed, just bring your enthusiasm to take on a beautiful dance. We have one passion… whether it is via one of our weekly Cuban Salsa classes across the Midlands , or our regular fiestas (social dance parties) and workshops; we hope to share that passion with you.
