I am a mosaic artist based in Dunblane, Scotland. I use a range of materials in my work, particularly those which allow me to create texture and dimension. Slate is one of my favourite materials to use - it is strong yet delicate, and can contain a range of colours and surfaces. I also love using stone and smalti (a special type of glass for mosaics). I love inspiring others to get creative and I enjoy teaching regular workshops from my home studio. I believe that the process of making a mosaic can be therapeutic, whether it is the mindfulness and relaxation that comes from concentrating on placing individual pieces, or the social interactions that arise from working as part of a group. I am a professional member and the secretary of the British Association for Modern Mosaic (BAMM)

Think of the thing that makes you most happy. When you see it or get involved in it, you light up. That is what creating art does for me. The different commissions I have undertaken have taken me on journeys I might not have otherwise gone on. Connecting with the client and finding out about the reason, motivation and need for the commission sparks all kinds of ideas. My personal art practice often includes playing with a variety of art materials. Whether it's using gouache, creating digital illustrations, using ink and bamboo or cutting into cardboard envelopes to create a scene, there is always some new way to use these materials to express an idea. Biography Originally from the American Midwest, I trained as a Fine Art major, minoring in Art Education. I currently work in Edinburgh as both an artist and an art teacher of young children. All of my art lessons incorporate Art History and the creation of artworks inspired by the work of specific artists or even just a single work by an individual. My professional practice focuses on drawing people, architecture and creating pieces using a variety of art materials. My work has been exhibited throughout the UK and USA, notably the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and the Barbican Artists Studios in London. I divide my work time between creating illustration pieces for various corporate and private clients and teaching children and adults.

Porcupine Upholstery offers a specialist upholstery service, working with both traditional and modern materials. Furniture made pre 1950 was made to last, with wooden frames using traditional jointing methods of dowel and glue and covered in the sturdiest of fabrics. Padding was horsehair. Working with any piece made to these methods, proprietor Paula Graham can usually repair, clean and re-use the original materials or recreate the original effect. Every refurbished piece will meet all current Fire and Safety Regulations, and all fabrics used will have the best possible durability, as measured by the Martindale Rub Test. This internationally recognised test uses discs to rub sandpaper or wool across a fabric, to assess its ability to withstand wear and tear in either domestic or commercial contexts. You are assured of a quality finish that will provide pleasure and utility for decades to come.
