Manual Handling Train The Trainer Refresher course Aim of the course: To equip Team Leaders and Co-ordinators in Care Homes with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver engaging and safe manual handling training to their own staff — including practical techniques, training methods, and peer teaching practice. Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, delegates will be able to: Outline the legal and professional responsibilities related to manual handling in care. Identify manual handling risks and describe common injuries and incidents. Demonstrate safe manual handling techniques, including hoist use, slide sheets, and repositioning methods. Plan and structure a complete manual handling training session. Select and adapt training materials and equipment to suit different learners and settings. Deliver clear, confident explanations and demonstrations of manual handling techniques. Support learners during practical sessions, including correcting unsafe practice. Facilitate discussions and reflective learning with care staff. Evaluate learners’ understanding and performance through observation and questioning. Maintain accurate training records and identify when refresher training is needed. Deliver a short theoretical and practical training activity to peers, receiving feedback. Reflect on their own strengths and areas for development as a trainer.

A one-day/8 hour radar navigation course giving you an understanding of radar as an aid to navigation and collision avoidance. Cruising boats increasingly have radar on board. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea state that if you have a radar, you must know how to use it. Radar is probably the most versatile of all electronic navigation aids, but the best results are only obtained when you know how to use all the functions correctly. It is not an automatic all-seeing eye, and can easily mislead those who do not understand its controls, allow for its limitations, or interpret its picture. If you love African art and texture then this workshop is for you! I have combined my love of Africa and my passion for creating mosaics into a fun workshop where you will learn how to create a slim piece of art using African beads, colourful vibrant glass and slate chips. What to expect You will be shown how to prepare the base, mix your own adhesive and combine your materials using a range of techniques to create interest and texture. Who is this for? Suitable for beginners, however, those with some mosaic experience are also welcome to join. About this event This portrait class will provide you with all you need to start drawing from a sitter including paper, pencils and tuition. You'll get hands-on experience rolling, cutting, adding texture, firing, finishing and more. All the materials are provided and we'll give you all the tools you need to make sure you walk away with some beautiful silver clay pieces you can be proud of. This workshop is full of new exciting processes for you and your students—you won't want to miss it! We know that teachers are busy people who want to do more than just show up for lessons every day. That's why we're offering these workshops—so you can spend less time preparing for your classes, and more time creating something beautiful. Craft workshop using a variety including glass cutting along with designing with dichroic glass elements to make sparkling glass jewellery. Fused Glass Workshop – Glitzy Glass Jewellery I want to share my 15+ years of experience with you. This fused glass workshop is held at my Derbyshire studio and gallery space in the middle of Wirksworth, near Matlock. About this fused glass workshop Everyone loves sparkle and this workshop is perfect for making wearable art for yourself or to give as give away as gifts. After a brief introduction to how to work safely with glass, I will teach you the technique of cutting and layering sheet glass to produce your own unique creations. The process of cutting is a skill that takes time to develop but wonderful designs can be built from basic shapes. No experience necessary, just an understanding that you might not be “perfect” straight away. I’m told I make it look easy, but I’ve been doing it, almost daily, for 15 years! Produce a range of unique jewellery using specialist glass called Dichroic Glass, a rainbow of colours and a myriad of decorative inclusions, you will design and make jewellery pieces including pendants, earrings, cufflinks and brooches. Your creations will need to be fired, cleaned and finished by Stevie so will be ready in around three weeks. The materials cost will enable you to make at least 3 (maybe 4) pieces in the time, maybe more depending on your chosen designs and how quickly you work. Come and join Janine at Stitching Kitchen for a weekend learning how to make a log cabin quilt. This workshop will take place over two full Saturdays. It is suitable for total novices, taking you through everything you need to know to build confidence in quilt-making. If you are a more experienced quilter, you will enjoy learning a new technique that has so many creative possiblities, and you can benefit from Janine’s years of experience to pick up tips and tricks for a professional, polished quilt. Log cabin quilting gets its name from the layout of the pieces - log-shaped strips built up around a central square, or ‘hearth’. It's a great quilt for getting through your scraps. Or, you can use precut 2 ½-inch strips, like Jelly Rolls, which make the process easier and just as enjoyable. Log cabin quilting is really versatile because the fabric choices, layouts and positioning can be used to make such a huge range of patterns. Your tutor Janine also holds monthly long-arm clinics at Stitching Kitchen that you'd be welcome to drop into if you'd like any further pointers, or would like to outsource the quilt finishing to her! What you will learn/achieve Skills in measuring, cutting and sewing this traditional block. How to create a huge range of patterns with your fabric choices, layouts and positioning. If you’re not yet comfortable with a rotary cutter and ruler, you can use precut 2 ½-inch strips, like Jelly Rolls, which make the process easier and just as enjoyable. The quilt size is flexible and can be adjusted based on your experience/speed. What's included Tuition: full instruction and support in a small class (maximum of 6). Written instructions that you can take away and refer back to at home. Use of all the tools you will need during the workshop. Use of the Pfaff sewing machines in Stitching Kitchen's fully equipped studio.  Tea and cake. What to bring Fabrics to make your log cabin blocks. We will send you a materials list, but just give us a call or drop in to the studio if you would like further advice, and we can also make suggestions about where to purchase quilting fabric. This is a great quilt for getting through your scraps, or sewing with a jelly roll! Stitching Kitchen has thread available to purchase. You won’t need to bring anything else and you can leave your sewing machine at home. Stitching Kitchen is fully equipped with Pfaff sewing machines and all the quilting tools and sewing kit for use during the workshop. Stitching Kitchen also stocks a full range of haberdashery, batting and quilting tools if you discover anything you would like to purchase to use at home.
