Jim Cronin, founder of Monkey World, passed away on 17 March 2007 at Cabrini Medical Center in Manhattan. Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, he was a resident of Great Britain for more than two decades where he and his wife Alison have operated their internationally renowned ape rescue centre. Monkey World works with governments around the world to halt the illegal smuggling of apes out of Africa and Asia. Jim and Alison built Monkey World from a small refuge to a 65 acre wildlife park that is home to more than 240 rescued primates of 17 different species, and it is rated as one of the most popular family destinations in England. In 2006 Jim and Alison were awarded the honour of Member of the British Empire (MBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for Services to Animal Welfare. The well-loved television series, Monkey Business and Monkey Life, have documented their frequent rescue missions, undercover investigations, and the soap opera that is the lives of the rescued monkeys and apes, for more than a decade.

What we do: At Safespaces, we work with families and healthcare professionals to design and supply safe rooms, and high-sided beds for individuals with complex needs. These products are used in family homes, schools, hospitals and for travel. Our equipment is designed for adults and children who may be unsafe in an ordinary room or bed. We supply products for people with complex needs, including learning disabilities, autism, epilepsy and challenging behaviours. What difference do our products make to the people using them and their families? Since 2001 families & professionals have told us that our products: • enable children and adults to stay at home when this doesn’t seem possible • allow the user and their family to sleep, often for the first time in years • assist individuals to manage their own behaviours or reduce medication • provide a cosy therapy and sensory space • allow families to go on holiday with a familiar safe bed • in hospitals our high sided beds enable people with complex needs to access medical treatment in a safe environment • can provide a temporary bed for respite care

Helens professional history included time working as a Senior Nurse Advisor at NHS Direct a Resuscitation Nurse Trainer in Devon and latterly as a School Matron in a private school. David has worked with Helen for several years providing support in training and assessing groups until Helen handed over the reigns in the summer of 2017. David has had a rich career in Health Care. He started in the St John Ambulance aged 12, Joined the Army as a Combat Medical Technician at 16 and trained to work in Operating Theatres a few years later.
