A modular "hybrid" venepuncture course - eLearning (online) theory and one full day classroom based course.

PART 1 - THEORY
Complete this part of your course online (eLearning Course) in the comfort of your own home or workplace.
Please allow approx. 5-7 hours to complete this part of your course. You do not need to complete Part 1 in a single "sitting", and can log on/off to complete as and when convenient to you.

Gyamfia Osei joined ANA in 2023 as a Literary Agent in the UK department. She was previously an agent at The Good Literary Agency, where she began building her list of authors. 2 - Syringe and Needle (open system): Correct use and applications.
3 - Monovette (open and closed systems):
Using the Monovette system in aspiration mode - correct use and applications.
Using the Monovette system in evacuated mode - correct use and applications.
4 - IR Vein Detector:
Demonstration of the IR vein detector for assisting in detection of difficult veins.
5 - Veins in back of hand:
Detecting suitable veins in the back of the hand.
6 - POC testing:
Point of Care Testing - use of glucose meter to demonstrate a typical POC test procedure. Correct use and overview of other POC test devices.
7 - Using lancets (finger collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for POC testing and whole blood micro-collection.
8 - Using lancets (heel collection)
We look at the correct use of lancets for neonatal blood spot tests (Guthrie Test).
9 - Capillary collection
Using glass capillary tubes for micro-collection. Correct use and handling.
10 - Microtube collection
Correct use of BD Microtainers (and similar micro-collection bottles) - collection and handling.

Advanced Phlebotomy - Skills & Techniques (GPT005)

Since the end of the Cold War, ideological rivalries have largely given way to nationalism and ethnic conflict as the primary drivers of strife within and between nations. From ethnic and religious violence to clan-based struggles, cultural divisions have destabilized countries and regions, often spilling across borders to threaten global security. Scholars warn that these conflicts—frequently framed as ethnic, nationalist, or religious—challenge not only regional stability but also the very concept of world order.

Even in so-called "unified" First World nation-states, cultural tensions have surged, evident in the rise of secessionist movements and anti-immigrant political parties. Minority groups worldwide are increasingly vocal, demanding recognition and rights, while those in power often respond with repression or violence. The result is a growing wave of nationalist conflicts—ranging from mass expulsions to state-sponsored genocide—that has tested traditional notions of state sovereignty and sparked international humanitarian interventions.

Despite widespread acknowledgment of this nationalist resurgence, experts remain divided on its origins, meaning, and solutions. Debates intensified with Samuel Huntington’s provocative “Clash of Civilizations” thesis, which gained urgency after September 11 and the War on Terror. 

Critics argue that the real struggle lies not between civilizations but within competing visions of modernity—one rooted in individualism and democracy, the other in communal identity and self-determination—or what some call a “Clash of Fundamentalism” fueled by religious movements.

This course explores these dynamics, examining the roots of identity-based conflict and the pathways to peace in deeply divided societies. It equips learners with the theoretical tools and practical insights to understand and address one of the defining challenges of our time.

M04 – History, Definitions and Roles
The origins of microneedling and development of PRP, evolution of treatments, types of equipment and range of applications. Historical perspective and modern day examples of PRP therapies.


M05 – Health & Safety & IPC
H&S legislation, Standard Precautions (for blood borne pathogens), Pathogen types, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Handwashing and Hygiene, Hazardous Waste Disposal (non-specific), Preventing Needlestick Injuries. A detailed look at viruses, bacteria and fungi. Handling clients with infectious conditions and infestations. Transmission modes. Sterilisation processes in the workplace, including autoclaves.


M06 – Regulatory Obligations
Pathways – employed, contracted and self-employed, Management of H&S at work, Local and national government laws and bylaws, DBS types, Record Keeping, Hazardous Waste Disposal (specific), Insurance and insurance types, Accident reporting, The Keogh Review, HEE guidelines, Professional bodies.


M07 – Professionalism & Effective Communication
Presenting a professional image, guidelines and recommendations. How to effectively communicate with your clients and colleagues, communication methods, communicating efficiently in consultation.


M08 – Consent
Understanding consent types and your client’s capacity to consent. The importance of valid consent. Consent frequency. Risk assessment. Storing consent documentation – looking at paper and digital/cloud. Consent and the law. Determining if consent is robust.


M09 – Environmental and Sustainable Work Practices
Sustainability in the workplace. Running an efficient salon (water efficiency, waste reduction, interior fittings). Advancements including digital options (clients and suppliers).


M10 – Anatomy & Physiology
A&P for collagen induction therapy. Veins, arteries and capillaries (phlebotomy overview). The integumentary system – structure and function. Microneedling – depths and penetration. The lymphatic system. The circulatory system. Skin as a defence barrier. Skin – functions and layers. Merkel cells, Langerhans Cells, Keratinocytes and Melanocytes. The epidermal-melanin unit. Fibroblasts and connective tissue. The effects of ageing. Skin changes over time. Skin rejuvenation including optimising cell function and increasing natural collagen. Inducing regenerative healing. The Fitzpatrick Scale. A detailed look at cell function, specifically melanocytes, keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Microneedling the skin, effects and collagen response. Whole blood – composition. Platelets and growth factors (types and functions). What are platelets? Understanding platelet modes of action. Platelet Rich Plasma – preparation. PPP and PRP. PRP Activation and collagen response in vivo. Fibrin network formation. Dermal needle puncture - repair pathway. Examples of microneedling applications. Needle depths and facial skin thickness. Saskia Leach is a Junior Literary Agent at Kate Nash Literary Agency, where she has been working since 2021. She loves stories that features complex and dynamic characters and is fascinated by books containing document inserts or written from multiple perspectives. Saskia represents fiction for adults and young adults in the genres of crime, thriller, romance, historical/saga, horror, speculative and bookclub. She does not represent literary fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, non-fiction, action/adventure thrillers, non-fiction, picture books or chapter books for children younger than middle grade.

Saskia is particularly looking for LGBTQIA+ romance, high concept psychological thriller with a unique hook or set in an unusual location, and bookclub fiction revolving around a moral dilemma - but she is open to reading submissions in all genres she represents. She is keen to hear from writers from underrepresented voices and perspectives.
