I am a goldsmith, an artist, a craftsperson, a dreamer and a maker. I take great pride in being part of a long chain of makers who have carried on the tradition of handmade jewellery. The permanence, longevity and portability of jewellery provides a rich history in the story of being human. I am proud that my work is part of so many stories of love, celebration and joy. My work is influenced by the play of line and form found in nature and architecture. I enjoy exploring the drama of mixed materials, textures, and surface treatments in my work. I use these influences to create pieces that are contemporary and will stand the test of time. All of my designs are made in my studio in the UK. I specialise in small batch production runs meaning that my work is never mass-produced and is crafted with my own hands. I also offer bespoke commission pieces for those in search of unique and personal items to commemorate special occasions and life events. See my blog page for more details of bespoke work. ETHICS As a human, a mother and a maker I endeavour to be as environmentally responsible as I can in all my practices. This means using recycled precious metal in all my designs, sourcing precious gems through ethical suppliers and using packaging made of FSC Eco materials. I aim to keep business and workshop waste at an absolute minimum, I recycle everything I can and I use no harsh chemicals in my processes. All that said I am not perfect but I do my very best to be responsible. I keep myself educated and informed about what best options are available to me as a maker and promote those ideas and ethics onto my customers and students.

I live is a lovely Leicestershire village with my three grandchildren and two cats. Life is constantly busy, but every available moment I have you will find me at my desk designing and making, or in my workshop adding the finishing touches to a piece. I love working with glass. It is a medium with endless possibilities, it is unpredictable, sometimes difficult to control but when it works it is just beautiful. I have been working with glass for over five years. If you look at my work it is clear to see that I am inspired by nature, the sea, flora, trees, landscapes, and I bring elements of all of these into my work. I am lucky that I have been able to spend time learning from some inspirational UK glass artists, Claire Hall in Somerset, Laura Hart in Suffolk and Roberta Ayles in Devon. All have passed on different and varied skills that have helped me progress as a glass artist. My signature pieces are my fairy pictures. Each one is individual, each one has a link to nature. Most of these are now commissions and I am always overjoyed when I get asked to make a fairy picture. This year I am beginning to discover other materials to work with including silver clay and enamel on copper. The future may involve me exploring ways of combining the different materials to see what can be produced and achieved. Due to a variety of reasons I have come to art later in life, but in retrospect this is the right time for me, what I do makes me happy, I know I am very lucky to be able to say that. Our software has been designed and built by engineers, for engineers. All three directors of our company are career engineers in the heating industry and between us, have over 75 years experience in this field. Our software strictly adheres to the calculation process set out by CIBSE (Charted Institute of Building Services Engineers) and we are also an industrial associate of the CIPHE (Charted Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineers). Heat loss is the one major area within our industry that is often poorly calculated and this leads to extreme inefficiencies within our systems and plant rooms. The Energy Carbon infra-red heating was originally developed in partnership with the University of Stuttgart who were charged with trying to create an energy efficient heating system which was effective, easy to install, and completely safe. Using industry waste materials, the University engineered a far infra-red heating system which was sustainable, had great carbon reducing credentials, and produced radiant heat which could travel up to three and a half metres. The technology has proven popular with homeowners. 100,000 linear metres of carbon fleece far infra-red heating have been fitted to date and when tested, the system has proved to be extremely efficient and a viable alternative to gas and air source heat pumps.

Attracted to the intricacies of formation, proportions, structure and surface found within nature from an aesthetic, microcosmic and physical level but also from a deeper, macrocosmic and scientific level where science is combined with art in particular biology, genetics and the relationship between our innate behaviour and our outward physical appearance with particular fascination by the golden ratio, natural selection and the ornamental differences found within sexual selection. Valuing craftsmanship and process Kay enhances, juxtaposes and explores the limitations of natural components and traditional processes, aiming to question conventional roles and associations, creating original and conceptual pieces that invite the viewer to see the work with a fresh perspective.
