DATE: 20th March TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A Central Film School are delighted to invite Alexis Watkins to speak to our student body about the importance of mental wellbeing and the keys to mental safeguarding for both yourself and other students. Alexis has professional experience in the following roles: - Mental Health Practitioner & Data Analyst for BWW Mind - Chair of Central & North West London (CNWL) NHS Mental Health Ambassador Group - Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for the WïSH Centre - National Lived Experience Partner for NHS England She has filmed with the CNWL and was recently part of a team nominated at the Health Service Journal awards for Reducing Healthcare Inequalities for Children and Young People award. She has also been a guest-speaker at The Listening Place, a charity focused on helping those with suicidal thoughts. She will be joining us to specifically discuss topics of isolation, substance abuse and suicidal ideation. Even if you are fortunate enough not to be struggling with your mental health currently, it is always worth being aware of the signs and knowing how to help others, so please consider coming along to this event if you feel comfortable doing so.

DATE: 12th February TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A The original Marriage Story, this 1970s classic tells the story of a couple's divorce, the impact it has on their son and their personal lives, and how they need to cope as parents, working with the person they've fallen out of love with. Featuring two towering performances from Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep, this courtroom drama has lost none of its power and nuance, and remains one of the best examinations of the breakdown of a relationship ever put to film. When it was released in 1979, it was one of the first time a film confronted issues such as work-life balance, father's rights and expected gender roles. Told with heart as well as humour, this film will stay with you for a long time after the credits roll.

DATE: 26th March TIME: 4pm LOCATION:Studio A We are pleased to welcome Film Buddy back for an exclusive TELEVISION SCREENWRITING mentoring session, where we will feature two wonderful guest speakers and mentors: CALEB RANSON (Around the World in 80 Days, Midsomer Murders) and JAKE RIDDELL (Waterloo Road, Young Dracula, Grantchester, Death in Paradise). They will be discussing various aspects of TV Screenwriting, including what to include in your pilot and how best to pitch your series idea. Be sure to book on if you are interested and want to learn more about professional screenwriting.

Date: 12th March 2024 Time: 4pm Location: Studio A Acclaimed actress Ruth Negga will be joining us in a Professional Perspectives session next month, discussing her career, experiences working with many famous directors (Neil Jordan, Jeff Nichols, James Gray & Duncan Jones amongst others) as well as on TV shows such as Preacher, Misfits and Agents of SHIELD. There will also be a Q+A session towards the end where students can ask her questions directly. Be sure to book tickets in advance so that you can secure your place for this exciting event!

DATE: Tuesday 28th May TIME: 4pm LOCATION: Studio A Jordan Gifford is an up and coming writer, director and producer who will be coming in to give advice on looking for Freelance Film work. He will discuss his own burgeoning career, how he went from a runner to working in film locations, to being given the opportunity to produce his first feature film, all whilst also finding his own voice as a writer/director of dramatic short films. You will get the chance to ask him questions directly as well, and hear advice from someone who not too long ago was in your shoes exactly. Be sure to book in advance if you want to come along.
