It gives a &#39;safe space&#39; and uses examples designed to &#39;stretch the strategic thinking muscles&#39; - a step away from the specifics of the organisation and its current issues, but helping to develop the strategic thinking and strategy conversation skills that the team can apply in its own organisation. In January 2024 alone, reports were published about the SRA taking enforcement action against 3 firms and 4 individuals for failure to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. The fines issued for these non-compliances total over &pound;570,000 plus costs. In January 2024 alone, reports were published about the SRA taking enforcement action against 3 firms and 4 individuals for failure to comply with the Money Laundering Regulations 2017. The fines issued for these non-compliances total over £570,000 plus costs. The absence of staff training, or requirement to complete additional training, was noted in a number of these cases.
Many of the breaches resulting in enforcement action involved failures by the fee earners to conduct appropriate due diligence, adequately check the source of funds and/or wealth or recognise and report red flags. This Level 1 Certification Program is the first step in our Instructor Training Certification Pathway, equipping you to confidently use the Healthcare Hero simulation in your teaching environment.

In this program, you will experience the simulation as a student, navigating its complexities and dynamics. Upon successfully completing Level 1, you’ll be ready to advance to Level 2 Training, where you will deepen your expertise in simulation facilitation and administration.

What to Expect:
The Healthcare Hero simulation places you in charge of a fictional hospital. Over eight simulation rounds - each representing one quarter of business operations - you will make strategic decisions to optimize patient care while managing staffing, capacity, quality, and finances.
Throughout the simulation, you’ll navigate challenges like healthcare and economic crises, all while balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders. Your ultimate goal is to outperform competing hospitals managed by other participants in the program.

Program and Certification Requirements

This program equips you to confidently lead the simulation by requiring more than attendance or participation. To earn certification, you must:

Thoroughly Prepare: Review all instructional materials and the scenario manual before the course begins.
Fully Participate: Attend all Zoom sessions and complete each simulation round with focus and effort.
Demonstrate Mastery: Show a comprehensive understanding of the simulation’s dynamics, decision-making processes, and strategies during practice and live rounds.
Engage in Reflection: Actively participate in debrief sessions, assess your performance, and identify strategies for improvement.

This certification ensures you are equipped to facilitate this complex simulation with confidence. Auditing the course is an option, but participants who choose to audit will not receive certification.

The program is delivered intensively over one or more Zoom sessions, totaling six hours. This compressed format demands your full attention and focus to successfully navigate the simulation’s complexities.

The program unfolds in four key phases:


Phase 1: Pre Zoom Call / Study / Set Up

Register using the button at the bottom of this page.
Review the instructional materials thoroughly.
Once the cohort is finalized, you will be sent your login credentials for the simulation itself.
Try to submit decisions for the first practice round using the simulation portal at www.simulationportal.com.


Phase 2: Play

We run two practice rounds over the first 2 hours of the zoom call. This allows you to familiarize yourself with the platform and decision-making process, and think through what your strategy might be in the live game.
The simulation resets ("zeroed") after the practice rounds.
A brief session will clarify lessons learned and expectations for the live rounds.
Over eight rounds, you’ll compete against other participants while refining your strategic decisions.


Phase 3: Feedback

Reflect on your performance during a structured debrief, including:
Strengths and areas for improvement.
Insights into competitors’ strategies.
Strategic lessons learned, and applicability to local healthcare organizations.


Phase 4: Implementation Planning

Work with the HFX team to plan your first application of the simulation in a teaching environment.

M09 - Advanced Phlebotomy Tasks:
Additional procedures. Maintaining POC equipment. Stock control and stock rotation. Quality control. Data entry. Product evaluation. Training and competency evaluation.
M10 - Alternative Environments:
A step-by-step look at non-clinical phlebotomy environments including private testing, DEFRA, forensic and police, cord blood collection, DNA analysis, veterinary services, overseas and volunteering.

2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

LOOKING FOR: PICTURE BOOKS, MG, YA, ADULT FICTION

Clare Wallace joined the Darley Anderson Agency in January 2011 and is building both the Darley Anderson Children’s Agency and the Darley Anderson Illustration Agency lists as well as taking on adult fiction for debut authors. 

Clare is particularly looking for funny chapter books for younger readers at the moment, as well as contemporary MG, YA fantasy, romance, and rom coms, especially with underrepresented protagonists. For picture books she has the widest taste, from daft to lyrical, rhyming to prose. 

As well as being busy with the children’s and illustration agencies, Clare is open to debut adult fiction submissions that could be described as book club, rom-com, romance, saga, reading group, fantasy or historical fiction. She often doesn’t know what she’s looking for until she finds it (although she is not the person for steampunk or space opera). 

She represents picture books, middle-grade, teenage and YA and debut adult fiction. The clients Clare represents include Perdita & Honor Cargill, Caroline Crowe, Tom Ellen, Martyn Ford, Stewart Foster, Olivia Hope, A M Howell, Polly Ho-Yen, Rachel Ip, Beth Reekles, J.P. Rose, Lindsay Galvin, Dave Rudden, Deirdre Sullivan and Efua Traoré.
Whatever the age range, Clare loves a big hook, a lot of heart, and a standout voice.  She loves to discover memorable new characters, bold and unique voices, strong concepts and gripping storytelling. This list gives a good indication of Clare's taste but if your submission doesn’t fit a description here, it doesn’t mean Clare doesn’t want to receive it.

Clare would like you to send a covering letter, a one page synopsis and the first three chapters (Max 5000 words) of your manuscript in a single word document. For picture books, please submit a covering letter and up to three completed texts.

Please send EITHER picture books OR another genre, not both in one submission.
